Alex Palou wins another race ... the Zoopolis 500?!
The Indianapolis 500 — aka the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" — where speeds are pushed to new limits each year, is set for Sunday. An almost as exhilarating, yet exponentially slower, spectacle was held Wednesday afternoon at the nearby Indianapolis Zoo:
The Zoopolis 500.
The annual race features tortoises going head-to-head, mimicking race cars as they dash, or trudge methodically, rather, to the finish line.
The winner of the 2025 edition of Zoopolis 500 was a tortoise representing Alex Palou, a fitting result as Palou holds a comfortable lead in the INDYCAR standings.
Palou, the IndyCar driver has won four of five races this season. Palou, the tortoise, is 1 for 1. Together, they are 5 for 6.
On Wednesday, Palou the tortoise beat his competitors to the checkered flag, which sports a platter of food to lure the contestants. There wasn't an opponent in sight.
While the running of the tortoises was the main draw, and a highly-anticipated battle each year, the Zoopolis 500 is an all-encompassing event. Spectators could admire the tortoises "star-patterned shells and learn about conservation efforts aimed at protecting the threatened animals." This upcoming weekend, the zoo will feature five giant Aldara tortoises in an exhibit space called "The Pit Stop."
It's a family-friendly option for fans in Indianapolis for this weekend's big race looking for additional activities.

Horse racing is, unquestionably, its own kind of sport, defined as much by the pastel colors, fancy hats and overall decorum of its showcase events as much as by the beauty and grace of the horses who participate. Advertisement And so when the broadcast of this year's much-anticipated 157th Belmont Stakes, with a rematch between top 3-year-olds Journalism and Sovereignty in the offing, got rolling, there were the usual staples that racing fans have gotten accustomed to seeing. The race was held at Saratoga Race Course for the second straight year, as the track at Belmont is being overhauled, but there were familiar faces like handicapper Jonathon Kinchen, analyst/reporter Maggie Wolfendale and ex-jockey Richard Migliore. The race was being shown by Fox Sports, though, which meant the addition of outsiders like Curt Menefee and Charissa Thompson. That was mostly not objectionable. But the addition of former quarterback Terry Bradshaw--who does, in fairness, own a horse with Menefee that was running on Saturday--was a bridge too far for many racing fans. 'Not happy': Fans react amid sad news around Tony Squires and Candice Warner
Fans are expressing their sadness after it was revealed on Saturday that long-running sports program 'The Back Page' has been axed after 29 years. Tony Squires, who has hosted the show on Fox Sports for the last 12 years, confirmed the sad news but admitted he wasn't surprised. The sport talk-show has been running since 1997, but will wrap up for good after three more episodes. 'Ironically, I wrote a story in 2021 saying television shows don't usually last 25 years,' Squires told . 'They're like animals on the Savannah - very few of them die of old age. 'There's always something young and exciting with big nasty teeth, coming to get them. Well, The Back Page is now 29 years old, I've been hosting it for almost 13 years ... and we've been got. To be honest, it wasn't a shock.' The late, great Mike Gibson was the show's first host back in 1997, and held the role up until 2012. Peter FitzSimons, Billy Birmingham, Tracey Holmes and Jeff Wells were the panellists when it first began, and in recent times it regularly featured journalist Robert Craddock, ironwoman Candice Warner, NRL legend Greg Alexander and AFL great Brad Johnson. Warner, the wife of Aussie cricket great David, became a weekly panellist in 2022 and used the show as a launching pad for her burgeoning media career. Former AFL player-turned-radio host Ryan Fitzgerald was also a regular panellist, as were Socceroos legends Robbie Slater and Mark Bosnich. 'It's been a privilege to host a show once run by the legendary Mike Gibson,' said Squires, who's expected to stay on with Fox Sports in another role. 'But most of all it's been fun - like sitting at the pub with your mates pretending to know a shitload about sport. 'I'm going to miss it. Not because it was a job, but because it was my social life. I got to hang out with Kelli Underwood, Ryan Fitzgerald, Kerry O'Keeffe, Candice Warner, Brad Johnson, Ben Dixon and Robert Craddock - the most enthusiastic man on the planet. 'We've interviewed hundreds of sporting superstars over the years. From Rod Laver to Gout Gout – a 17-year-old kid who lit up the screen on his first live TV interview show just a few weeks ago.' Fox Sports boss Steve Crawley said the decision to cut 'The Back Page' is not a cost-cutting move, denying it has anything to do with Foxtel's new owners DAZN. 'At Fox Sports we have introduced a number of new shows in recent times and we have more in final planning,' he said. 'The Back Page has been entertaining audiences for nearly three decades; there are very few shows that can claim that. 'Entertainment programming is a tough business in that it's like life itself, how everything has a lifespan. Even the great shows like 'Hey Hey It's Saturday' and 'The Back Page'. In a big country with different codes of football and unique tastes, it's extremely rare for a sports show to survive, let alone for almost 30 years.' LIV Golf Virginia: Anirban Lahiri charges to lead after stellar 64 in Round 2
GAINESVILLE, Va. — Although the spotlight is typically on Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau, and rightfully so, it was another Crushers GC player that charged to the top of the leaderboard on Super Saturday at LIV Golf Virginia. Anirban Lahiri, who has four runner-up finishes without a win on LIV Golf, shot a brilliant 7-under 64 to seize control of the individual leaderboard. The 37-year-old made seven birdies without a blemish on the scorecard. Lahiri made a 39-foot par putt on the 16th hole to salvage his momentum and converted another miraculous par on the 18th after having to get up-and-down from over 100 yards away in the rough. At 9-under par, they find themselves just two shots back of Lahiri. McDowell, who's never finished better than T5 in any LIV Golf event, shot a 5-under par with birdies on Nos. 15, 16 and 17 to catapult himself up the leaderboard. Watson, captain of RangeGoats GC, made birdies on 17 and 18 before finishing with pars on Nos. 1 and 2 to finish his round. Kaymer has played steady golf all week and kept himself in the mix with a 67 after sharing the first-round lead with DeChambeau. McDowell, 47, Watson, 48, and Kaymer, 40, will all have a fantastic opportunity to challenge for their first LIV Golf win. LIV Golf's top three in the individual standings: Joaquin Niemann, DeChambeau and Jon Rahm all are within striking distance. The three are tied for fifth at 7 under and just four off the lead. Lahiri, Watson and McDowell will play in Sunday's final group, as tee times have been moved up due to weather.
