
Teenage boy, 14, among five people arrested after pedestrian killed crossing road in Crawshawbooth
Officers were called to Burnley Road, in Crawshawbooth, Lancashire, close to its junction with York Street, following reports a Toyota Hilux Invincible had hit a pedestrian.
Lancashire Police say it was a Volkswagen Golf "was in close proximity to the Toyota at the time" of the incident which happened just after 10pm on Friday, 8 August.
A man in his 50s - who was crossing the road at the time he was struck - died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at this time, police said.
An 18-year-old man, from Rawtenstall, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Two 19-year-old men, from Waterfoot, a 14-year-old boy, also from Waterfoot, and an 18-year-old man from Bacup have all been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while impaired through drink or drugs.
Police have appealed for witnesses and ask anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch with the force.
Sgt Bex Price, from our Road Policing Unit, said: 'This collision has resulted in a man losing his life and first and foremost my thoughts remain with his loved one at this devastating time.
'Work is now ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to the collision and as such I want to appeal for anyone in the area with CCTV or doorbell footage which captured anything which could assist the investigation team to come forward."

Man dies following one-vehicle collision on A77 in Ayr
The fatal crash took place on the A77 in Ayr near Monkton. It comes as police were called to a report of a one vehicle crash near to the Sandyford Roundabout at around 1.35pm. Police are now appealing for information following the incident this lunchtime. A man has died after a fatal crash on the A77 this lunchtime.
