Arsenal handed Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman transfer warning ahead of Mikel Arteta decision

Mikel Arteta has two Hale End gems at his disposal this season in Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman, with Rio Ferdinand lauding both teenagers as prodigious talents
Rio Ferdinand has warned Mikel Arteta to play Arsenal wonderkids Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman or risk losing them. Among the plethora of forward talents the club's Hale End academy has produced recently, Nwaneri and Dowman are the two most impressive youngsters.

Nwaneri, who aged 15 became the youngest player in Premier League history back in 2022, enjoyed a breakout season last term for the Gunners. The 18-year-old scored nine times in all competitions despite playing just 1,378 minutes of football, including two goals in the Champions League and one against Manchester City.

A section of Arsenal fans were even left disgruntled with manager Arteta, believing the Englishman deserved more game time, especially when captain Martin Odegaard was injured at the start of the campaign.

Now, another prodigious Hale Ender - 15-year-old Dowman - has emerged onto the scene boasting arguably even greater potential. Dowman, who was not allowed to be called up last season due to his age, lit up Arsenal's pre-season tour of Asia despite limited minutes last month, becoming one of the most-talked about talents in the country.
Manchester United legend Ferdinand has been a vocal supporter of Dowman and Nwaneri in recent weeks, claiming the teenagers are ready to make a serious impact this season. And he believes their ability warrants game time, suggesting they could leave if Arteta doesn't allow them to flourish.
He said on Rio Ferdinand Presents: 'Ethan Nwaneri, I think he's a ridiculous talent. The only thing I'm worried about is that these two boys play in the same position as Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka. The problem Arsenal have is that if these two young boys don't get enough minutes, they could start getting itchy feet.

'Maybe people around them start getting into their head and patience wears thin - you risk losing them. I think they're ready to be dipped in a lot more than we saw last season, especially Nwaneri because he's had that year of adaptation to the first team.
'I think he's got great talent but Dowman excites me on another level. This kid is different.' Ferdinand went on to say he is the best English teenager since his own former team-mate Wayne Rooney.

He continued: 'Dowman's more subtle, he's more tekky, he's going to have people on ice skates. He gets you off your feet.'
Dowman, who still hasn't finished his GCSEs, got his first taste of training with the senior squad at just 14. Despite Arteta's tendency to protect youngsters from the spotlight, the Spaniard saw enough potential to include him in the winter trip to Dubai, suggesting he is open to providing opportunities at the right time.
Dowman is unable to sign a professional contract until he's 17 in December 2026. There is no doubt that there will be a clamour from other top clubs to poach him, having caught the eye by dominating youth team games for England and Arsenal in the No. 10 position, which has earned him comparisons to Brazilian legend Kaka.
Nwaneri, meanwhile, recently signed a five-year contract with his boyhood club. That was despite some concern over the youngster entering the last 12 months of his contract and reports of interest from Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.

Revealed: The real reason why Alexander Isak has moved out of his £7,000-per-month luxury Newcastle home as striker pushes for Liverpool move

Wantaway Newcastle star Alexander Isak has moved out of a luxury £7,000-per-month home, but Daily Mail Sport understands the move is unconnected to his desire to join Liverpool. Isak has lived in the four-bed property in Darras Hall, Northumberland, since moving to Newcastle in a £63million transfer from Real Sociedad in 2022. The Swedish forward had been renting the home – which has an open plan kitchen, lounge and entertainment room – on a 12-month basis with a renewal due this summer. While the property was placed on the market last month at a time when Isak has pushed to leave Newcastle, neighbours have told Daily Mail Sport that he had always planned to move after being burgled twice. In May, a family of four were jailed after targeting the star's home. Newcastle Crown Court heard that the gang stole Isak's sports car, jewellery worth £68,000 and up to £10,000 in cash when they burgled his home last April. Isak's victim impact statement said he had been left with 'a sense of unease' by the 'attack' on his home, having not experienced any problems in the first period of living at the property. 'Things changed, however, on April 4, 2024 when, following an evening at a colleague's house, I returned to my home to find I had been burgled and my car stolen from my drive,' he said. 'It appeared a significant level of force had been used to attack the property, a large safe had been thrown over an upstairs balcony... My car had been used as a battering ram to force through the gates of my house. 'None of the property stolen from my home was ever recovered. The attack on my home has left me with a sense of unease and I fear it could reoccur.' A player liaison manager at Newcastle had told the court that the club had been forced to invest in monitored alarm systems and security patrols following a spate of burglaries targeted at players. Isak's future has dominated the summer transfer window, with the forward having told Newcastle and manager Eddie Howe that he wants to join Liverpool. He is still not training with his Newcastle team-mates and will not play in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime. A move will not happen until Newcastle sign at least one replacement striker and the Premier League champions return with an acceptable offer - a £110million bid was rejected earlier this month.

Chelsea join Man Utd and Man City in transfer race for £26m PSG outcast

Chelsea have joined Manchester United and Manchester City in the transfer race for Paris-Saint Germain outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma. Donnarumma's relationship with PSG is said to have 'completely broken' down after he was left out of the club's latest matchday squad – essentially becoming an outcast at the club. The Premier League is thought to be the 'most likely destination' for the PSG goalkeeper, who has been strongly linked with a move to United. According to Oddschecker, City are currently 'odds on' to win the race for Donnarumma at 4/5 with the Italian star having previously been 50/1. But City have already signed Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford this summer – and Chelsea are also keen on a move to sign Donnarumma. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. That's according to reports from France, with RMC Sport claiming that the Blues have made an enquiry about the 26-year-old, who is believed to be available for just £26m. Donnarumma is widely regarded to be one of the best goalkeepers on the planet and has less than one year left on his current contract at PSG. The goalkeeper helped PSG win the Champions League last season and has also landed four Ligue 1 titles since he joined the club from AC Milan. Capped 74 times by Italy, Donnarumma won Euro 2020 with his country, beating England in the final as he was crowned Player of the Tournament. Donnarumma has played 161 games for PSG to date was was named in the Champions League Team of the Season last term. Many football pundits have argued that Chelsea need a new No.1 goalkeeper in order to go to the next level and challenge for the Premier League trophy. Robert Sanchez currently operates as Chelsea's No.1, with Filip Jorgensen the back-up and Gabriel Slonina the club's third option with Mike Penders out on loan at Strasbourg for the 2025-26 campaign. 'If Chelsea want to go and win the Premier League, they will need to have one of the best goalkeepers in the country – they don't have that in Robert Sanchez,' former Blues defender William Gallas told Prime Casino, who offer the latest online slots, this summer. Roberto Di Matteo, though, is adamant that Sanchez is good enough to be Chelsea's No.1 goalkeeper. More Trending 'I said last year that the goalkeeper's position wasn't a priority,' the ex-Chelsea manager told BetVictor, who offer the latest online casino games. 'If you look around at the market, finding somebody better is not easy. Robert Sanchez is a good, solid keeper. 'If you look over the whole [of last] season, Sanchez made some mistakes, which most goalkeepers do during the season. But he also made some really, really crucial saves.' Donnarumma's high salary demands could be a potential stumbling block for Chelsea – given the club usually opt to sign younger players on long contracts with lower wages. Tottenham ready to beat Arsenal and sign Eberechi Eze after opportunity emerges

Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to seize a window of opportunity to beat Arsenal to the signing of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. As reported in the Independent's 'Inside Football' newsletter on Friday, Spurs have ramped up interest in the 27-year-old after the injury to James Maddison, amid a widespread belief that the saga might finally come to a head this week. Arsenal have long been interested in Eze, and are viewed as the Crystal Palace player's first preference, but the fact that no deal has materalised means there is a chance for Spurs to move forward. Eze is open to the idea, despite Spurs not pressing on interest earlier in the summer, with the prospect of Champions League football. An opportunity has arisen because Arsenal have prioritised other positions first, and have spent much of the summer figuring out how to do all of that business and then bring Eze in. The view from numerous sources is that Arsenal's preference is to sell first, rather than just take the risk of making such a signing and then being under pressure to sell before the end of the window. Arsenal's stance is also tempered by the idea of bringing in a left winger, since that is one area where they do not have substantial depth. There has been no official approach to Palace, but clubs have naturally broached potential payment plans. Eze's release clause - understood to be around £68m - expires on 15 August, but only for this window. It is not seen as an obstacle to any deal given that Arsenal have been informally speaking with Palace about alternative structures. Arsenal are open to approaches for Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Jakob Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson. A move for Nelson to Fulham has been discussed, but the player prefers a one-season loan.
