Kempegowda Airport posts record profit for first time since inception
The Bangalore International Airport Authority (BIAL) held its board meeting on May 16, presided over by its Chairperson and Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, Shalini Rajneesh, a press statement said.
"The meeting marked a historic milestone as Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) reported a record profit for the first time since its inception, signifying a robust financial turnaround and a testament to the airport's strategic growth, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence," the statement added.
In addition to its strong financial performance, BLR Airport has earned multiple prestigious global recognitions in 2025, further cementing its position as a leader in sustainable and safe airport operations worldwide, it said.
According to the statement, BLR Airport became the first airport in Asia to achieve Level 5 Accreditation under ACI's Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, effective May 5, 2024.
This distinction celebrates an outstanding 95.6 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, with the airport achieving net-zero status (Scope 1 and 2) a full seven years ahead of its 2030 target, it said.
"In the environmental category, the airport also received the Silver Award in the ACI Green Airports Recognition 2025 under the 'Sustainable Energy at Airports' theme for the 15-38 million passenger category. This marks the fourth consecutive year that BLR Airport has been recognised for its sustainability leadership," it stated.

A BIAL spokesperson said, 'The dedicated pickup zones for Uber Black and Uber Comfort are a step forward in our vision to deliver seamless, high-quality experiences at every stage of travel.' KIA, which handled over 41.88 million passengers in FY 2024–25, is the busiest airport in south India, and the third largest in India. IndiGo begins work on new MRO facility at Kempegowda International Airport
Over 1,000 jobs and larger MRO footprint Advt By , ETInfra Domestic airline IndiGo has started construction of a new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport , with a groundbreaking ceremony held on facility, to be built on 31 acres of land, will have a capacity of up to 12 bays and will be able to handle both narrow and wide-body aircraft. IndiGo stated that the facility is expected to be fully operational by 2028, PTI said the new facility will generate employment for over 1,000 people, including engineers and technicians.'We are very excited as we commence the project to build this grand MRO facility in Bengaluru. This also strengthens our operational presence in Bengaluru, which is one of our largest bases with over 200 daily flights. This is also an important step towards shaping the future of Indian aviation by developing a holistic aviation ecosystem in the nation,' said IndiGo CEO Pieter airline currently operates MRO facilities in Delhi and Nagpur. The Bengaluru facility will be three times larger in combined capacity than the two existing ones, according to the a fleet of over 400 aircraft, IndiGo said the addition of this MRO unit will offer improved aircraft availability, increased cost efficiencies and faster turnaround times. The airline also noted that the facility would support the broader aerospace and defence ecosystem in project was announced in the presence of Karnataka government's Commissioner for Industries Gunjan Krishna, IndiGo's Pieter Elbers, and Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) CEO Hari Marar. IndiGo had signed a memorandum of understanding with BIAL for land allocation in May.
