Slot's new-look Liverpool under the spotlight in Community Shield
Despite storming to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title last season with four games to spare, the Reds have splashed out, spending nearly £300 million (RM1.7 billion) in the transfer market.
New forwards Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, plus full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong could get their first chance to impress the Liverpool fans at Wembley.
The traditional curtain-raiser to the English football season sees the winners of the previous season's Premier League and FA Cup face off.
"Normally you have to play numerous games before you can win something," Slot said at his pre-match press conference.
"Now we have a chance to win something in the beginning of the season. Unfortunately, we face a very good Crystal Palace that have been very difficult to win against for us.
"They showed in the last (FA Cup) final — and even in the semi-final, by the way, as well — how difficult it is to win a one-off game against them."
Palace are appearing in the fixture for the first time after lifting their maiden major trophy by shocking Manchester City 1-0 in May to win the FA Cup.
The Eagles' joy has been slightly soured since as they were thrown out of the Europa League and demoted into the Conference League — the third tier of European competition — over a breach of multi-club ownership rules.
US businessman John Textor owned a stake in Palace and is the majority owner of French club Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League.
Despite Textor since selling his shares to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, UEFA deemed Palace failed to meet the deadline to avoid a breach.
Under UEFA multi-club ownership rules, Lyon have been allowed to keep their place in the second-tier competition of European football as they finished higher in Ligue 1 (6th) than Palace (12th) in the Premier League last season.
Palace, however, have appealed to the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport.
By contrast to Liverpool's transfer bonanza, Palace have spent just £2 million on Croatian left-back Borna Sosa and a new reserve goalkeeper in Walter Benitez.
But the south London club have so far managed to keep hold of all of their prized assets despite interest from English and European giants.
Liverpool themselves are keen on Palace captain Marc Guehi, while Eberechi Eze has been linked with a move to Arsenal.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed both players will start at Wembley and believes his side can aim much higher up the table this season after a slow start last year cost them a top-half finish.
"We've started on a completely different level, with a different mindset and different standard we set last year, and this is why we can look forward to the season in a very positive way," said Glasner.
Tributes will be paid before the match to Diogo Jota, the Liverpool forward who died in a car crash last month at the age of 28.
A "Forever 20" emblem, referencing Jota's now-retired shirt number, will be printed on Liverpool's shirts this season.
"Tragedy impacted us but it impacted far more his wife, children and parents," added Slot.

JDT legend Farizal retires, honoured by teammates and fans
KUALA LUMPUR: Former national goalkeeper Farizal Marlias has announced his retirement from football after a career spanning almost two decades. The 39-year-old began his career with the now-defunct Shahzan Muda in 2006 before playing for Perlis, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Selangor and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT). Farizal said he was deeply grateful to his family, teammates, coaches, support staff, Harimau Malaya fans, and JDT — the club he has called home since 2015. "Football has shaped me into who I am today. It taught me discipline, sacrifice, fighting spirit, and the value of unity," Farizal said in a post on Instagram on Saturday. He paid special tribute to JDT owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, crediting his leadership and vision for moulding not just the team's success but also his growth as an athlete and individual. During his decade with the Southern Tigers, Farizal made over 250 appearances, winning nine consecutive Super League titles, multiple Malaysia Cup and FA Cup crowns, and lifting the AFC Cup in 2015. He was also a key figure for the national team, earning more than 60 caps since his debut in 2009, including appearances at the AFF Cup. His farewell post was met with an outpouring of love and respect from across the football community. Safawi Rasid and Wan Zack Haikal both called him a "legend." Wan Zack added: "Thank you for all the memories. Let's get our license to teach others." Former JDT teammate Fernando Forestieri said: "Legend, my best wishes for the future, good luck papi." Son savours warm reception during MLS debut for LAFC in Illinois
LONDON: Son Heung-min said he had never experienced such a welcoming atmosphere at an away game after making his Major League Soccer debut for Los Angeles FC against Chicago Fire, where he was greeted by a packed crowd at SeatGeek Stadium in Illinois. Son joined LAFC on a record-breaking MLS transfer on Wednesday after a 10-year spell at Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. At Tottenham, he bagged 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 appearances and led them to their first trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League title in May. The 33-year-old South Korea skipper made a lively debut in black and gold colours late on Saturday, drawing a penalty to rescue a 2-2 draw with Chicago. "This was an exciting time for a whole week joining LAFC, it was huge," Son told reporters. "There was only one thing I wanted to do and today, being on the pitch, I think it was fantastic. "With the result it's a little bit disappointing, because I think we should have gotten three points here, but generally I think I'm very, very happy and excited. "I really enjoyed it. You never had this coming from away games. I used to play in the Premier League. When I played at away grounds they were always booing me and always booing the players. But it was nice to see people were celebrating, people were enjoying the football." Son's move is expected to resonate with Los Angeles' sizeable Korean community. The team's stadium is just south of Koreatown. He follows in the footsteps of other international stars who have joined LAFC, including Carlos Vela, Giorgio Chiellini, Olivier Giroud as well as former Tottenham teammates Gareth Bale and Hugo Lloris. "I want to do well for MLS because I came here to make this league big," Son said. LAFC are fifth in the Western Conference and next visit New England Revolution on August 16.--REUTERS
