Former Jaguars' offensive lineman retiring from NFL
Former Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive lineman Brandon Scherff is retiring.
According to Ian Rapoport, Scherff acknowledged recently during his induction into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame that he was retired. Scherff let teams know about this decision back in the spring.
Scherff spent his final three NFL seasons playing for the Jaguars and lining up at right guard, where he was a steady presence.
Scherff started all 51 regular-season games for the Jaguars over that three-year span. He didn't surrender a sack in 2024, according to PFF's metrics, and he was fourth among all guards in pass-blocking efficiency.
Scherff was a free agent this past offseason. New Jaguars' GM James Gladstone would sign Patrick Mekari and Chuma Edoga as options to fill the void at right guard.
Before joining the Jaguars, Scherff spent seven seasons with Washington. The former fifth overall pick made 140 starts in his 10-year NFL career. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and a one-time All-Pro.
'It's been something I could never dream of,' says Scherff, via the Iowa Hawkeyes team site. 'Sometimes I would tell my wife that she has to pinch me, because I'm playing a kid's game, and being able to do it as a job is pretty amazing. Now, having kids and being able to see them after games is absolutely wonderful. So I would say it's a dream come true. And I will be forever grateful to have had that chance.'

The NFL will continue to stencil social justice slogans in end zones for the sixth straight season, the Associated Press reported Thursday, carrying on a program that began in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests against police brutality. From 2021 to 2024, the NFL featured 'End Racism' in one of the end zones during the Super Bowl, but in 2025, the league decided that Super Bowl LIX would feature 'Choose Love' alongside 'It Takes All of Us' instead. That decision faced criticism in a moment when diversity initiatives were under attack, including by the recently inaugurated President Donald Trump, who was in attendance at the Super Bowl. But NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told The Athletic in February that the decision to swap 'End Racism' for 'Choose Love' was in response to tragedies in the months leading up to the game, including a terrorist attack in New Orleans, the wildfires in the Los Angeles area and a plane crash near Washington, D.C.
