Weekend Wishlist: 9 fashion and beauty picks to obsess over

Daily Mirror30-05-2025
Say hello to our shopping team's favourite products this week, from Medik8, Mylee and more
Somehow, it's almost June (where did May go?), which means summer is knocking, and so is payday for many of us. If you've been holding off on a little treat-yourself moment, now's the perfect time to finally hit 'add to cart.'
If you need a little inspiration, our shopping writers, Lauren and Tiffany, are here to help. They've rounded up the best buys of the moment - from buzzy new launches to time-tested staples.
This week's lineup includes a brand-new skincare saviour from Medik8 and a fresh, maple-flavoured addition to Laneige's cult lip glaze collection. Meanwhile, we've also pinned down a dreamy summer dress from Boden and a luxe foundation from Chantecaille that's worth every penny.
So, what are you waiting for? Let's get scrolling.
Lauren's picks:
Roman Original's Shirred Midi Dress - £32 from £42
Roman Originals has dropped a gorgeous new boho-inspired range for summer - some of which looks much more expensive than the price tags suggest. This blue and white printed midi dress, for instance, resembles a Nobody's Child or Joanie effort, but it's only £32 in the sale.
Its tile print design has us dreaming of turquoise oceans and sunny Greek islands, while its ruffled shoulder straps add a little elegance to the style. Shirred fabric is a winner for those who want to feel comfortable all day, especially when you're suffering from post-cocktail bloat.
Additionally, it is made from 100% cotton, providing a soft and breathable feel. However, be cautious when washing, as cotton requires a little extra care to prevent it from shrinking.
Medik8 C-Tetra Advanced 20% Vitamin C Gel-Serum - £69
Medik8, renowned for its scientifically-backed formulas and effective skincare products (think Crystal Retinal), is already a go-to brand for many seeking that radiant glow. So, the buzz was palpable when I heard about the brand's new C-Tetra Advanced 20% Vitamin C Gel-Serum.
Customers have reported that the gel serum imparts a 'visible glow' within a week, with one user noting it 'gives a nice radiance to the face. ' Clinical trials revealed that 100% of users noticed noticeably brighter skin and a decrease in fine lines within seven days.
So, what sets this serum apart from your typical vitamin C dropper? It utilises tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a stabilised form of vitamin C that deeply penetrates to brighten and even out skin tone.
Devotees can also look forward to hyaluronic acid for hydration, along with phyto-exosomes, plant-derived ingredients known for soothing inflammation and fortifying the skin barrier. Essentially, it's like your standard vitamin C serum - but amplified.
If you're embarking on your journey to a glowing complexion, there are numerous other radiance-enhancing formulas to try. I also recommend Sunday Riley's C.E.O. Glow Oil, which is perfect for dry skin types, and Ole Henriksen's Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum for fading dark spots and improving fine lines.
LANEIGE Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum, Maple Glaze - £19
Laneige has whipped up another treat for your lips - introducing Glaze Craze Tinted Lip Serum in Maple Glaze, the latest addition to its dessert-inspired lineup. Known for its delicious flavours, such as vanilla, berry, and matcha, the brand's newest creation is inspired by the smell and taste of a glazed doughnut.
This high-shine serum delivers serious hydration, leaving lips plump, juicy and glossy with a warm, sheer tint that flatters all skin tones. Infused with lip-loving ingredients, such as polypeptides to plump and smooth, and housed in a plush, pillowy application, it's a proper sensory experience.
I loved this when I tried it, but I do prefer a more angled applicator. Another favourite of mine is Paula's Choice Pro-Collagen Peptide Gloss, which features a sharper tip for precise application.
WoodWick Candles - prices vary
I'm a candle girl, through and through. From splurging on luxury picks from Jo Loves and D.S & Durga to stocking up on high-street favourites from Yankee Candle, I've never been one to resist a good scent.
Recently, though, I've been fully converted to WoodWick candles - and now I can't stop burning them. If you haven't tried one yet, they're instantly recognisable thanks to their unique wooden wicks (hence the brand name). When lit, they crackle softly like a real fireplace - cosy, comforting and just the right kind of ASMR to start my day on a calm note.
I'm almost at the bottom of my Rosewood candle, which has a beautiful, light scent that feels fresh yet grounding - ideal for summer. Next up is Solar Ylang, a slightly muskier scent with jasmine and creamy sandalwood.
Beyond the scent, the large candles can go for up to 130 hours. And unlike some candles that fade into the background, these fill the whole room with a fragrance that lingers long after being blown out.
Chantecaille Future Skin Oil-Free Foundation -£83
Chantecaille, the luxury beauty brand adored by celebrities, has recently relaunched its iconic Future Skin foundation, upgrading the formula with additional anti-ageing properties to address the skincare concerns of devoted shoppers. Beloved for its lightweight, second-skin effect, the oil-free foundation is a staple even among The Crown's makeup artists, who swear by it for creating "flawless, healthy and luminous skin" on the hit series.
Beauty enthusiasts can grab the reinvented product exclusively online for £83, while Cult Beauty has slashed the price of the old formula by 15%. It is an expensive makeup, but it offers brightening, anti-ageing, and concealing coverage all in one pot.
The rejuvenated range now boasts seven additional hues, ensuring perfect colour matches, and sports environmentally friendly glass and aluminium packaging. Moreover, the foundation is enriched with a 58% water component and nurturing botanicals like Spiriolela Polyrrhiza, calming Chaga Mushroom, and a Mastic tree alternative to retinol.
Testers said it "delivers skin-like finish but better", and some noticed an "instant younger appearance."
Boden Maya Kimono Jersey Maxi Dress, £102 (with code JM7D)
Although the May bank holidays might be over, the summer weather has got me in a shopping mood for something fun and effortlessly stylish. With Boden dropping its new summer range, I spied this Maya Kimono Dress in a wide-sleeve kimono style, and this is sending dreams of being on The White Lotus series.
Featuring a loud foliage trail print in contrasting pink and green colours, the dress features a low V-neckline, a gathered waistline, and every shopper's favourite - pockets. It's a versatile piece that can be worn on your next vacation.
One delighted customer commented: "This is very wearable for a titch and does not swamp. Lovely colour, slightly low cut on the bodice, but not enough for anything to leap out and frighten the horses."
I could see myself wearing this to UK seaside towns, spa resorts, and even a holiday outfit to southern Europe, and another shopper noted: "This stylish dress boasts 'clever shaping' to enhance your figure."
Eylure Hybrid No210 False Lashes Pair and Lash Adhesive - £7
With makeup trends shifting towards a natural look, beauty lovers also prefer a lighter and more natural lash look. As a short-lash girl, I find going for a full, wispy look too dramatic - I would prefer shorter, lighter wings without that telltale falsie glare.
The Eylure Hybrid No. 210 pair is a full-strip lash that offers natural volume with a light texture, creating a spikey, defined salon lash look. I am eager to try these, and I think they will be perfect for everyday wear and night-out glam.
If full strip lashes are still too much, there is also an option for cluster lashes in different lengths so shoppers can customise their look and be their own lash tech. Eylure's Clusters Fluffy, £8, has 36 sets of cluster lashes, while Ardell's Naked Trio Lashes are at a lower price point at £5.95.
Bijoux de Mimi Bangle Gold Star Bangle - £35.50
Colourful jewellery always puts a smile on my face, and Bijoux de Mimi's alluring gemstone pave bangle is a lovely statement piece of arm candy for summer. Since I picked this up last week, I've found this rainbow-coloured version in a gold-plated bangle always receives compliments.
Crafted from 18K PVD electroplated stainless steel, the bangle also features a new and improved round clasp to stay securely in place on the arm. It is also water-resistant, hypoallergenic, and designed for extended wear without fading or tarnishing.
Known as the "original colourful jewellery", the collection also features dainty huggie earrings, such as the Rainbow Huggie Earring Stacker Set, £47, a four-piece huggie earring stack that includes a cuff and chain, creating the visual effect of a fifth piercing.
Mylee Gel Nail Wraps - £13.99
Article continues below
Scrolling through Instagram, I'm seeing many posts about summer nail inspirations. Still, with no time for a manicure, I usually opt for an easy single-colour nail varnish to keep things simple. But Mylee's new gel nail wraps have got me excited.
Available in various patterns, this Berries and Cream is my top pick. The check pattern and cherry figures are perfect for the upcoming Wimbledon season. The wraps are easy to use, and beginners can also purchase a Prep & Peel Kit, £24.99, which comes with a nail prep wipe, nail file, a pair of scissors for trimming excess gel nail wraps, a remover oil, and a metal cuticle pusher.

Despite the painful break-up, it's hoped this - and his recent return to England playing for Dagenham & Redbridge - will be the fresh start Andy needs to get back to being himself. An insider told The Sun: 'Behind all the glitz and glamour on social media, Andy's been really going through it. 'He was recently on a family holiday with Lou and his parents, talking about the future now he's back home in England. 'It's undeniable that Andy misses parts of how his life once was. "He's become dependent on Lou who has undoubtedly been there for him, but everyone can see they don't bring out the best in each other. 'It's been very toxic for a long time, which Andy's loved ones have seen first-hand. 'They've been worried about the dynamics of their relationship. They like Lou, but little things would often turn into big arguments. 'It came from a place of passionate, intense love, as there's so much deep feeling there between them, but ultimately it just doesn't work. 'Their fallouts in public would cause a scene. So much so, the police were even called out in Mykonos. 'Everyone who loves Andy just wants him to get back to himself, in a happy and more stable place.' Ex-England star Andy Carroll DUMPS Lou Teasdale after police quiz over boozy rows as he tells pals he's 'sick' of her Holiday drama The ex-couple got together weeks after he split from Towie star Billi, mum to three of his five kids, in summer 2024. But they called it quits two months after Andy was twice-quizzed by cops over drunken bust-ups with Lou on the Greek party island of Mykonos. He was warned after their first argument at a beachside restaurant, then taken to the police station after a second row at their hotel that evening. Andy was not arrested, and it is understood that no further action was taken. Yesterday, we told of their fiery break-up after their clashing lifestyles reached boiling point. Sources said teetotal Lou would prefer Andy to quit drinking - and hoped to work through their issues. 5 Andy poses with Lou Teasdale at his signing on a free transfer for non-league side Dagenham & Redbridge in July Credit: Ian Whittaker 5 The footballer is back playing in England after leaving France Credit: Getty She slapped down reports that her friends 'hated' Andy - insisting they had nothing but love for the former Newcastle footballer. 'Nasty and not true', said Lou - who counts pop star Harry Styles as a close pal - in a post on Instagram. The celebrity make-up artist was wiped off Andy's social media before news of their split broke. But she has kept loved-up snaps of them together on Instagram - even though he unfollowed her. Our source added: "Andy has been adamant that he just wants to focus on football and his kids. "But he still has so much love for Lou, so friends are worried they'll both be dragged back into the toxic relationship. "They're both taking time to work out their next steps. Andy needs to find what makes him truly content and happy."

Lauren Sanchez shares cryptic post about flights being 'about what you learn' not 'where you land' after THAT Blue Origin spaceflight criticism

has shared a cryptic post after the Blue Origin space mission came under widespread fire. The American news anchor, 55, took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to share a telling post about flights being about 'what you learn'. Alongside a photograph of a sunset, she poignantly penned: 'Not all flights are about where you land... some are about what you learn along the way.' She did not say what she was referring to but her comment came months after the Blue Origin spaceflight came under widespread fire. Daily Mail has contacted Lauren's representatives for comment. Blue Origin is owned by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, 61, who is married to Lauren after the pair tied the knot on June 27 in Venice. The 11-minute Blue Origin mission carried Lauren, Katy Perry, Gayle King civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn into space. Flight NS-31 marked the first launch with an all-female crew since Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova's solo space flight in 1963. However, the mission was blasted by A-listers who had branded it 'gluttonous' and 'planet destroying' as many questioned what it actually does for society. Olivia Munn, Emily Ratajkowski, and Kesha were all among those who publicly blasted the spaceflight in scathing comments. And social media users were also in agreement as they also took to social media to complain that the launch was nothing more than a 'joyride for the super-rich'. Dr Gareth Dorrian, a space scientist from the University of Birmingham, told MailOnline: 'Let's call it what it is and not tell ourselves that it is contributing meaningfully to science or space exploration. 'I am afraid I do still think these flights are essentially just joyrides for the super-rich.' While Katy Perry and her fellow crewmates did technically enter space, not everyone is convinced they deserve the title 'astronauts' as Blue Origin insisted. The New Shepard Rocket carried the capsule to the edge of space at nearly twice the speed of sound before detaching and allowing the crew to experience a few minutes of weightlessness. During that period the crew capsule crossed the Karman Line, technically passing from Earth's atmosphere into space. The capsule then made the return journey back to Earth, as the unfurling parachutes drew screams from the crew onboard. Just 11 minutes after launch, the New Shepard capsule touched down within driving distance of the launch platform where Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos was present to open the hatch. While Blue Origin has touted the all-female mission as an inspirational moment in the history of spaceflight, many others were not so convinced. On X, commenters slammed the mission, with comments including: 'They spent like 30 seconds in space. It's not much more than a glorified amusement park ride'; On X, formerly Twitter, one commenter wrote: 'They're not astronauts.... I think real astronauts would be offended at that. They're celebrities sat on their bums'; 'I could not care less about rich people going to space right now'; 'It's just a glorified carnival ride with an escape system and parachutes and tailored outfits/seats. It's a PR stunt if anything.' Blue Origin's 11-minute mission to space 00:00 - Launch New Shepard rocket launches from the Blue Origin Launch Site One about 30 miles north of Van Horn, Texas, at 14:30 BST (09:30) local time. The engine burns a mixture of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen to produce 50,000 kg of force accelerating the rocket to around twice the speed of sound. Onboard, the crew experience three times the force of gravity as the booster accelerates. 02:40 - Booster separation Booster detaches pushing the crew capsule out into space as it returns to Earth. Without the force of the booster pushing from below, the capsule enters freefall and the crew experience weightlessness. During the top of the capsule's path, those inside will enjoy about two to four minutes of weightlessness. 03:30 - Capsule enters space At an altitude of 62 miles, the capsule passes the Karman Line. This line denotes the point at which craft can't rely on the atmosphere to fly and need to start using rocket systems. The line is often used as the boundary of space, although it is about 190 miles (305km) beneath the orbit of the International Space Station. 07:30 - Booster section lands The booster guides itself back to Earth and makes a soft touchdown. Using its remaining fuel the booster slows itself to just 6 miles per hour (9.7 kmph), allowing it to make a gentle touchdown. This makes the rocket reusable for up to 25 trips. The capsule begins to descend to Earth and the crew return to their seats as the force of gravity returns. Three parachutes are deployed to slow the descent and the capsule lands gently within driving distance of the launch platform.

Joanie £99 jacket that shoppers rave 'fits really well' now £39 and comes in eight colours

Joanie shoppers have been hailing a jacket that 'fits really well' and it is now £60 cheaper. The Soft Tailored Blazer, in a gingham pattern, was £99 but is now as low as £39.60. There are eight colours available all together, with the gingham pattern being one of the cheapest in Joanie's clearance sale. But shoppers can get two gingham patterns - one blue (£39.60) and one brown (£99), or the geometric floral print (£59.40), daisy print (£59.40), pink floral print (£39.60), art nouveau print soft (£59.40) ornamental chinoiserie print (£99) or a simple black colour (£99). The item is made with organic cotton and natural fibres, described as comfortable, slightly stretchy fabric, making it a breathable but durable product to wear. The Soft Tailored Blazer comes in a classic blazer shape, with long sleeves and patch pockets. With its regular fit, Joanie recommends that you go for your usual size, with the sizes ranging from 8 to 26. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here. The description of the clothing reads: "Meet Richy, the blazer that totally means business. Crafted from a super-soft navy blue and white printed gingham organic cotton, this chic jacket features a classic blazer shape with long sleeves, patch pockets, and functional retro oversized buttons. Pair with the matching Pipette Shorts for effortless coordinated cool, or keep it casual and throw it over your favourite vintage T-shirt and jeans - job done." If you love Joanie then you'll like Boden, with the retailer also offering a clearance sale. Shoppers can buy the Knightsbridge Gingham Jacket for £199 from Boden, but is 15% off with a special code. But for something with a more simplistic style, you could buy the M&S Collection Slim Single Breasted Blazer for £49.50 at Marks and Spencer. Back at Joanie, the Soft Tailored Blazer in the gingham pattern has only received one review. With a rating of five out of five stars, the review reads: "Fits really well, true to size and lovely co-ord. Wore to an event and got so many compliments!" But the blazers in different patterns have also received reviews. The geometric floral print blazer has received two reviews. One customer said: "I bought both the blazer and trousers and feel great in them! Such an amazing suit!" While another had this to say: "This is the best piece of clothing I own. I feel so badass in this. Get it!" While one customer was not entirely satisfied with their purchase. One customer, who bought the black jacket, reviewed: "The quality of this jacket is not great for what you are paying. Went out of shape badly after hanging on a chair while I had lunch. "The pockets seem too far back which makes it difficult to put your hands in them and also looks a bit strange. The material feels cheap and when buttoned it doesn't sit very well. The lining of the jacket is very nice though." But the black jacket also received a positive review from another. They penned: "For years I been searching a jacket and at last I've found perfection. Beautiful lining, cut, and with the sleeves just the right length. Plus the fabric has a bit of stretch to make it very comfortable. I'm so pleased I'm tempted to get one of the patterned versions. Decisions, decisions!"
