Is Strong Demand for Pickups the Secret to Ford's Q2 Delivery Growth?
General Motors U.S. deliveries reached 746,588 units and 1.4 million units in the second quarter and first half of 2025, marking an increase of 7% and 12%, respectively. In the second quarter, EV sales rose 111% year over year to 46,280 units, while it rose 104% in the first half to 78,167 units. General Motors achieved record year-to-date crossover sales, driven by the launch of new or updated models, such as the Chevrolet Trax, Traverse and Equinox, the GMC Acadia and Terrain and the Buick Envista and Encore GX. In the second quarter of 2025, Stellantis sold 309,976 vehicles in the United States, down 10% year over year. The deliveries declined despite resilient demand for Jeep SUVs and Ram trucks. This continues the brand's downward sales trend over the past year. In 2024, Stellantis saw a 15% drop in annual sales and reported a 12% decline in first-quarter sales compared to the same period in 2024.
Ford has outperformed the Zacks Automotive-Domestic industry year to date. F shares have gained 18.9% against the industry's decline of 23.4%.

From a valuation perspective, Ford appears undervalued. Going by its price/sales ratio, the company is trading at a forward sales multiple of 0.29, lower than its industry's 2.48.

Group14 lands $463M from SK, Porsche, and others to make silicon anodes for EVs
Battery materials startup Group14 announced Wednesday it has closed a $463 million funding round to expand its manufacturing footprint, a sign that investors remain confident in the future of electric vehicles. The startup manufactures silicon anode materials, which significantly boost the storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries. Group14 currently operates three factories, two in the U.S. and one in South Korea. Despite headlines about softening demand growth for electric vehicles, the global market for lithium-ion batteries remains strong. Over the next decade, its expected to grow more than 15% annually, quintupling in size, according to Precedence Research. And automakers and investors are still in pursuit of companies working on technology that will make EVs more efficient and affordable. The round was led by battery manufacturer SK with participation from ATL, Lightrock, Microsoft, Porsche, and OMERS. Alongside the round, Group14 also announced it had 'acquired full ownership' of a joint venture with SK in South Korea, which includes its BAM 3 factory. SK had owned 75% of the JV. When asked whether the value of the JV transaction was included in the Series D total, Group14 spokesperson Kristen Caron said the company was 'not disclosing any additional details about the round.' Silicon has long been targeted as a potential replacement for graphite, today's go-to anode material, because it can hold up to 10 times more electrons. But with every charge and discharge, pure silicon anodes have a tendency to crumble as the material expands and contracts, something that graphite is more resistant to. Startups like Group14 and its competitor Sila have accommodated silicon's propensity to swell by creating structures that keep silicon in place without sacrificing the anode's overall integrity. Group14's material is a scaffold with internal voids that hold the silicon, giving it room to expand. The material itself can be blended with graphite or replace it entirely. Many companies still opt for the latter because of graphite's inherent stability. But the more silicon used, the more energy a single cell can store. Group14 says its material can improve energy density by up to 50% and cut fast-charging times below 10 minutes. Blue Oval models could gain head-scratching new feature following patent. Ford vehicles could include a new feature that's straight out of Pokémon. New vehicle technology has advanced to the point where vehicles can crab walk, turn like tanks and more. Ford's recent patent hints at a capability for its vehicles that has yet to appear on roads — or trails. Is this new feature coming to future Blue Oval vehicles? Does it have any practical real-world applications, or will it just add a wow factor to some models? Here's what to know. Ford patents dig mode feature for future vehicles Ford Motor Company's subsidiary Ford Global Technologies LLC was granted a patent for "vehicle operation in one-wheel dig mode." That's right, some Ford vehicles could be able to dig soon, like the Pokémon move that allows users to burrow into the ground. The Blue Oval produces several capable off-road models including the Bronco Sport and Bronco. Ford also produces special off-road trims for some of its most capable vehicles. These trims often feature all-terrain tires, suspension upgrades, skid plates and more. The brand also makes popular best-selling work trucks like the Ford F-150. These vehicles have their fair share of interesting capabilities, but a dig mode would be novel even for the most niche models. Based on Ford's new tech patent, the feature would allow drivers to "spin one of the wheels of the vehicle to dig a hole in the ground below the spinning wheel" while the other wheels remain stationary. According to the patent "the hole may be used in the recovery of another vehicle that is stuck during recreational off-roading." Other uses for the feature include "recreational camping" and making holes at job sites. Ford is no stranger to unique features and designs The Blue Oval is no slouch when it comes to inventing and implementing bold new features. From a design perspective, the Ford Maverick is potentially one of its most daring endeavors in recent years. The Maverick is the current smallest and most affordable pickup truck on the American market. It also happens to be a standard hybrid pickup. The Ford Maverick's innovation doesn't stop at its size or powertrain. Ford designed the Maverick truck bed to be easily customizable so owners could create their own bed setups to maximize space, since the Maverick is a small truck. In terms of unique capabilities, the Ford F-150 Lightning is another notable mention. Some F-150 Lightning models include Home Backup Power. This feature essentially turns the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck into a backup generator for your home. The F-150 Lighting also has exportable power to power tools on worksites and accessories through its frunk (front trunk) and truck bed. The brave new world of automotive features Today, many final configuration cars, trucks and SUVs have astounding capabilities. From self-parking and semi-autonomous driving to augmented reality head-up displays and native voice assistants, vehicle tech has made huge strides in the last decade. Over-the-air updates now allow automotive brands to patch software bugs and roll out new features for vehicles through the internet. Cadillac's desert-racing concept car previews the future of luxury SUVs
Boasting a lifted ride, 24-inch wheels and both autonomous and performance-driving modes, the Cadillac Elevated Velocity concept car reveals designs and features that will carry the brand's V-series vehicles into the future. With electric all-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension, the sleek SUV has gull-wing doors, a modern, roomy interior, 2+2 seating and an augmented-reality head-up display ― combining features Cadillac offers now and is evaluating for tomorrow. The concept also previews innovative ideas for desert racing, including repelling sand from its sleek four-door body and peering through dust storms. The Elevated Velocity debuted at the Quail, a luxury vehicle event in Carmel, California, on Aug. 15. The Quail is part of a weekend of events for luxury, racing and classic vehicles on and near the Monterey Peninsula. An earlier Cadillac concept called Opulent Velocity debuted at the Quail last year. What's cool about the Cadillac Elevated Velocity? The look of tomorrow's Cadillacs Cadillac expects the market for high-performance electric luxury SUVs to grow. The Elevated Velocity's profile ― long hood, spacious interior, short rear overhang, fastback rear end ― is consistent with the current Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq. 'Concepts are the compass for us,' GM design chief Brian Nesbitt said during a briefing on the Elevated Velocity. Other exterior touches include Cadillac's signature vertical lighting, illuminated front and rear badges, Vapor Blue exterior paint and blue-tinted windows. Full-width rear lights create a three-dimensional effect Cadillac calls a 'light tunnel.' Infrared light and 'dust-phobic vibration' The Elevated Velocity has modes for interior comfort and different kinds of travel, from hands-free relaxation to desert racing. A separate set of driving modes — in addition to that enhanced vision for sandstorms and that "elements defy" mode that generates a 'dust-phobic' vibration, like a horse shaking itself clean — include: Interior luxury The interior has four pedestal bucket seats. A floating center console extends from the dash to rear seats. The yoke-style steering wheel incorporates a hub-mounted display screen that's intended to be most useful when the driver seat reclines and the steering wheel retracts. The HUD delivers information to the driver when the car is in hands-on mode. Interior colors and materials include: Cadillac doesn't plan to build the Elevated Velocity, but its appearance and features will influence the brand's upcoming performance models.
