Darius Cooper's impressive start has DeVonta Smith searching for his highlights on YouTube
Darius Cooper is playing out a rags-to-riches story with the Eagles, and he just reached another legendary status. Cooper was an FCS All-American at Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas. The school is a founding member of the Texas A&M University System and enrolled over 15,000 students in the fall of 2024.
Tucked in the middle of Fort Worth and Waco, the St. Louis native made a name for himself after he earned first-team Associated Press FCS All-America honors in his senior season. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound receiver is athletic and finished second in Division I in receiving yards with 1,450 (the second most in single-season school history) and sixth in touchdowns with 14 (the third most in single-season school history) in 2024. In 48 career games, Cooper accumulated 164 catches for 3,185 yards and 29 touchdowns, averaging 19.4 yards per catch.
Cooper's start in Philadelphia has been so impressive, he's left the Eagles one Heisman Trophy winner searching out highlights.
After Friday's preseason game, DeVonta Smith went onto YouTube to search for Darius Cooper's Tarelton State highlights.
"YouTube's got everything," Smith said.) "He's a freak of nature," "He's fun to watch."
Cooper has been a training camp standout and dominated the Bengals with six catches on seven targets for 82 yards and a touchdown. Another strong performance against the Browns could lock up a roster spot.

Former Super Bowl champion doesn't expect Philadelphia Eagles 'hangover' in 2025
The Super Bowl is every NFL team's goal heading into a new season, and 2025 will be the same as 31 teams try to chase down the Philadelphia Eagles as the reigning league champions. The Eagles boasted one of the top defensive units in 2024, and while one former Philadelphia star that recently retired won't be competing this season he still has massive expectations for his old squad. Brandon Graham was a two-time Super Bowl winner with the Birds after spending his entire career with the franchise, and recently joined the Exciting Whites podcast with Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean to share his thoughts on Philadelphia's chances of a repeat. The reality is it's very tough for any NFL team to win back-to-back championships, and the Eagles actually just prevented the Kansas City Chiefs from securing a three-peat last season after their Super Bowl LIX title. Eagles outbid an NFC West rival for John Metchie
Eagles outbid an NFC West rival for John Metchie Don't interpret what hasn't been said, and please don't assume what hasn't been written. Covering the Philadelphia Eagles' general manager, Howie Roseman, has been a fulfilling experience. His mastery of all things salary cap has provided tons of opportunities for storytelling. His drafts get better and better. Few experiences rival the adrenaline rush of another ingenious roster move, most of which seemingly come out of nowhere. Our main question is simple: Why do the general managers of other teams still answer the phone when they see this guy's name on their caller ID? If you haven't heard, Roseman has struck again. His latest target is none other than the Houston Texans. Howie Roseman outwits the San Francisco 49ers News travels fast around Eagles-centric circles, so we doubt many haven't heard the news. John Metchie is an Eagle now. Here are the details of the trade. Would it be an overstatement to say Howie Roseman fleeced another NFL team? Sure, Philadelphia swaps a fifth-rounder for a sixth, but landing Metchie by simply moving on from Harrison Bryant feels like a win, right? Buckle up, friends. That isn't even the best part of the deal. The rumor mill is churning. Various NFL sources, including Jordan Schultz, report Philadelphia competed with the San Francisco 49ers to land Metchie. We see how that turned out. Roseman's shrewdness may have kept a potential difference-maker out of the hands of another NFC contender. The NFC West feels like it's property of the Los Angeles Rams now, but that doesn't mean the 49ers won't make noise during the regular season. Time will tell if this forces them into action and doing their due diligence to land another offensive weapon for Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy, and company.
