Shedeur Sanders' ticket for allegedly speeding over 100 mph wasn't his first since joining Browns
Shedeur Sanders' speeding ticket Tuesday for allegedly driving more than 100 mph wasn't his first since joining the Cleveland Browns.
Per Cleveland.com, the Browns' rookie quarterback was previously cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on June 6 for speeding in the Cleveland suburb of Medina, Ohio. Details of the the incident, including how fast Sanders was allegedly driving, are not clear from police records.

Per court records obtained by Cleveland.com, Sanders missed a June 16 arraignment related to the infraction. It's not clear from the report if Sanders was required to show up in court or if he had the option of paying a fine that would absolve him from his court date. Court records state that the ticket was for $150 and that additional costs raised the total fine to $249.
On June 17 — the night after his scheduled court date — Sanders was pulled over at 12:30 a.m. in Strongville, Ohio at 12:24 a.m. for his second speeding infraction in two weeks. Police say that he was driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone in his Dodge pickup truck on Highway 71 in the Cleveland suburb.
Police released bodycam footage of the traffic stop that appeared to take place without notable incident.
Per Cleveland.com, Sanders has a July 3 court date scheduled in Strongsville's Mayor's Court related to the second speeding infraction. Browns spokesman Peter John-Baptiste told Cleveland.com that the team has addressed the infractions with Sanders.

'He is taking care of the tickets,' John-Baptiste told Cleveland.com.
Sander has not addressed the tickets with media.
The Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft out of Colorado. Sanders, the son of Colorado coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was projected to be selected significantly higher, and his slide to the fifth round became the story of the NFL Draft.
Sanders was the second quarterback selected by the Browns, who drafted Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round. Both quarterbacks are engaged in a battle for the starting quarterback position in Cleveland alongside veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.

Deshaun Watson, who's under contract for $230 million, is recovering from an Achilles injury that's expected to keep him sidelined until late in the 2025 season at the earliest. He struggled on the field prior to his injury and was at risk of losing his starting quarterback job, regardless.
The Browns wrapped mandatory minicamp last week. The competition for Cleveland's starting quarterback position will resume at training camp in July.

Shedeur Sanders cited for speeding twice in June amid Browns QB battle
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited by police on Tuesday morning for driving 101 mph, 40 mph over the speed limit. It turns out that Tuesday's infraction was not his first. According to Medina, Ohio court records Sanders received another citation in June. The first came on June 5 in Brunswick, Ohio where the former Colorado star quarterback was cited for going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone. Browns officials told that Sanders' "is taking care of the tickets." Sanders is squarely in the middle of a hard fought quarterback competition. He has pefermored well during spring practices, but only being a fifth round pick makes any negative feel like it could cost him a chance at playing meaningful football. At a Thursday afternoon charity softball game, Sanders attempted to apologize for his actions admitting, "I've made some wrong choices." The half-hearted apology does not seem like a concerted effort to improve his off field actions, but in the grand scheme of "things"incidents" a speeding ticket is very low on the totem pole. Whether Sanders learns from his two speeding tickets and fully owns up to his mistakes remains to be seen, but any off-field transgression will be under the spotlight considering his name and already highly publicizied first few months in the NFL.
