40% students in class XII, XI, X fail in govt model school
Official sources said 107 of the 256 students who appeared for Class XII board exams failed, while 99 out of 240 Class XII students also did not clear the exams. The latest Class X results show that 36 out of 107 students failed as well. The overall pass percentage has plummeted from the 80s last year to 60% and below, with a total of 242 students failing this year. Last year, 82% passed in class XII, 87% in class X and 84% in class XI in the govt model school.
The average pass percentage in the district this year was 92.55% for class XII, 93.53% for class X and 87.8% for class XI.
Chief educational officer K Shanmugam said a detailed review would be conducted. "It's quite unusual for so many students to fail, especially since the situation appeared different before the exams. In the monthly reviews submitted by the school prior to the board exams, there was no indication that the pass percentage would drop so drastically.

We will revisit those reports on Monday to identify where the gaps lie," he said.
Parents of students who failed were left baffled. "My son was never a top student, but I at least expected him to pass. The school should have identified weaknesses and offered more special classes to help such students," said a parent of a Class XII student. School officials assured that they are taking steps to support the affected students.
"We are encouraging students who failed to apply for the re-exam on June 25, and attend special coaching classes we will be offering.
The headmaster is expected to visit a few homes to personally motivate the students," said a school official.
Meanwhile, Aranthangi MLA S T Ramachandran conducted an emergency inquiry with school officials and directed them to take immediate corrective measures. "This result is indefensible, and accountability is necessary. I told the teachers the buck must stop somewhere, and urged them to rework the 'model' of this model school, which has now gained a bad reputation. I am also closely coordinating efforts to ensure that these students clear their supplementary exams," he told TOI.

Defunct rainwater harvesting pits in Gurgaon's Sector 40 trigger waterlogging, dengue fears
Gurgaon: In Sector 40, rainwater isn't recharging the ground — it's inundating the parks. According to residents, MCG has failed to maintain or expand the rainwater harvesting systems in the area despite repeated waterlogging issues and increasing risk of mosquitoes breeding. Out of the sector's nearly 20 parks, only six have rainwater harvesting pits, and they too, lie defunct and clogged with silt, residents said. Instead of seeping into the ground, the rainwater accumulates in low-lying areas of the parks, forming pools that take four to five days to drain, they added. This not only wastes precious water but also becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other vector diseases," said RK Mahendru, RWA general secretary, Sector 40. In July, MCG issued a contract for cleaning rainwater harvesting pits in the area. But residents allege that the contractor abandoned work within just 15 days. "MCG also carried out surveys of parks and greenbelts and marked spots for new pits and upgrades. However, all of this remains on paper. Even the existing pits that were built more than a decade ago haven't been cleaned since," said Abhimanyu Yadav, RWA president, Sector 40. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Meanwhile, MCG chief engineer Vijay Dhaka said, "I will get the matter looked into and action will be taken accordingly." On Friendship Day, Akola Celebrates the Birthday of a Tree Named 'Jeevan' — A Touching Tribute to Nature and Green Bonds
1 2 3 4 Akola: In a heartfelt and unique Friendship Day celebration, environmentalists in Akola marked the birthday of a grand banyan tree, affectionately named 'Jeevan' (meaning "life"), at the city's Adarsh Park. "This isn't just any tree — it has become a symbol of rebirth, resilience, and the enduring bond between humans and nature," the environmentalists said. In 2016, a massive storm hit the Hirabai Plot area of Akola, uprooting a decades-old banyan tree. Refusing to let it die, a group of nature lovers led by Ajay Gawande decided to save it. They replanted it in Adarsh Park, giving it not only a new home but also a new name: 'Jeevan'. Since then, its birthday has been celebrated every Friendship Day — a gesture that symbolizes friendship between humanity and the environment. On Sunday, children tied friendship bands to the tree, a birthday cake was cut, and the park was decorated with vibrant balloons. Dozens of environmental enthusiasts gathered to express their affection for 'Jeevan', which now stands tall, offering shade, beauty, and a message of sustainability. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo "This tree is part of our lives. Environmentalist Rajani Ghadge, who was also present, added, "Trees are living beings too. When we befriend them, we begin to understand what true harmony with nature means." Jumbos uproot electric poles set up to bring power supply to village
1 2 Hazaribag: A herd of a dozen elephants destroyed 23 electricity poles at Simrajra village in Barkagaon block on Saturday night. These poles were meant to supply power to this remote area, which has been living in darkness since independence. A report in TOI on July 8 prompted Hazaribag deputy commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh to instruct the department concerned to set up around 250 poles on the foothills of seven hills from the main road to this village, which is approximately 6 km long. Overhead wires were also stretched to light up this village before Independence Day. However, on Saturday night, elephants destroyed 23 poles set up by the electricity department at Simrajra village, causing significant losses to the department. A junior engineer of the electricity department, Pradeep Prajapati, said that the work of re-erecting all the electricity poles has begun so that electricity can be provided to the village as soon as possible. The elephants have also damaged many houses in villages like Chora, Tongri, and Bartua. He said, "We will set up poles again on a war footing." Local mukhiya representative Mahendra Manjhi said that villagers were in celebratory mood and eagerly waiting for the power supply to start before elephants damaged poles.
