Durban Metro Police call on public to donate dogs for K9 Unit Training
'We specifically require German Shepherds and Malinois breeds, preferably between the ages of 18 months to two years old. It is crucial that the dogs meet certain criteria to be considered for training within the police structure. However, if a dog does not meet the necessary standards, it will be returned to the owner.
'Your co-operation and contribution will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in assisting the efforts of preventing crime in the dedicated police force,' said spokesperson for Durban Metro Police, Colonel Boysie Zungu.

Chatsworth drug operations: One arrested and drugs seized by Durban Metro Police

Image: Durban Metro Police / Facebook The Durban Metro Police Service arrested a suspected supplier and confiscated drugs with a combined estimated street value of more than R53,000 in two operations in Chatsworth this week. The Metro Police said members of the Metro Police Drug Team and Trio Crimes Unit carried out an 'intelligence-driven operation' at an identified target's premises under an authorised search warrant. 'A primary drug supplier was arrested and taken to Chatsworth SAPS on charges of dealing and possession of Mandrax, crack cocaine, and dagga.' The operation resulted in the seizure of 58 pieces of crack cocaine, 110 Mandrax tablets, and 36 containers of dagga, with an estimated value of R13 100. Units involved included Counter Narcotics KZN, the Metro Drug Team, the Metro Trio Team, Chatsworth Metro Police (AO teams), and the Chatsworth Detective Tracing Team. Issuing a warning to those involved in the drug trade, the Durban Metro Police stated: 'Durban Metro Police will continue conducting intelligence-led operations with zero tolerance for narcotics. 'Our team, working together with the Chatsworth Detectives Tracing Team, proceeded to the location and recovered a bag containing: 164 bags of crystal meth; 140 pieces of Mandrax; 100 cones of cocaine; and 10.69 grams of Cat.' Cops and robbers shoot-out in Pinetown
FOUR house robbery suspects were shot and injured in a shoot-out with the police in Pinetown on Tuesday. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the suspects had just committed a house robbery when they were locked in a shoot-out with the police on Underwood Road in Pinetown on Tuesday afternoon. 'Police responded to a house robbery on Oxford Road at Paradise Valley in Pinetown, and as they approached the house which was being robbed, police identified a white VW Polo which was driving in the opposite direction and immediately attempted to stop the vehicle. Also read: Westville hospital rejects racism claims 'The driver of the vehicle ignored police's instructions and sped off. A high speed chase ensued and on Underwood Road, the suspects opened fire towards police officers. 'Police returned fire and a shoot-out ensued. After the shoot-out, the suspects were found to have sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital under police guard. Two firearms, a flat screen TV, jewellery and two high-end brand handbags and home appliances were found in the possession of the suspects. A manhunt is underway for one suspect who narrowly escaped arrest. The suspects will appear in court when they are fit to do so,' said Netshiunda. ‘Detective' cons Pinetown pensioners out of R500K in elaborate bank card scam
An elderly couple from Pinetown, KZN, is left shattered after losing R500 000 to a woman posing as a police detective in an elaborate scam. Donald Bristol (87) told the Highway Mail he received a call from a woman introducing herself as Detective Mudalay from the SAPS. She claimed his bank cards had been cloned and needed to visit him personally. 'I notified security at my residential complex to allow her access. She arrived at my flat, presented herself professionally and explained the alleged card cloning issue in detail,' said Bristol. The woman told him the case was being handled in co-ordination with the Pinetown SAPS and requested his bank debit and cheque cards, including Pins, as well as his cellphone, saying it was needed for the investigation. 'I complied with her request but never gave her my Pin. I have never used any form of online banking before,' he said. Over the following days, the scammer contacted Bristol on his wife's phone, instructing him not to speak to anyone as it could compromise the investigation. On May 9, she asked him to meet her at a bank in Josiah Gumede Road to receive new bank cards and collect his cellphone. When the couple arrived, the woman called again, insisting they meet her outside but was nowhere to be found. Inside the bank, staff checked Bristol's account and discovered he had been defrauded, with multiple unauthorised transactions at grocery shops, liquor outlets and designer clothing stores. When the couple reported the scam at Pinetown SAPS, they provided CCTV footage of the impersonator entering their residential complex. More than two months later, they say they have received no assistance. 'We do not know how this woman got my contact details and address. We do not even have family in the country; my family is overseas,' said Bristol. Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu confirmed a fraud case is under investigation. 'The investigating officer has obtained video footage and met the complainant to gather further information. Police are following leads,' said Naidu.
