India Today6 days ago
Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Thruxton 400 in India, priced at Rs 2.74 lakh (ex-showroom). Marking the return of one of Triumph's most celebrated monikers, the new Thruxton joins the 400cc modern classic line-up with a distinct caf racer identity and a sharper performance edge. A global roll-out is expected later this year.
advertisementWhile the Thruxton 400 shares its underpinnings with the Speed 400, it stands apart with revised styling, sportier ergonomics, and a slightly uprated power output. The motorcycle is powered by the TR-Series 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, tuned to produce 42bhp at 9,000rpm, a 2bhp increase over the Speed 400, while torque remains unchanged at 37.5Nm. The motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch.
True to its cafe racer roots, the Thruxton 400 features clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, a half fairing, and a single-seat setup with a removable rear cowl that conceals a hidden pillion seat. Other aesthetic highlights include a sculpted fuel tank with a new inset Triumph logo, a rectangular tail-light, blacked-out USD forks (instead of gold), and brushed aluminium detailing on the side panels.
The chassis setup has also been subtly tweaked for a more dynamic feel. Suspension travel is slightly increased to 140mm, the wheelbase has been shortened to 1376mm, and the seat height is now 795mm. The ground clearance drops to 158mm, while the overall kerb weight increases to 183kg, 4kg more than the Speed 400.
On the features front, the Thruxton 400 carries over key elements from its sibling, including a digi-analogue instrument cluster with gear position indicator, dual-channel ABS, and switchable traction control.
The Thruxton 400 is available in three colour schemes: red, yellow, and black and white, each featuring a contrast racing stripe that complements its retro-racer aesthetic.
Speaking about the launch, Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer, Triumph Motorcycles, said, "The Thruxton name is synonymous with an exhilarating ride, a focused riding position and the iconic cafe racer silhouette. The new Thruxton 400 delivers all that and more, representing exceptional value that will appeal to a younger audience who long to own a stylish motorcycle with the modern performance and premium finish of a Triumph. With its uprated engine and sportier ergonomics, the Thruxton 400 is an exciting addition to our Modern Classic range, building on the accessibility and confidence inspiring handling that has made the 400 range so popular."Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd, added, "The Triumph business in India has seen tremendous momentum over the past year — from expanding our network and experience stores to a growing community of passionate riders who are engaging deeply through regular rides and events. The response to the Modern Classic 400cc range has exceeded expectations, and the new Thruxton 400 is a worthy addition. It blends authentic cafe racer styling with exhilarating performance and exceptional build quality. With this launch, we continue to offer Indian riders not just motorcycles, but iconic machines that evoke emotion and foster community."Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine- EndsMust Watch

Mercedes says top-end car portfolio continues to drive growth in volatile mkt

Agencies Mercedes-Benz India Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday said its top-end model range continues to drive growth for the automaker amid a volatile business environment. In an interaction with PTI, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said that the overall domestic luxury car market growth is pegged at around 4-5 per cent year on year. He noted that demand is flattish as compared to last year for the industry. "Considering all the geopolitical developments happening around us, the growth may not be there as much as what we have seen in the previous years, but it is still there," Iyer stated. For Mercedes, the top end vehicle and core segments continue to grow while the entry level vertical has de-grown, he noted. "With eight launches in 2025, our top-end luxury vehicle strategy has been very successful, garnering immense customer response and elevating the desirability of Mercedes-Benz in the market," Iyer said."So yes, we are not seeing that double-digit kind of growth momentum that we saw in the previous year, but still, flattish to single-digit growth is there," he noted that while there are some headwinds, the industry is also witnessing some tailwinds, which augur well for the growth in the coming quarters. Iyer cited GDP growth projections and record GST collections this year as some of the positive factors."Obviously, macros are strong and they should not affect the fundamental position. But yeah, it's a volatile market, for sure," he added. The German Luxury carmaker on Tuesday launched AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe priced at Rs at 1.35 crore (ex-showroom, India).

MRF logs lower net on higher revenue in Q1

Chennai, Aug 12 (UNI) Automotive tyre major MRF Ltd on Tuesday said it closed the quarter ended 30th June 2025 with a higher revenue and lower net. The company said during the first quarter of FY26 it has logged a standalone operational revenue of Rs.7,560.28 crore (Q1FY25 Rs.7,077.84 crore) and a net profit of Rs.484.23 crore (Rs.562.55 crore). On a consolidated basis, for the period under review, the company's total income stood at Rs 7,802 crore (Rs. 7,280 crore). The consolidated net profit for the quarter ended 30th June, 2025 is Rs. 500 crore (Rs.571 crore). Despite the increase in total income, profits for the quarter ended 30th June, 2025, declined due to an increase in input costs, MRF said in a statement. According to the company, the first quarter of the financial year normally sees an uptick in demand for vehicles, and therefore sales to vehicle makers improve along with improvement in replacement demand. But April 2025 started with a tariff issue, which was followed by a war in May and then early monsoons. This led to subdued market sentiments. New vehicle sales across categories were negative or flat except for the farm segment, which was unaffected by any of the above disruptions. UNI VJ ARN
