Javelin thrower, Taiwan Athletics Open gold medallist Rohit Yadav: Neeraj bhai told me, focus on dreams not results

Javelin thrower Rohit Yadav's impressive heave of 74.42m notched up India's 16-medal finish at Taiwan Athletics Open on Sunday. Despite the victory, the two-time national champ is still hungry for more. 'Desh ke liye gold laya hoon, bahut khush hoon,' says the UP native adding, 'Lekin aur behtar kar sakta tha. Main 80m mark todna chahte tha, par iss baar nahin toh agli baar zaroor aur achha karunga. If you feel you have fallen short of your goal, then you must learn where you lacked and come back even stronger.'
Rohit adds that an athlete's success isn't just measured by a medal tally but also by the legacy they leave. That's exactly why he looks up to Olympian Neeraj Chopra. 'I first met Neeraj bhai in 2019 and every interaction with him since has been a motivator for me to get better,' he shares. 'His words to me — 'Focus on your dreams, not the results' — stayed with me. Unki consistency mujhe inspire karti hai and main bhi wahi consistency ke saath aage badhna chahta hoon,' he continues.

The javelin champ also reveals that his father Sabhajeet Yadav has been a source of inspiration. 'From childhood till now, I have been very close to my father. Woh sports ke liye passionate hain, aur unko hi dekhkar maine khelna shuru kara — talking with him helps me focus better. Before leaving for the competition, I discussed my mindset with him, and that helped me get in the right headspace,' he adds.

Not BCCI, This Cricket Board Set To Give Grand Farewell To Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma

Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not be a part of India's Test series against England, having retired. The players announced their retirement from Test cricket during the IPL 2025 season. Cricket Australia are reportedly planning a farewell for Kohli and Rohit during India's ODI tour Down Under. The notable absentees from India's squad, as they take on England in the upcoming five-match Test series, will be stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo announced their retirement from Test cricket recently, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. While the two were not given any farewell Tests in India itself, Cricket Australia (CA) is potentially planning to give them a grand send-off when India tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is later in 2025, given that it could be the last time both players play in Australia. Australia is bracing itself for a long summer of cricket, with the limited-overs India series set to be followed by the five-Test Ashes against England. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg has hinted at special preparations to maximise interest for cricket during that period, and one of them could be a special farewell for Kohli and Rohit. "For the first time in nearly two decades, Australian cricket will be playing international matches in every single capital city and territory across the entire country. There's a lot of work going into bespoke marketing plans for every game in every city," Greenberg told reporters. The popularity of cricket in Australia soared with India touring the country for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, which saw record numbers turn up for events such as the Boxing Day Test. "I think we saw real momentum last year on the back of the BGT series, some record-breaking ticket sales. And I anticipate that we'll see a number of sellouts across the summer, really starting in August and going through until March. This might be a summer like we've never seen before, just in terms of the amount of content," Greenberg said. "If you think about the quality of the players coming, particularly from India, this might be the last time we get to see Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our country. If that's the case - who knows, it might not be - but if it is, we want to make sure we give them a great send-off and acknowledge the incredible contribution they've made to international cricket," Greenberg added. Kohli and Rohit have announced their retirement from both the longest and shortest formats of the game, leaving them active in only ODI cricket, with the 2027 World Cup surely a final aim. The limited-overs series between India and Australia, scheduled to be held in October and November 2025, could well be the last time the two veterans play Down Under. Rohit is 38 years old, while Kohli will be 37 during the series.

Saurabh ends decade-long stint with UP, set to join Andhra

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh's seasoned left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar , 32, has decided to switch to Andhra Pradesh for the upcoming domestic season. In a statement on social media, Saurabh wrote: "I would like to express my profound gratitude for the great journey I had with UPCA over the past 10 years of First-Class Cricket. As I move on to new opportunities, I would like to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to UPCA for giving me the opportunities to lead and learn. " "As I venture into a new chapter of my cricketing journey with the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association, I would like to extend my acknowledgement to all who have been a part of my journey so far," he further added. Kumar, who was part of the India squad during last year's Test series against England (2024), as well as the overseas tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, has opted to move from Uttar Pradesh to Andhra ahead of the new season. He has played 79 first-class matches, taking 324 wickets and scoring 2,374 runs. His best performance came against Haryana in the 2018–19 season, where he picked up 14 wickets in a match. Speaking to TOI, the Baghpat lad said, "It was a good opportunity that knocked on my door, and I accepted it. I will play all three formats for Andhra Pradesh." Responding to UP's recent performances in domestic cricket, he said, "I don't think there's any major reason for us not winning trophies. We reached the semifinal in the Ranji Trophy, qualified in the one-day tournament, and in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we qualified twice in consecutive years. It's just bad luck that UP hasn't won a senior domestic title recently."
