'Save me': Man recounts harrowing 90 minutes as girl, set ablaze, knocked on his door; calls for justice
"
A 15-year-old girl, allegedly set on fire by three masked men in Odisha's Puri district, was transferred to AIIMS New Delhi, where she remains in stable condition with 70-75%burn injuries.
The class 9 dropout was walking to a relative's home around 8.30am Saturday when she was reportedly intercepted near a river embankment, rendered unconscious by a chemical-lacedcloth, and doused with kerosene before being set ablaze.
Screaming for help, she fled to a nearby house, where Dukshishyam Senapati extinguished the flames and gave her fresh clothes.
'Girl was on fire and screaming in pain'
Recalling the harrowing moment, Senapati said that when he answered his door, he was stunned to find the girl engulfed in flames and crying in agony, as he later explained to DGP YB Khurania during the official's site visit.
"It was around 8.30 am when the girl came to my house, screaming. With the help of my wife, I doused the fire and gave her water as she was very thirsty.

Later, the women of my family changed her clothes," he said.
Upon questioning, the girl informed Senapati that three unidentified men had set her ablaze. She explained being abducted by motorcycle-riding assailants whilst returning from meeting a friend.
"She said she was walking back home after meeting a friend when she was picked up by three men who arrived on motorcycles. The faces of these men were half-covered, and they took her to a place near the Bhargavi riverbank.
She could not tell their names. She could only say that they covered her face with a handkerchief and poured some substance before setting her on fire," he said.
Senapati noticed that although the girl mentioned being bound during the abduction, her hands were free when she arrived. After learning her father's details, he contacted her family. The large crowd that gathered prevented further conversation with the victim.
Despite searching the area, Senapati couldn't locate the perpetrators. He explained that the attackers fled after setting her alight, presumably expecting her to perish. However, the girl managed to escape and reach his house.
Due to delayed ambulance response, they resorted to an auto rickshaw for hospital transport. The girl remained at his residence for approximately 90 minutes.
The incident has created fear in the village, particularly among children who are now afraid to venture out alone. Senapati urged swift arrest of the culprits.

Shah described the Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 civilians were killed, as an act of "barbarism" and extended his condolences to the victims' families. Live Events 'Firstly, the cold-blooded murder of innocent civilians in Pahalgam, who were killed with barbarism — I condemn that attack. To the surviving family members of the victims, I extend my heartfelt condolences,' he said. India avenges Pahalgam horror: Security forces kill all 3 terrorists behind attack, confirms Amit Shah How India identified the terrorists Shah said that security forces went to great lengths to establish that the three terrorists killed on July 28 were the same individuals who carried out the Pahalgam attack. Their identities were confirmed as Suleman, Afghan, and Jibran. 'Security forces went to great extent to establish that identity of terrorists was same as those responsible for Pahalgam attack,' Shah said. Notably, the government possessed even more granular evidence. 'All three terrorists were Pakistani and we have their voter ID numbers as well. The chocolates recovered from them were also made in Pak,' he told the House. Arrests and identification Soon after the April 22 attack, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other security agencies began making arrests of those believed to have assisted the terrorists. Individuals who sheltered or fed the attackers were either arrested or detained. These individuals later played a key role in confirming the terrorists' identities. 'NIA had already arrested those who gave them shelter. Those who fed them were detained. When the terrorists' dead bodies reached Srinagar, they were identified as the three people who carried out the terror attack in Pahalgam,' Shah said. 'The people who used to supply food to them were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were kept detained by our agencies,' he added. Forensic confirmation Indian agencies also relied heavily on forensic evidence to establish the link between the dead terrorists and the Pahalgam attack. The cartridges recovered from the April 22 attack site had already undergone analysis. On July 28, after the terrorists were killed, their rifles were recovered and sent for ballistic comparison. 'The FSL report of the cartridges from the terror attack was already ready... Yesterday, the rifles of the three terrorists were seized and matched with the FSL reports,' Shah said. Further confirmatory tests were conducted at a lab in Chandigarh, and the ballistic match was confirmed. 'Further tests were carried out in Chandigarh yesterday, after that it was confirmed that these three were those who carried out the terror attack,' he said.

Ranchi/Deoghar, Jul 29 (PTI) At least six Kanwariyas were killed and 24 others injured on Tuesday after a collision took place between a bus with passengers on board and a truck, loaded with cooking gas cylinders, in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, officials said. The accident occurred around 5.30 am near the Jamuniya forest under the Mohanpur Police Station limits when the bus collided with the commercial vehicle, they said. 'Six devotees were killed and 24 others injured in the accident at Jamuniya Chowk in Deoghar. Eight of the 24 injured have been shifted to AIIMS, Deoghar, while the remaining are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital," Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra said. The bus was severely damaged, he added. However, MP Nishikant Dubey, in a post on X, claimed that 18 Kanwariyas lost their lives in the accident. 'Eighteen devotees have died in a bus-truck accident during the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan in Deoghar in my Lok Sabha constituency. May Baba Baidyanath Ji give strength to their families to bear the loss," he posted on X. However, the police confirmed that only six people lost their lives, while the condition of two others is serious. Kanwariyas are devotees of Lord Shiva. At least 24 Kanwariyas were injured in the accident and taken to various hospitals and nearby primary health centres, including the Saraiyahat PHC in Dumka, another officer said. Who is Holly? Vivek Ramaswamy shares update on Cincinnati street brawl victim; blames 'leftist' safety policies
Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on Monday condemned a violent street brawl in downtown Cincinnati that went viral over the weekend, using the incident to call out what he described as failed public safety policies in Democrat-led cities. Sharing a post on X, Ramaswamy said he had spoken with one of the victims of the assault, a woman named Holly, whom he described as a single working mother. He criticised the lack of law enforcement presence during the Friday night incident. "It's unconscionable that there were no police present in that area of Cincinnati on a Friday night, or even an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Hard-working Americans shouldn't have to worry for their safety when they have a good time in our cities," he wrote on X. He also noted that Holly told him no local or state officials had reached out to her as of Monday afternoon, aside from one police detective. "Leftists like to lecture about 'systemic injustice' while thugs turn our turn cities into war zones. I'm done with their excuses," he added. Promising a tougher approach to crime if elected in 2026, Ramaswamy vowed, "As governor, I'll make sure they're behind bars, not running wild. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Our cops will have the green light to restore order—no apologies. Holly appreciates the kind words and prayers from patriots across the country, and hopes that the publicity around her story ensures that local & state leaders clean up our failing cities." Who is Holly? The violent brawl occurred early Saturday morning and was captured in disturbing footage that quickly spread online. The video shows a man being chased into the street, shoved to the ground, and beaten by a crowd. One individual body-slams him while others kick and stomp him. As the man tries to get up, a woman, later identified as Holly rushes to help, only to be punched twice in the face. She collapses to the pavement, hitting her head and bleeding from the mouth as the crowd continues to cheer. The clip has sparked outrage and renewed calls for better safety and policing in urban areas. Ramaswamy said Holly appreciated the support she received from people across the country and hopes the incident prompts local leaders to take serious action. Cincinnati Police chief Teresa Theetge announced on Monday that five people have been charged in connection with a violent street fight that broke out over the weekend in downtown Cincinnati. While the names of those charged have not been made public, Theetge said the department is using every available investigative method. Theetge expressed frustration over the lack of immediate public response, revealing that despite around 100 people being present, either involved in or watching the violence, with some even filming it, only one person called the police. Vice President JD Vance was among those who criticised the attack, saying he was appalled by footage showing "a grown man who sucker punched a middle-aged woman." "That person ought to go to jail for a very long time — and frankly, he's lucky there weren't some better people around because they would've handled it themselves," Vance said. Vance described the attackers as a "mob of lawless thugs" and called for harsh punishment. He said: "What I saw, and I haven't seen the full context, but what I saw is a mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person. The only way to destroy that street violence is to take the thugs who engaged in that violence and throw their asses in prison." Other leaders, including Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, also condemned the violence, calling for justice and stronger community responsibility.
