Singapore officers visit Media Prima to learn about news operations
The group led by Government Communications chief, Foo Kok Jwee, was welcomed at Balai Berita, Bangsar by Media Prima News and Current Affairs Division Group Managing Editor Jasbant Singh and senior editors from its print and broadcast teams.
The visit began with a dialogue session titled "Media Players in Malaysia: Media Prima" at the Samad Meeting Room, where Singapore officers engaged with senior Media Prima editors on Malaysia's media landscape, editorial strategies and public communications.
Following the dialogue, the delegation was given a tour of Media Prima's television and print facilities, including the Command Centres of NCA TVN and NSTP, as well as a visit to the production studios.
They were also introduced to the newsroom operations of the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) comprising the New Straits Times, Berita Harian, and Harian Metro where they gained insights into the editorial processes and integration across platforms.
The delegation included representatives from the Singapore Public Service and the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore.
Present from Media Prima were group editor of Berita Harian Zulkifli Jalil, deputy group editors Thillinadan Muniandy (Berita Harian) and Sharanjit Singh (NST) and executive editor of Harian Metro Muhamad Safar Ahmad.
The ACE programme is a training initiative for public service officers involved in strategic communications and public engagement across the Singapore government.

Former Skudai assemblyman welcomes second RTS proposal
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau has welcomed the Johor government's proposal to establish a second Rapid Transit System (RTS) to connect Tuas in Singapore and Iskandar Puteri in Johor. The proposal was raised by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during his meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at The Istana in Singapore on Thursday. The second RTS, he said, would help speed up the development of Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone by integrating the connectivity between the two countries. The former DAP Johor chairman also praised Onn Hafiz's openness in listening to opinions from the grounds and his down-to-earth approach in resolving the hardships faced by the ordinary Johoreans. Dr Boo said back in February, he issued a press statement pertaining to the same issue, suggesting a second RTS after having received input from the grassroots and the local guilds' leaders. "I am delighted that the Johor government has taken the suggestion into consideration and officially proposed it to the Singaporean government. "It was hoped that Putrajaya and the Singaporean government would consider the proposal seriously. It would be beneficial to not only Johoreans but also to the development of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone." Dubbed RTS2, the proposed link, if realised, follows a similar system along the Causeway that is nearing completion and will be part of a broader plan to improve mobility and investment synergy between the two economies. (Link: ) Dr Boo said he does not oppose the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) projects, but it requires more in-depth due diligence studies as it involves an enormous amount of investments which is beyond Malaysia's financial capacity at the moment. "Nonetheless, it could be reconsidered when Malaysia's financial standings would have improved and the geopolitical environment is more conducive for such a mega project, considering the strategic position of the Johor-Singapore Economic Zone," he said, adding that the policy makers would have to gauge as to whether the geopolitical factors are favourable for such a mega project. He added that the feasibility and demands for HSR could be better reassessed after the double-track Electronic Train System is in full operation and the cost-effectiveness and economic benefits of the HSR could be better reassured.

'Shameless!' — Netizens slam S'porean who asked why M'sians won't share RON95 subsidy
WITH RON95 petrol expected to drop to RM1.99 per litre soon, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made it clear: the subsidy is strictly for Malaysians. He stressed that foreigners, including Singaporeans, will have to pay the market price — which could go up to RM2.50 per litre — because only Malaysians are taxpayers and should benefit from the government's subsidy initiatives. In return we share other things. 'Isn't this called the kampung spirit?' he asked. The comment sparked a flurry of responses from both sides of the Causeway. One netizen called markkhng commented: 'I'm Singaporean and I'm embarrassed by this question. It's their oil, their national product, when it's convenient for you only then you pull out 'kampung spirit'.' 'I'm a Singaporean and am against Singaporean and other nationalities buying RON95 petrol. The Malaysia government susidised it for the Malaysian citizens. Get this right: This is the Malaysians' social benefit,' opined. 'Glad to see so many decent comments from Singaporeans. Many know that it's almost (crime) and fuelling up with RON95 here is akin to stealing our dwindling subsidies. We are not as rich as our neighbours.
