With less than three weeks to go until the 2025 MLB All-Star Game festivities take place in Atlanta, it's time to start thinking about who might try to steal the show during the Home Run Derby. With Ronald Acuña Jr. and now Cal Raleigh confirmed to take part in the long ball contest, that leaves six spots open—and we have some ideas.

A 2-1 loss to the Astros Thursday marks the third time the Phillies have been swept in the last month. Houston only needed five runs across three games to get the job done. Any momentum that was building through that Mets series has been squandered, and once again, this club is creating more questions than answers for themselves. This series has felt like daily déjà vu — lifeless offensive performances that tossed spectacular outings from starting pitching to the wayside. Advertisement First, you had a gem from Ranger Suarez, who allowed one run through 7.2 innings. Wednesday, we were spoiled with more dominance from Zack Wheeler, who also only allowed one run through 6 innings. Going three-for-three, the Phillies then wasted Cristopher Sanchez's outing. He went 6 innings, while allowing one run and striking out 11. A combined three earned runs from the starting pitching and no run support to show for it. Often mentioned are the ebbs and flows of baseball — but it's important to also acknowledge what the past few days have been — a rut. It took until the eighth inning to see a run cross the plate with some situational hitting. Bryson Stott worked a leadoff walk and made his way to third when Rafael Marchan singled. Brandon Marsh collected the lone RBI of the series with a sacrifice fly. Advertisement Stott was the only runner in scoring position the entire series. Next? Adding insult to injury. Orion Kerkering has been the most consistent bullpen arm the Phillies have had over the past six weeks. After fighting tooth and nail for that one run to tie the game, Kerkering gave up his first earned run since the first week of May.

NHL, NHLPA reach labor peace and sign four-year CBA with longer regular season coming
LOS ANGELES — The NHL has achieved labor peace in our time. The league and the NHLPA announced Friday morning that a memorandum of understanding has been signed on a four-year collective bargaining agreement beginning in the 2026-27 season, with ratification on both sides still needed before things are completely final. Both sides declined to confirm specific details at a press conference Friday morning, citing the need for ratification, but it's been widely reported the NHL will expand to an 84-game regular season, with the preseason being shortened in return. AP 'That's certainly one of the things that was a topic of discussion,' commissioner Gary Bettman said. Per The Athletic's Chris Johnston, the CBA also includes a reduction of max contracts to seven years when a player is re-signing and six years for free agents, the elimination of deferred salary and salary cap enforcement during the playoffs. Unlike past CBA negotiations, this one appears to have been relatively smooth sailing, with Bettman and NHLPA head Marty Walsh praising the way both sides worked together in a press conference Friday morning before the draft. 'We started the conversation in end of March, early April. As Gary framed it, very good meetings,' Walsh said. 'Didn't agree on everything, but no major blowouts in the room. We just talked about keeping it in front of us moving forward.' The exact timing for ratification was left unsaid, but the mere fact that a press conference with both sides was held Friday indicates that is not expected to be a stumbling block. Deputy commissioner Bill Daley repeated that this year will be an 'entertainment event' that includes players, and there will be an on-ice event at UBS in 2027; however, the exact format of either is not yet clear.
