Tigers place rookie Jackson Jobe on 15-day IL with elbow injury

Reuters2 days ago

May 30 - Detroit Tigers rookie starting pitcher Jackson Jobe was placed on the 15-day injured list with a Grade 1 flexor strain, the team announced Friday. The move was retroactive to Thursday.
Jobe mentioned some discomfort in his right throwing elbow after Wednesday's start against the San Francisco Giants. He threw 95 pitches in 4 2/3 innings -- allowing three runs on seven hits -- before being removed.
"He reported that he had a little bit of soreness," Detroit manager AJ Hinch said on Friday. "So we took him immediately to get evaluated. When the test came back and the doctors read it, they discovered this flexor strain.
"I try not to rush to any judgment until we see how his rest goes and see how his rehab goes. We'll listen to the doctors and the pitching coaches on that."
The 22-year-old Jobe, the third overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, entered the 2025 season as one of the top prospects in baseball. Through 10 starts, he is 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA, 39 strikeouts and 27 walks in 49 innings.
Right-handed reliever Dylan Smith was called up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. To make room for Smith on the 40-man roster, Alex Cobb was transferred to the 60-day DL.
Jobe joins three other Tigers starting pitchers on the IL: Cobb (hip inflammation), Reese Olson (finger inflammation), and Sawyer Gipson-Long (elbow surgery).

LAFC book place in Chelsea's group at Club World Cup

Los Angeles FC booked a place in Chelsea's group at this summer's Fifa Club World Cup after coming from behind to beat Club America in a play-off. Gabon international Denis Bouanga drilled home the winner five minutes from the end of extra time after the match, being played at LAFC's BMO Stadium, had finished 1-1. The one-off game was played after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Fifa's decision to expel Mexican side Club Leon from the new extended 32-team tournament, which will be played in the United States from 15 June to 13 July. Fifa determined in March that Club Leon did not meet tournament regulations on multi-club ownership. They had qualified for the Club World Cup after beating LAFC in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League final, while Club America were the highest-ranked team behind Club Leon in confederation ranking who did not qualify for the America took the lead in the play-off through a 64th minute penalty by former LAFC player Brian Rodriguez after Mark Delgado had fouled Erick Igor Jesus headed home an 89th-minute equaliser, his first LAFC goal, to take the game into extra time. Former Chelsea and Arsenal forward Oliver Giroud provided the spark for LAFC after being introduced off the bench in the 74th 38-year-old, a World Cup winner with France, set up Bouanga's winner as the play-off looked to be heading for a penalty who also include former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in their ranks, will face Chelsea in their opening Group D fixture in Atalanta on 16 June, before further matches against Brazilian side Flamengo and Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

KATE WILLS: My baby name consultant has suggested Ever, Jules Sidney and Scout River... what WILL my mother in law think?

I knew things were bad when I found myself hanging around in coffee shops just to listen to the names the barista was calling out. I hoped that one of them would spark inspiration. Every time they yelled a name across the room, I tried to imagine myself yelling it across a playground for the next decade. But nothing stuck. Despite numerous lists of names on my phone and 5am wake-ups where I mull over various monikers ideas in my mind, I'm six months' pregnant and struggling to find a name for our baby. Is it time to call in expert help?
