Housing Minister should quit, BJP says and demands CBI probe into allotment ‘scam'
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Telkur insisted that Minister for Housing and Minority Welfare B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan take moral responsibility for the rampant corruption in the housing scheme and resign from the Cabinet or Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should immediately suspend him.
He said that the two-year rule of the Congress-led government in the State is marked by a series of scams and corruption, including irregularities in the Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation and MUDA, diversion of funds meant for Dalit welfare under Special Component Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan (SCP/TSP) funds.
'The Congress-led government is facing serious corruption allegations by its own legislators. We appreciate Mr. Patil for exposing the corruption in the housing scheme and MLA Raju Kage who has backed Mr. Patil's allegations,' he said.
'In allotment of houses, corruption begins when a staff arrives to capture GPS image of the allotted house. The gram panchayat president, Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs), MLAs of the respective taluks and the Housing Minister are involved in this corruption,' Mr.Telkur said.
Mr. Telkur demanded that the State government cancel the allotment list and re-allot houses to genuine beneficiaries by holding gram sabha meetings.
'Political stunt'
Another BJP leader Harshanand Guttedar, who is a former Zilla Panchayat vice-president and belongs to Aland taluk, addressing a press conference, said that MLA B.R. Patil's allegations against house allotment scheme exposes the Congress government's corruption. It is not that he has concern towards people, but (it is) a political stunt to gain mileage, Mr. Guttedar said.
'It is Mr. Patil's style of politics of vengeance. It is his way of expressing his disappointment over not being inducted into the State Cabinet. Mr. Patil is frustrated and he is on a mission to sink the Congress ship in the State,' Mr. Guttedar said.
The houses were allotted to beneficiaries in December 2024, Mr. Guttedar said and added that the alleged corruption took place under Mr. Patil's nose and asked why after being silent all these months, he has exposed it only now.

Bengaluru: Responding to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his 79th Independence Day address from the Red Fort, Karnataka BJP criticised the CM for it and said that he does not deserve to speak about the RSS or PM Modi. Karnataka BJP President, B.Y. Vijayendra stated on Saturday, "Standing under the shadow of the Congress, which still carries a slave mentality that insults the freedom struggle even today, you don't deserve to speak about the RSS or Prime Minister Narendra Modi." "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, you are not an original Congressman. You come from a political background that opposed the 'Emergency'. By standing today in defence of the Congress party, you are insulting the many great leaders of the 1970s who fought against the Emergency to safeguard democracy and uphold the true spirit of the freedom movement. Having joined Congress for selfish and power-driven politics, you have lost all moral right to speak about the Constitution and democracy," Vijayendra slammed. "Siddaramaiah, you called the mentioning of the RSS' contributions in the Independence Day speech an insult to the Constitution. But it was the Congress party during the Emergency that trampled upon the spirit of the Constitution, strangled democracy, and displayed authoritarianism. That is the biggest black mark in India's political history," he charged. Vijayendra further stated, "The RSS is not a political party. It is a patriotic organisation that was born for nation-building, has endured for a century, and works with the principles of service and equality. The dedication and sacrifice of countless RSS volunteers working to build a casteless society was even recognised by Mahatma Gandhi, whose words of appreciation are recorded in history." "During the China war, the RSS actively stood with the brave soldiers in service of the nation. Recognising this, then Prime Minister Nehru himself invited the RSS to participate in the Republic Day parade as a mark of appreciation for its service," he pointed out. "With noble ideals, goals, and objectives, the RSS has expanded its activities beyond India's borders, representing Indian values globally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi rightly mentioned the achievements and service of the RSS in his Independence Day address, praising the organisation for carrying forward the purpose of the freedom struggle. "This is both timely and reflective of the sentiments of more than a billion Indians. It is surprising why the Congress party and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah are so disturbed by this," he questioned. "The Congress was originally organized under that name to spread the freedom movement across the country. After Independence, the Congress name should have been dissolved and not retained as a political party. "Many freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi himself, had suggested this. Rahul to launch 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar on August 17
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will on Sunday (August 17, 2025) launch a yatra to highlight the alleged assault on the people's right to vote through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, a senior party leader said on Saturday (August 16, 2025). Addressing a press conference in Patna, former state Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh said Mr. Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is likely to be in the State for over a fortnight till the 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' concludes with a rally in Patna on September 1. 'Tomorrow, Mr. Gandhi will launch the yatra from Sasaram. All the necessary permission has been obtained from the authorities concerned. The yatra will build a tempo in favour of the INDIA bloc ahead of the assembly polls,' the Rajya Sabha MP said. Replying to a query, he said Mr. Gandhi was likely to 'stay in Bihar for nearly 15 days' to lead the yatra, which will cover '25 districts of the State' with three 'break days' on August 20, 25 and 31. 'At Sasaram, Rahul Gandhi is likely to be joined by Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, besides our other alliance partners, including three Left parties. Who Will Be Next Vice President? A Look At BJP's Probable Candidates
With less than a month to go for the Vice Presidential poll, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun work in full swing to finalise its nominee and started discussions on its potential picks that include Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. According to sources, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Sikkim Governor Om Mathur, and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha are also among the probable candidates for the election that is scheduled to be held on September 9. The candidature of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue Seshadri Chari is also under discussion, the sources said. Besides, current Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh is being considered as a nominee, taking into consideration the upcoming Bihar elections, even though BJP leaders earlier made it clear that the next Vice President will be from their party and someone who is strongly associated with the ideology of the party and the RSS. Several governors and lieutenant governors met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the last one month, the sources added. The Vice Presidential poll was necessitated following the surprise resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21, citing health reasons. Sources, however, hinted at a deeper unease, possibly even a breakdown of trust between him and the Centre that he once strongly defended. His term was to end in August 2027. The BJP is treading cautiously after Mr Dhankhar's sudden exit, as it does want a repeat of the alleged mistrust that was created between the party and the former Vice President over the past year. The Vice President may not have much powers but is in-charge of overseeing and taking decisions related to proceedings in the Rajya Sabha. One of the major reasons behind Mr Dhankhar's resignation was that he reportedly started taking arbitrary decisions without keeping the government in the loop. The tipping point, the sources said, came when Mr Dhankhar refused to align with the government's stand on the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has authorised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president J P Nadda to pick the ruling bloc's candidate. The BJP, the sources said, is planning a mega meeting of its top leaders and closest allies next week, in a major show of strength, despite the NDA having a comfortable edge in the vice presidential election. All NDA MPs have been called for a Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday, when the second phase of the Monsoon Session resumes. Prime Minister Modi is likely to address the lawmakers in the Parliament auditorium, the sources added. The vice president is elected by the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, with nominated members of the Upper House also eligible to vote. According to constitutional provisions, in case of a mid-term poll, the incumbent gets a full five-year term. A person cannot be elected as the vice president unless he is a citizen of India, has completed 35 years of age and is qualified for election as a member of Rajya Sabha. A person is also not eligible if he holds any office of profit under the government of India or a state government or any subordinate local authority.
