Teen hiker suffering leg cramps brought down from Mt Singai
BAU (June 22): An 18-year-old hiker who experienced leg cramps while climbing the Catholic Memorial and Pilgrimage (CMPC) near Mount Singai here was safely rescued on Saturday afternoon.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement yesterday said a team from the Bau fire station was dispatched to rescue the woman following a call for help at 1.42pm.
'The victim was reported to have suffered leg cramps at the 12th level of the mountain.
'The information was relayed to the rescue team by the victim's younger sibling, who was with her at the time,' it said.
Bomba said its team, assisted by Civil Defence Force personnel, carried the hiker down using a bucket stretcher, and handed her over to her family members upon reaching the foot of the mountain.
'She was then taken to Bau Hospital for medical attention,' it added.

Woman at Pas rally rushed to hospital after breathing difficulty
KUALA LUMPUR: A participant of the Pas-led rally in Dataran Merdeka here was rushed to the hospital after she experienced shortness of breath. A Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operation centre spokesman said checks showed the woman, in her 30s, was found to have low blood sugar. "She received preliminary treatment at the scene before she was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital by the Fire and Rescue Department's Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit," the spokesman in the statement. Hiker, 75, survives 500m fall at Gunung Mulu National Park with head injuries
MIRI, July 24 — A hiker survived with head injuries after falling 500 metres down a slope at the Gunung Mulu National Park near here today. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement, the incident occurred near Camp 5 of the park — a popular rest point for trekkers heading towards the pinnacles. The Marudi Bomba station received an emergency call from the Marudi Mountain Cave Search and Rescue (Mocsar) team at around 12.45pm and immediately deployed a team to the site. 'The team arrived at the scene within minutes and administered initial treatment to stop the bleeding from the head of the victim, Elisa Paul @ Lisa Paul, 75. 'The rescue team has requested aerial evacuation assistance, as the victim is conscious but sustained serious injuries, including bleeding from the head,' said Bomba. A helicopter from Layang-Layang Aerospace Miri Sdn Bhd was dispatched to transport the injured hiker to the hospital for further treatment. Rozita Nazari said her daughter, Siti Nor Khalisah Mustaza Abdullah, complained that her legs were aching after she fell during a long-jump in January. 'At that time, I didn't think it was serious and only applied ointment on her because she didn't complain of significant pain. 'However, a month later, she suddenly cried and said her leg hurt very much,' the mother said. Rozita, 47, took her daughter for an X-ray and later brought her to Hospital Tuanku Jaafar. She was hospitalised for three weeks and was diagnosed with bone cancer on May 28.
