PSM agrees to change name to Malaysian Sepak Takraw Federation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) has agreed to change its name to the Sepak Takraw Federation of Malaysia (Malay acronym remains as PSM) soon.
Its president, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said the decision was made at yesterday's Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) after the motion to amend the association's constitution received the support of over two-thirds of the total delegates.
He pointed out that the name change would only take effect if the constitution amendment is approved by the Sports Commissioner.
"All amendments to the constitution will take effect after being approved by the Sports Commissioner. So we will send the request soon. As long as we don't get approval, we can't use it yet," he said when met after the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here today.
He also explained that the name change was aimed to streamline it with the names of other sports bodies using the word 'Federation'.
"Actually, this isn't new, we have discussed it before and many have agreed as it better reflects our role as the country's main administrator of sepak takraw," he added.
Meanwhile the results of the association's officebearers for the 2025-2028 term were announced after elections were held at today's AGM.
Sumali retained the president's post uncontested, Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan was elected deputy president, and Datuk Abu Jimi Samat (51 votes), Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman (48 votes) and Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah (44 votes) were elected as vice-presidents. – BERNAMA

Tok Mat: Some trying to drive wedge between me and Zahid
TANGKAK: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has revealed that certain individuals attempted to create friction between him and party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Without naming anyone, Mohamad, who is also the foreign minister, said he was not swayed by such provocations. Mohamad, fondly known as Tok Mat, said he believed the attempts were aimed at weakening his relationship with the party president and potentially disrupting unity within Umno. "There are those trying to pit me against the Umno president. "When that happens, I just smile because I know the individual behind it cannot be trusted. "This is someone who has previously spoken ill of the president. "I have no idea what he might have said behind my back," he said in his opening speech at the Ledang Umno division delegates' meeting here today. Mohamad said he was aware that being the party's number two was not an easy role, as it came with significant responsibility in supporting the party president. He also stressed that the party's current focus was on championing the rights and future of the Malay community and Islam, while ensuring Umno remains a voice for the people. "The party must come first. If we win, we win as a team, like passengers in a bus. If we lose, we lose together in the 'same carriage'. "Of course, there will be those who jump off the carriage when we lose. But I hope our members remain loyal to the party regardless of the outcome," he added.
