MrBeast's new video has drawn scrutiny from the Mexican government — and even the president. Here's what's going on.

MrBeast 's latest video has captured the attention of the Mexican government, and even President Claudia Sheinbaum has weighed in.
Earlier this week, the YouTube star — whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson — posted a video exploring several ancient Mayan temples, including Chichen Itza.
"Can't believe the government's letting us do this," the 27-year-old says in the video, after which he reiterates in a voiceover, "Not even archaeologists are allowed to go back here."
In the description of the video, which has 60 million views and counting, Donaldson wrote that the video was filmed "in collaboration with the Mexican Tourism Board," and he thanked the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), a government agency that works to preserve Mexico's cultural heritage.
CNN reported there was initially controversy around Donaldson's access to the sites. On Monday, the INAH said in a statement that the necessary permits had been processed and that INAH personnel were supervising the recordings at all times.
The INAH added that the video seemed to involve extensive post-production work and allude to events that never occurred, including a helicopter descent onto one of the temples and the handling of an ancient mask.
On Wednesday, Sheinbaum spoke publicly about the video. CNN reported that she asked the INAH to report the conditions under which the production permit had been granted. If the permit was violated, she added, then sanctions must be determined.
'It is unfortunate that this has turned into a political issue'
On Thursday, the INAH said in a thread on X that it was bringing a lawsuit against a production company called Full Circle Media that worked with Donaldson on the video. Donaldson himself isn't facing any legal action.
The thread alludes to a moment near the end of the video, when Donaldson is enjoying a traditional Mayan feast. After dinner, he brings out a box of Feastables peanut butter cups for dessert, joking that it's the "only Mayan-approved snack on the planet."
The INAH on X said that while it is open to collaboration to disseminate Mexico's cultural heritage, it condemned those who detract from the value of archaeological sites for commercial gain.
It said the permit granted to Full Circle Media did not authorize the publication of false information or the use of the sites for advertising. The INAH is demanding compensation for damages and a public retraction.
Full Circle Media didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
"This video, similar to the one of the pyramids in Egypt, was meant to highlight these treasured Mexican sites," a source close to MrBeast told Business Insider. "No advertisement material was shot on any archaeological sites overseen by INAH, so it is unfortunate that this has turned into a political issue — hopefully it can lead to a productive dialogue and encourage people to visit these unique historical treasures."

One of the most intense psychological thriller movies is streaming for free — and it's a dark ride full of shocking twists

I'm not usually rattled by slow-burn thrillers, considering I've watched some of the most intense horror movies to ever exist. But 'The Lodge' is a dark psychological thriller that genuinely surprised me and even remained in the corners of my mind for quite some time. Released in theaters in 2020, 'The Lodge' is the kind of movie that starts with an icy stillness and slowly builds into full-blown psychological chaos. There's no gore overload or cheap jump scares here, which is refreshing for the genre. Instead, it offers a steady unraveling of reality that will leave you double-checking the locks and rethinking your weekend getaway plans. If you haven't seen it yet (or even if you have and want to experience it all over again), there's great news: 'The Lodge' landed on Tubi at the beginning of the month, and yes, that means it's streaming completely free. You'll have to sit through a few ads, but honestly, they're a welcome breather from the movie's relentless tension. Since it's streaming on one of the best free streaming services, you've got no excuse not to dive in. However, if you need more context, here's why 'The Lodge' is one of the most intense psychological thrillers of the past few years (and why it might just mess with your head in the best possible way). What is 'The Lodge' about? The Lodge [Official Trailer] – In Theaters Fall 2019 - YouTube Watch On 'The Lodge' follows Grace (Riley Keough), a woman who joins her boyfriend Richard (Richard Armitage) and his two children, Aidan (Jaeden Martell) and Mia (Lia McHugh), on a holiday retreat to a remote, snow-covered cabin. Still grieving the recent loss of their mother, the children are distant and cold toward Grace, who is trying to bond with them despite their discomfort. When Richard is called away for work, he leaves Grace alone with the children. Soon after he departs, strange things begin to happen in the lodge. Their belongings disappear, the power goes out, and they become stranded with no means of communication or escape. As conditions worsen, tensions rise between Grace and the children. Grace struggles to maintain control and clarity as the environment around her grows increasingly unsettling. The line between reality and delusion begins to blur, and fear sets in as it becomes unclear whether something supernatural is at play or if something far more human is behind what's happening. Why you should stream 'The Lodge' on Tubi now (Image credit: FilmNation Entertainment / TCD / / Alamy) It's quite difficult for a movie to unsettle me since I've sat through all kinds of slashers and haunting stories without blinking. Usually, I can see the scares coming a mile away, and most psychological thrillers tend to play by familiar rules. But 'The Lodge' managed to catch me off guard just by its creeping sense of dread alone. The setup is simple enough: Grace heads to a remote snow-covered cabin with her boyfriend's two kids. He leaves them alone there for a few days (which already feels like a questionable parenting choice), and what follows is an increasingly bizarre and claustrophobic descent into something much darker than I expected. Grace's past is revealed fairly early on, but to keep things mysterious and preserve the viewing experience, I won't spoil the details. What this backstory does is make her character far more harrowing and adds layers of ambiguity, meaning she's not a straightforward protagonist, and there's no clear 'side.' (Image credit: FilmNation Entertainment / TCD / / Alamy) I won't get into any juicy plot points, because 'The Lodge' is definitely best experienced blind. But what I can say is that it plays with perception in a really unsettling way. The power cuts out, their belongings go missing, and soon nobody (including the viewer) can fully trust what's real. It's a movie that thrives on silence and isolation, and it slowly builds this atmosphere of unease that's way more effective than any loud noise could be. This thriller wouldn't be nearly as impactful without Riley Keough, who does a fantastic job of playing a woman clearly holding on by a thread. You'll be surprised how much you empathize with Grace, who becomes heartbreakingly vulnerable the more weird things keep happening, until the point she's having disturbing visions and being tormented by her dreams. (Image credit: FilmNation Entertainment / TCD / / Alamy) Co-directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala clearly know how to craft a visually stunning thriller, and in this case, 'The Lodge' fits the cold and minimal vibe through the claustrophobic cabin alone. This duo previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed 2014 movie 'Goodnight Mommy,' which also focuses on the characters' deteriorating mental states. 'The Lodge' is not a fun movie, and it's definitely not an easy watch, but it's gripping in the way only the best psychological thrillers can be. You don't need to take my word for it either, since it holds a solid score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the site's critics consensus reading: 'Led by an impressive Riley Keough performance, The Lodge should prove a suitably unsettling destination for fans of darkly atmospheric horror.' However, audiences did rate it at a low 51%, mainly due to its slower pacing and Grace's convoluted backstory. But for anyone seeking a slow-burn thriller that still manages to keep you guessing, 'The Lodge' is well worth your time. Just make sure to wrap up warm because this snow-focused experience is very chilling. You can stream 'The Lodge' for free on Tubi now. She Thought Her Best Friend Came Over to Hang Out. Then She Played Her Own Funeral Montage (Exclusive)

Alexis, who works in the funeral industry, made a 24-minute video to be played at her own memorial — and debuted it at her best friend's house The emotional and hilarious moment went viral after Jasmine posted the clip to TikTok with the caption, 'Having a morbid best friend… is not for the weak' Alexis says her motivation is love, not morbidity: 'I just want to be prepared — and make sure I look good doing it'It was supposed to be just another night in for Jasmine and her best friend of 11 years, Alexis, filled with comfort food and familiar banter. Instead, Alexis showed up with a laptop and a 24-minute funeral montage she made for herself — complete with emotional music, carefully selected photos, and a vision for how she wants to be remembered. 'I made my funeral montage,' Alexis told Jasmine as she connected the laptop to the TV. 'I was like, girl, get this out of my house,' Jasmine tells PEOPLE. The moment, which was captured in a TikTok clip that quickly went viral, showed Alexis hitting play on her carefully curated farewell video. The caption read: 'Having a morbid best friend who works in funeral and cemetery services is not for the weak.' For Alexis, who's spent over six years in the cemetery and funeral industry, this kind of planning is second nature. 'I've always just been a little morbid and creepy myself,' she admits, adding that her Mexican-American upbringing helped her embrace death rather than fear it. Their friendship, Jasmine says, has always felt fated. 'We've always been kind of connected,' she shares. 'Like we were meant to meet. We would have met somehow.' The inspiration for Alexis's montage came after Jasmine's cousin's motorcycle accident left everyone unprepared for the worst. 'He's a young man, so he had no will, he had no nothing,' Alexis says. 'That was one of the questions I was asking: does he have anything like a power of attorney? Who's making the decisions here?' Thankfully, he didn't die, but that experience, along with the loss of another relative, motivated Alexis to take control of her own story. 'I'm really particular, and I don't trust anybody to do things the way that I want to do it,' she says. 'If this happens to me, you make sure I'm right. Don't have me looking all crazy with two different-shaped eyebrows. I got to have my nails done. I want a specific color of flowers.' She laughs about wanting only the 'hottest photos' in her montage, but her motivation is deeply practical. 'By pre-planning and getting your affairs in order and even doing stuff like this, you're unburdening your family from having to do this,' Alexis explains. 'I've been in this situation where I've had to put this together at the time of somebody's passing, and you're just miserable.' Jasmine remembers the night vividly. 'She comes over to my house with a laptop and says, 'I need to screen play onto your TV.' I'm like, 'what did you do?' And she's like, 'I made my funeral montage.' I was like, girl, get this out of my house.' But Alexis insisted, and soon the video was playing — sad music, special montages for Jasmine's kids and all. The tears came quickly, but so did the laughter. 'We were both crying watching it. I'm right here, what am I doing?' Jasmine says. 'They're looking at us like, what's the matter with you guys?' For Alexis, humor and honesty are essential parts of coping with life's hardest moments. 'I just want everybody to be miserable without me,' she jokes, but she also wants her loved ones to have something to smile about when the time comes. The TikTok's success was a surprise to both. Jasmine originally posted it to her private Instagram, thinking it was just another silly video between friends. 'It just so happened to go viral,' she says. 'At the time, I wasn't thinking about that. But I was like, let me show all the people that follow me what this dummy's up to today. Because it's always something with her.' The internet's reaction was immediate and divided. Some people worried Alexis was 'manifesting' her own death, while others praised her for being so prepared. 'What's the difference between doing this and making a will?' Jasmine says. 'You're not manifesting your own demise. You're just being prepared.' Alexis's approach to death — and life — has even changed Jasmine's perspective. 'I used to be super afraid of death. Like, don't even talk about it,' Jasmine admits. 'But being friends with her, going through my own medical traumas and things, I've learned to cope with it through comedy, laughing, and accepting it. We all know we're going to pay taxes, and we're all going to die. None of us know when.' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Their friendship, Jasmine says, is built on honesty, laughter and a willingness to tackle even the toughest topics together. 'If you have people in your life that care for you the way we care for each other, hold on to them. Say sorry when you mess up,' Alexis says. 'Nothing's ever that serious in life. Even death isn't that serious.' Every detail of Alexis's final wishes is planned out — from who gets her favorite Darth Maul t-shirt to the color of her funeral flowers. 'I have my power of attorney. I have my last will. It literally goes down to the t-shirts that I have,' she says. 'This is the last time I'm going to see that video because I won't be there when they play it.' Spain's The Frank Barton Company Unveils Plans To Expand Animated Preschool YouTube Hit ‘Pim Pam Pino'

EXCLUSIVE: Madrid-based The Frank Barton Company has revealed it is working on a second season of preschool animated series Pim Pam Pino, which has proven a hit on YouTube, and is looking for further distribution partners. Since its launch on YouTube in Spanish and English at the end of 2024, the show has drawn 70,000 subscribers worldwide, and generated 55 million views. More from Deadline DeAPlaneta Teams With China's Alpha Group To Relaunch Animated Polar Bear Character 'Bernard' Andy Serkis & T'Nia Miller Leading Voice Cast Of Joeri Christiaen Animated Special 'A Lamb's Stew' 2025-26 Awards Season Calendar: Dates For Tonys, Emmys, Oscars & More The Frank Barton Company's commitment to further developing the in-house original series marks a turning point for the animation and special effects boutique, known for its high-end campaigns for global brands. Founded in 2008 as a collective, the company has built its reputation in the animated advertising, working with agencies and advertisers across Europe and further afield, but Pim Pam Pino is born out of the team's desire to create something more lasting. 'For every ad campaign, we had to build a brand-new universe from scratch—only to see it disappear once the job was done. We wanted to create something that could last, something of our own,' says Ursula García, Executive Producer and Co-Director at The Frank Barton Company. 'That's how Pim Pam Pino was born: as a space where we could tell our own stories, at our own pace.' The 3D animation series, which was conceived and produced without external funding, takes inspiration from wooden toys and manipulative materials, creates an immersive world designed for children aged from zero to five-years-old. Rather than focusing on lead characters, the show is built around a collection of wooden pieces— such as cats on vacuum cleaners, flying piglets, geometric shape – which are used to tell new stories each time, much like a child reaching into a toy box. Each episode introduces learning moments, giving lessons around subjects such as counting, exploring emotions, or discovering animals, which are animated to original songs or traditional melodies reimagined using mostly wooden instruments.. 'Our goal with Pim Pam Pino is to offer a respectful, screen-based learning experience that echoes the tactile richness of real-world play,' said Walter Belenky, Creative Director of the show. 'The slow pacing, warm tones, and thoughtful music are all designed to support healthy cognitive and emotional development in young children.' Members of the The Frank Barton Company team will be at Annecy International Animation Film Festival next week for meeting its plans for the 52-episode Season Two and distribution possibilities.
