President Ramkalawan Inaugurates Haemodialysis Unit at St Mary's Hospital, La Digue

Zawya06-05-2025

President Wavel Ramkalawan today presided over the official opening of the newly established Haemodialysis Unit at St Mary's Hospital on La Digue, marking a significant advancement in the Seychelles' national healthcare agenda.
The state-of-the-art facility, developed in partnership with AMSA Renal Health Care, now enables patients on La Digue to receive critical dialysis treatment locally, sparing them the need for frequent inter-island travel.
In his keynote address, President Ramkalawan underscored his administration's continued commitment to equitable healthcare delivery, stating:'Every citizen, regardless of where they live, has access to the quality healthcare services they need.' He described the unit as 'another important facility placed at the disposal of the La Digue community—one that not only saves lives but also restores dignity and eases the burden of patients and their families'
The project fulfils a pledge made by the President during his 2025 State of the Nation Address, where the establishment of dialysis services on La Digue was highlighted as a priority healthcare objective.
Among those attending the ceremony was local patient Bernada Jean, who delivered an emotional tribute, thanking the President, the Ministry of Health, AMSA Renal Health Care, and medical staff involved in the project. 'This unit brings us hope. It brings us relief. It gives us back precious time with our loved ones,' the patient stated.
The Ministry of Health has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the quality and sustainability of the new service through its ongoing partnership with AMSA Renal Health Care.
The opening of the Haemodialysis Unit represents a pivotal step toward healthcare equity across Seychelles' island communities, in alignment with the government's broader national development strategy.

McDonald's UAE to donate 100% of Sundae sales on June 12

All proceeds will be donated to the Red Crescent Medical Center, providing free healthcare services to those who need it most McDonald's UAE will mark its first-ever McHappy Day on Wednesday, June 12 with a nationwide initiative aiming to improve access to free healthcare for those in need across the UAE. For the full day, 100% of proceeds from all Sundae sales at McDonald's UAE restaurants, and through the McDonald's App, will be donated to the Red Crescent Medical Center. This initiative builds on McDonald's UAE's longstanding partnership with Emirates Red Crescent, now in its seventh year. As temperatures rise across the country, customers are invited to cool down and enjoy one of McDonald's signature menu items - the Sundae, available in Caramel, Strawberry and Hot Fudge flavors, while supporting a meaningful cause. The special day reflects McDonald's UAE's ongoing commitment to the local community, with every Sundae purchase helping to enhance the Red Crescent Medical Center's medical services. "McHappy Day is about coming together to create meaningful change," said Walid Fakih, CEO at McDonald's UAE. The Red Crescent Medical Center is the only healthcare facility in the UAE offering free treatments to individuals, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. McHappy Day builds on McDonald's UAE's year-round support for the Medical Center, which includes ongoing donation through the in-store kiosks and via the McDonald's App through Rewards Points. McDonald's UAE invites everyone to take part in McHappy Day on June 12 by visiting any McDonald's UAE restaurant, or order through the McDonald's App, to enjoy a Sundae and make a meaningful difference.

Terra Drone Arabia participates as technical partner in NUPCO's Drone Initiative for Medical Supply During Hajj Season 1446H

Terra Drone Arabia & Nupco Team assemble during the delivery test deployment Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Terra Drone Arabia, the local-arm of Terra Drone Corporation in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a leading provider of drone solutions, expressed its pride in participating as the technical partner and drone operator in a pioneering initiative launched by the National Unified Procurement Company (NUPCO), in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Health. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of medical supply delivery during the Hajj season of 1446H using drone technologies. This initiative marks a proactive step in utilizing modern technologies to support the healthcare sector. It addresses the logistical challenges posed by the massive crowds in the holy sites, particularly in Mina and Arafat, where traditional ground transport can take more than 1.5 hours. In contrast, drones can reduce delivery times to under 6 minutes, directly improving emergency medical response times. As the technical operator of the initiative, Terra Drone Arabia deployed DJI M350 RTK drones equipped with specially designed transport boxes to ensure the safe handling of medical supplies by maintaining the required temperature conditions. The drone operations were managed using the Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) system developed by Unifly, a group company of Terra Drone, ensuring both efficiency and safety. The UTM is used to enable real-time tracking of drone positions and resolve potential conflicts between drones and other airspace users, issuing alerts, and providing landing instructions. The company also ensured the highest standards of air safety were applied, leveraging integrated safety systems compliant with operational requirements in densely populated areas. Operations were conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and coordinated with several regulatory bodies, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, and the General Authority of Civil Aviation, helping to establish a safe and organized operational environment. Terra Drone Arabia reaffirmed its belief in the importance of leveraging modern technologies for community service and its satisfaction in contributing to such ambitious national initiatives. The company emphasized that its partnership with NUPCO in this project represents a true model of collaboration and integration between sectors to deliver effective and innovative solutions. The success of this project is expected to pave the way for broader adoption of drone technologies in the healthcare logistics sector within the Kingdom and open new opportunities for applying this technology across various vital sectors, in line with the objectives of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and digital transformation goals. About Terra Drone Arabia: Terra Drone Arabia aims to be the premier provider of drone and geospatial solutions in the Middle East and Africa. With a mission to empower businesses through advanced technologies, Terra Drone Arabia offers a wide range of services, including land surveying, bathymetry, and data processing, among others.
