Itanagar: Mountaineer Kabak Yano from Arunachal Pradesh has summited Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and Europe, standing 18,510 feet above sea level.
Yano successfully reached the summit on Saturday at 5.20am (Russian time).
Mount Elbrus, located in the Caucasus Mountains of southwestern Russia near the Georgian border, is a dormant stratovolcano.
It is the highest peak in Europe and also the highest volcano in Eurasia. Elbrus ranks among the 10 most prominent peaks in the world. Climbing Elbrus is considered one of the significant milestones of the Seven Summits challenge, which involves scaling the tallest mountain on each continent.
Governor KT Parnaik has congratulated Yano for her achievement. Parnaik, who had earlier flagged off Yano for her Seven Summits challenge on July 28, expressed pride in her determination that she will complete the mission successfully.
On Aug 5, Yano climbed Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895 metre) in Tanzania.
"Her extraordinary feat reflects the true 'Spirit of Arunachal' and will serve as a powerful source of inspiration, particularly for young girls, to embrace challenges with courage and resilience," Parnaik said.

Rain, returning flock choke GST road
Chennai: Rain and returning weekend travellers brought traffic to a grinding halt on GST Road and adjoining highways on Sunday evening, with vehicles crawling bumper to bumper from Chengalpet to Tambaram. With the long Independence Day weekend drawing to a close, thousands who travelled to their hometowns converged on the city at the same time. Traffic snarls were reported at several bottlenecks, including Perungalathur, Vandalur, Kattankulathur, and Singaperumal Koil, where rainwater logging slowed down vehicle movement further. Vehicles lined up for over a kilometre at Paranur toll plaza in Chengalpet, with all lanes choked. "I started from Maduranthakam early, but I ended up spending more than four hours in traffic. It was a nightmare," said Ananthakrishnan, a private firm employee, who got stuck near the Perungalathur bridge. "Traffic diversions for heavy vehicles have been put in place at SP Koil (main diversion), Guduvanchery, ORR and Zero Point for all Chennai-bound vehicles," said Samai Singh Meena, deputy commissioner of police, traffic, Tambaram You Can Also Check: Chennai AQI | Weather in Chennai | Bank Holidays in Chennai | Public Holidays in Chennai | Gold Rates Today in Chennai | Silver Rates Today in Chennai Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Trimbakeshwar braces for rush on last Shravan Somvar
Nashik: In anticipation of a huge rush of devotees on the last Shravan Somvar, strict bandobast will be in place in Trimbakeshwar on Monday. Nearly two lakh devotees thronged Trimbakeshwar on Aug 11, the third Shravan Somvar. Additional SP Aditya Mirkhelkar said: "There has been a huge rush of devotees over Friday and Sunday. It is expected on Monday, though not like the third Shravan Somvar." "We have deployed 300 policemen and another 500 home guards for security," he added. Police officers said the flow of devotees can be unpredictable. An officer said: "Since it is the last Shravan Somvar, the rush can increase, or it could also be the other way round as a large number of devotees arrived in Trimbakeshwar over Friday and Sunday due to the extended weekend following the national holiday on account of Independence Day." In Nashik city, roads that will be closed for motor vehicles are from Malegaon Stand to Kapaleshwar temple, Khandve Hall to Kapaleshwar temple, Sardar Chowk to Kapaleshwar temple, and Dhikle Library to Kapaleshwar temple from 6am to 10pm considering the rush at the Kapaleshwar temple, Ramkund, and Gangaghat areas. Scuffle between devotees & Trimbak temple security staff over darshan
Nashik: A scuffle broke out between pilgrims and security personnel of the Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik district on Saturday after 'mukh darshan' at the temple — another way for the pilgrims to enter the campus without disturbing regular ' darshan ' — was abruptly halted. The Trimbakeshwar temple saw a large number of pilgrims during the month of Shravan, thanks to the three-day holiday since Aug 15. Although the temple is open for 14 hours daily, the maximum number of people who can take the darshan does not exceed 20,000. "There was a huge rush in the town on Friday and Saturday and, therefore, the management decided to open the 'mukh darshan' facility that does not allow the pilgrims inside the main temple but only to enter the premises, take the darshan from a distance without disturbing the regular queues of pilgrims, and exit," said Kailas Ghule, one of the temple trustees. Due to the large crowd, the management's security staff, along with the police, employed a 'hold and release' method to prevent overcrowding within the premises. "However, as the number of pilgrims attempting to enter the premises increased, the management decided to suspend the system and closed the door. Some of the pilgrims started kicking the door and even charged at the management officials who tried to pacify them, after which they were whisked away by the police and the security staff of the temple," a police officer said. "No complaint has been filed in the case by anybody," the police added. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
