Teddy Bridgewater Suspended From HS Coaching Gig
Bridgewater's foray into coaching went swimmingly, as he led Miami Northwestern to a 3A state title. However, now we're learning his role came with some drawbacks too.

According to Bridgewater himself, he was apparently suspended by Miami Northwestern High School after he reportedly paid for his athletes' Uber rides along with other 'impermissible benefits.' Those benefits included physical therapy, recovery help, pregame meals, field paint, and more.
While this story may have flown under the radar, Bridgewater made it all very public by making a Facebook post about the whole scenario.
'The suspension came from MNW and it's impossible to suspend someone who doesn't work for you. So if [I'm] suspended from MNW [I'm] free to go to another school of my choice but [I'm] NOT GOING ANYWHERE. And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.''
Teddy Bridgewater
Bridgewater was apparently working on a volunteer basis, not as an actual employee of the school. That's where some of the confusion came in.
Either way, as he stated, Bridgewater won't be backing down. If anything, he seems to be even further committed to helping MNW, even if it's not from their own sideline.

Bridgewater previously announced his retirement from the NFL after the 2023 season, but later returned in 2024 for the Detroit Lions. He remains unsigned this offseason, and it remains to be seen whether the former first-round pick is officially done with the NFL or not. Still just 32 years old, he presumably would still be able to land a roster spot with ease.

Chargers QB Trey Lance leads list of Hall of Fame Game's winners and losers
NFL football is back. Sort of. Sort of NFL football. Regardless, the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game was the first time any of the league's teams had met between the lines since Super Bowl 59 – and, sadly, Thursday night's contest was somehow exponentially less suspenseful than the Philadelphia Eagles' one-night dismantling of the Kansas City Chiefs' dynasty in February. The Los Angeles Chargers' 34-7 shellacking of the Detroit Lions in Canton, Ohio, didn't feature many players likely to contribute much to those teams this season. But hey, let's celebrate the sorta kinda return of NFL football anyway with a few of the winners and losers now that the league's preseason is officially underway: WINNERS Trey Lance The high point of his NFL career was being the No. 3 overall pick of the 2021 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, Lance has been held back by injury, inexperience and lack of opportunity – Brock Purdy taking advantage of his absence with the Niners before Lance sat behind Dak Prescott for two years with the Dallas Cowboys. Balling out in a preseason game won't erase years of frustration for Lance, but he flashed the talent commensurate with a man taken so high in the draft – ripping the ball downfield, making good decisions and showing off his mobility. And, yes, he was playing against fellow backups, but the poise, confidence and joy was unmistakable as Lance finished 13-for-20 for 120 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Thursday's performance won't necessarily vault him past Taylor Heinicke to be Justin Herbert's primary backup for the Bolts. But Lance is playing for a coach, Jim Harbaugh, who's a former quarterback with a reputation for maximizing his passers. It was just 13 years ago that Harbaugh rolled with little-known dual-threat QB Colin Kaepernick over former No. 1 pick Alex Smith, a decision that propelled the 49ers all the way to Super Bowl 47. Just sayin'. Nikko Reed The undrafted Chargers rookie corner carried his training camp momentum over into his professional debut, picking off a pass and returning it 60 yards to set up LA's second first-quarter touchdown. And make no mistake, there are jobs and reps to be won in this secondary. Pro Football Hall of Fame Earlier on Thursday, the HOF announced that KeyBank will sponsor a new event center, its construction scheduled to begin later this fall. The Hall hopes the venue, which will have nearly 20,000 square feet of space, will be open in time for the induction of the 2027 class of Hall of Famers. Heat and rain weather have been known to regularly disrupt enshrinement ceremonies – and the Hall of Fame Game, too – in recent years. Pro Football Hall of Fame … Game A game that's been plagued and even canceled by inclement weather, poor field conditions, COVID-19 and even the 2011 lockout in recent years was played without a hitch. For a change. Nyheim Miller-Hines He last played in the NFL in 2022, suffering a torn ACL during a jet ski accident in the summer of 2023. Now trying to make the Chargers' roster, Miller-Hines' versatility fueled a positive first step Thursday. He had 79 all-purpose yards on 11 touches, getting eight carries and catching a pass while returning one punt and one kickoff. Grant Stuard A fifth-year reserve linebacker for the Lions, he was a bright spot for Detroit's defense, making four tackles − including a sack and another for a loss. With Malcolm Rodriguez still recovering from a torn ACL, Stuard could create an opportunity to get on the field this season when Detroit loads the box. LOSERS Grant Stuard Lions coach Dan Campbell allowed Stuard to return the night's opening kickoff, which he advanced 26 yards … before fumbling. The Chargers were in the end zone five plays later. There's a reason linebackers don't return kickoffs, Coach ... though, to Stuard's credit he brought the next one back 36 yards. Jared Goff's backups Neither Kyle Allen, who started behind center for Detroit, nor Hendon Hooker distinguished themselves while trying to earn the nod to back up Goff, the Lions' QB1, this year. Heading into his seventh season, Allen's experience should serve him well. And yet he served up a pair of bad interceptions instead − and both were poor decisions, not the functions of playing with bottom-of-the-roster players. And Hooker, a third-round pick two years ago who effectively took a medical redshirt as a rookie, still needs to show he's ready for a bigger role. He was also picked off, though his INT can be fairly attributed to rookie WR Dominic Lovett, who had the ball taken away from him downfield. Detroit Lions The HOF Game typically pits two teams sending at least one former star into the Hall, and longtime Bolts TE Antonio Gates will be enshrined Saturday as will San Diego native Eric Allen. But not only did no Lions go in this year, two players who victimized them for years – former Green Bay Packers WR Sterling Sharpe and former Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen – will be honored. Sorry, Lions fans, you'll have to take pride in the fact Gates hails from Motown. . Trey Lance tosses 2 touchdown passes, leading the Chargers over the Lions 34-7 in Hall of Fame game
Associated Press CANTON, Ohio (AP) — On his third team in his fifth season, Trey Lance played like a No. 3 overall pick. Lance threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns, and the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Detroit Lions 34-7 in the Hall of Fame game that kicked off the NFL's preseason Thursday night. The game opened with a moment of silence for the four people killed earlier this week by a shooter who was targeting league headquarters in New York. The gunman also wounded a league employee in the shooting Monday night. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told NBC he visited the employee for an hour on Wednesday and said the man was improving. There was increased security around Tom Benson Stadium and the Pro Football Hall of Fame village. Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Penei Sewell and the rest of Detroit's star-studded offense didn't see any action against Los Angeles. Coach Dan Campbell's Lions, who went one-and-done in the playoffs last season after winning a franchise-record 15 games, also sat their top two draft picks. Justin Herbert was among many of the Chargers starters rested by coach Jim Harbaugh, who led the team to a six-win turnaround and a playoff berth in his first season. Rookie running back Omarion Hampton, a first-round pick, carried twice for 9 yards. The Chargers recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff at the Lions 28 and converted the short field into a 7-0 lead. Lance made a perfect touch pass on fourth-and-2 to Will Dissly, who caught a 5-yard touchdown over a defender's outstretched hand. After undrafted rookie cornerback Nikko Reed stepped in front of Kyle Allen's sideline pass and returned it 60 yards to the Lions 6, Kimani Vidal ran in from the 2 to make it 14-0. Allen threw another pick on the next possession to Tony Jefferson after driving the Lions to the Chargers 23. Craig Reynolds' 3-yard TD run cut Detroit's deficit in half. But Lance fired a 19-yard pass to Tucker Fisk to the Lions 19 and connected with KeAndre Lambert-Smith on a 15-yard TD pass for a 21-7 halftime lead. Lance has started just five games in four NFL seasons after playing in only 19 games at North Dakota State. He spent just two seasons with the 49ers, who selected Brock Purdy with the last pick the same year they traded three first-round picks and a third-rounder to move up to get Lance. After two years with Dallas, Lance joined the Chargers to compete with veteran Taylor Heinicke for the backup job. He completed 13 of 20 passes before giving way to rookie DJ Uiagalelei. Allen and Hendon Hooker are battling for the Lions' backup job behind Goff. Allen was 9 of 14 with two picks. Hooker, a third-round pick in 2023, has thrown nine passes in his first two seasons. Detroit's sloppy special teams turned it over again in the third quarter. Jakobie Keeney-James dropped a punt inside the 10 and the Chargers recovered at the 5. But Los Angeles had to settle for Cameron Dicker's 23-yard field goal. The Chargers capped the scoring on Vidal's 2-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter. Hutchinson's return Lions star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson told NBC in the second half he can't wait for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Hutchinson had 7 1/2 sacks in five games last season before he went down with a leg injury. Before the game, Hutchinson spent time signing autographs for Lions fans who made the trip. Preseason rust Dicker, who was 39 of 42 on field goals last year and 9 of 11 from 50 yards or beyond, hit the left upright on a 50-yard try. He made his next two field goals. Gold jackets Cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen, tight end Antonio Gates and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Up next Chargers: Host the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 10. Lions: Visit the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 8. ___ AP NFL: recommended Item 1 of 3

Bryson DeChambeau named chair of President's Council on Sports Fitness & Nutrition
In addition to two-time U.S. Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau has a new title: chair of the President's Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition. DeChambeau was at the White House Wednesday, standing alongside WWE wrestler Triple H, NFL great Lawrence Taylor and other athletes to help relaunch the Presidential Fitness Test as President Donald Trump signed an executive order to expand the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. DeChambeau said he has a new mission beyond trying to break 50 on his YouTube channel. "We believe we can change the fabric of our communities and kids' livelihoods for the future generations that are to come,' DeChambeau said during the announcement. 'I can't thank you enough and looking forward to making massive changes in kids' lives and America's future." 🚨🏋🏻♂️🗣️ #NEW: Bryson DeChambeau has joined the Presidential Council on Sports, Physical Activity, and Nutrition. Speaking from The White House, DeChambeau says they have the opportunity to change kids lives. @BrysonLegion DeChambeau also did an interview on Fox News Channel's Special Report with Bret Baier. Asked why he was taking on this role, he said, 'Well, I think, look, I grew up in an era in my public education side of the coin where we had a fitness test. In reading up about it, since 1956, President Eisenhower established this and it has changed in form numerous times. And, you know, for me, all I want to do is inspire the next generation of young individuals that have passion around sport, health, nutrition, and fitness. And from my standpoint, re-establishing the President's Sports Council as well as the fitness test is a huge initiative for America and its health and fitness all across the board. 'So, we couldn't be more excited. I've got a great team behind me. We're establishing more council members as time is going on. And we're going to be excited to showcase what we have for the American public here soon.' DeChambeau famously re-made his body, consuming more than 6,000 calories per day and gaining around 40 pounds in an effort to chase speed and become the longest driver on the PGA Tour. He earned the nickname 'the Incredible Bulk.' He has since revealed that he regretted that decision due to some negative health impacts and has lost much of the weight. "I want to get kids excited about pushing themselves," DeChambeau said. The full interview with Bret Baier can be viewed here.
