Kaizer Chiefs reignite pursuit as Sundowns prepare for exit
Kaizer Chiefs are set to make headlines once again as they revive their interest in a familiar target, Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro, with fresh optimism that a deal could finally materialise.
After missing out on him two seasons ago, the Soweto giants are now carefully monitoring Ighodaro's situation at Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs had initially tried to land the striker when he was on loan at Chippa United, but their efforts fell short as Sundowns opted to loan him to SuperSport United instead.
This time, however, the cards appear to be stacked differently.
'Yes, it's true. Chiefs are believed to have enquired about Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro,' a source close to the negotiations confirmed. 'You know the thing is the same people who scouted him from Nigeria for Sundowns are the same who have enquired about him for Chiefs. Actually it's not the first time they have enquired about him. They tried before when he was on loan at Chippa United but Sundowns sent him on loan at SuperSport United. But now they are apparently looking at the possibility of Sundowns letting him go and they can pounce on him.'
Having spent the recent season on loan at AmaZulu FC and scoring six goals, Ighodaro may now be deemed surplus to requirements at Sundowns, opening the door for Chiefs to finally make their move.
Kaizer Chiefs are not only keeping tabs on Ighodaro, they are actively scouting for reinforcements up front. With management keen to secure a striker before the pre-season training camp kicks off in late June or early July.
'Chiefs have made it clear that they need a striker before they start their pre-season training camp.'
Alongside Ighodaro, Amakhosi are also eyeing a number of other attacking options to bolster their squad. These include:
Yanela Mbuthuma, the promising talent from Richards Bay.
Fiston Mayele, currently making waves at Pyramids FC.
Thapelo Matlhoko, the rising star from Kruger United.
Michael Olunga, Kenya's national team captain, known for his lethal finishing.
Will Ighodaro fit in at Kaizer Chiefs?

NEW: Kaizer Chiefs back targeting star Bafana Bafana winger!
Kaizer Chiefs are determined to boost their attack ahead of next season, and with international quality stars. Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has made it his personal mission to go out and get the top attackers he needs. One of the things Chiefs have failed to get in the past seasons are goals. Nabi had been lamenting the lack of final product in his squad throughout his debut season at the club. It is then no surprise to see him linked with players Fiston Mayele, who finished top scorer in the CAF Champions League. He is also a DRC international and a winner of that competition with FC Pyramids. It has also been said that Nabi went and convinced another long-term target in Feisal Salum to join. The player has a very good record scoring goals and also making assists in Tanzania. The player Nabi coached both players while at Yanga SC, and is hoping to use his positive relationship to lure both. Now that isn't expected to be all for Chiefs. Rumours out of Tunisia claim they've reignited their interest in Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana. Tunisian publication Nessma Sport claim that Chiefs have shown interest in signing Mokwana from Esperance. They say that the club are awaiting a decision from from the club hierarchy before deciding on his future. With the blood and gold set to head off to the FIFA Club World Cup, any decision is expected to be taken after. Playing in the tournament in the USA would've clearly been part if the pull for the winger. It is no secret that Chiefs were interested in signing Mokwana last season, and had a bid turned down. The player recently spoke out about a potential move to Amakhosi in future, leaving the door wide open. Chiefs fans, would signing Mokwana be a huge statement of intent from the club? PSL transfer buzz: Long-term target ‘eager to join Kaizer Chiefs'!
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi travelled to Tanzania in a bid to lure long-term target Fesial Salum, a meeting that is said to have gone swimmingly for the former Young Africans manager. 'Nabi reportedly held a crucial meeting with Feisal Salum during his visit. This meeting confirms Nabi's continued keen interest in the dynamic midfielder, a player he has long admired,' a source said. 'Previous attempts to secure Salum's services hit a snag due to a significant disparity in valuation between the clubs involved. However, the recent meeting appears to have breathed new life into the potential transfer. ' 'Crucially, sources close to the player confirm he is highly receptive to the project and is eager to join Kaizer Chiefs next season.'. According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs are hoping to sign Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro in the second time of asking. 'Yes, it's true. Chiefs are believed to have enquired about Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro,' a SoccerLaduma source revealed 'You know the thing is the same people who scouted him from Nigeria for Sundowns are the same who have enquired about him for Kaizer Chiefs.' 'Actually it's not the first time they have enquired about him. They tried before when he was on loan at Chippa United but Sundowns sent him on loan at SuperSport United. Rulani Mokwena linked with Pyramids FC job after Krunoslav Jurcic exit rumours
Mokwena set for Pyramids job? Former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena's name has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Croatian Krunoslav Jurcic at newly crowned African champions Pyramids FC. Photo: BackpagePix According to reports, Jurcic now looks like he's on his way out, and the next man in could be Mokwena, who was recently fired by Morocco's Wydad Casablanca after an underwhelming season. The Egyptian club made history this past weekend when they became the latest team to add their name to the list of CAF Champions League winners when they beat Sundowns in Cairo. A report in The Egyptian Telegraph suggests that club bosses at the newly crowned African champions have been impressed with what Mokwena has been able to achieve at just 38 years old, and are working behind the scenes to ensure that his next port of call is in Cairo. Should Mokwena move to Egypt, it could leave his mentor Pitso Mosimane as the favourite for the Pirates job. A report in Soccer Laduma earlier this week suggested the name of Marco Rose, formerly of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. However, due to the significant amount of money the club would need to lure the German to South Africa, it's unlikely we will be seeing him in the PSL. Mandla Ncikazi, Riveiro's number two at Pirates, was put in charge of the team on an interim basis after the Spaniard's departure. There have been calls for Ncikazi, who has intimate knowledge of the current squad, to be given the job on a full-time basis. IOL Sport
