Denis Bouanga's late PK goal rallies LAFC to 2-2 draw with Fire
Bouanga notched his 14th goal of the season for LAFC (10-6-7) after subbing in for Mathieu Choinière in the 61st minute. The PK was awarded after Son Heung-Min — in his debut with the club — was fouled by defender Carlos Terán.
Chicago (10-9-6) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on Terán's first goal this season. Philip Zinckernagel collected an assist on the score. Terán has totaled one goal in five straight campaigns.
LAFC pulled even in the 19th minute on a goal by defender Ryan Hollingshead — his second. Nineteen-year-old midfielder David Martínez picked up his first assist this season after notching two in 17 appearances last year.
The Fire took a 2-1 lead in the 70th minute on a goal by Jonathan Bamba — his fourth in his first season in the league. Zinckernagel snagged another assist — his 13th — and Brian Gutiérrez earned his second.
It was the first of three straight home matches in Bridgeview for the Fire whose home these days is Soldier Field. Chicago is 102-55-72 in regular-season play at SeatGeek.
Chris Brady saved four shots for Chicago.
Hugo Lloris totaled one save for LAFC.
It was the third all-time matchup between the clubs with Chicago beating LAFC 3-1 in Bridgeview in 2018 before playing to a 0-0 draw in Los Angeles in 2019.
Chicago began the day in possession of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference as it tries to make the postseason for the first time since 2017.
LAFC entered the day sixth in the Western Conference, but the club has at least two matches in hand on all five teams above it.
LAFC stays on the road to play the New England Revolution on Saturday. The Fire will host St. Louis City on Saturday.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears signed backup quarterback Tyson Bagent to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season on Wednesday. Chicago also signed veteran running back Royce Freeman and placed running back Deion Hankins on injured reserve. Bagent played in four games and threw two passes last season with Caleb Williams starting every game after being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick. But he's made a big impression over two seasons. Undrafted in 2023 following a record-setting career at Division II powerhouse Shepherd University, Bagent played in five games and made four starts while leading Chicago to two wins with Justin Fields injured. He completed 66% of his passes for 859 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions. 'I've really been blown away by his approach from the spring to start of camp to where we are now,' coach Ben Johnson said. 'He does a tremendous job knowing what to do, how to do it and getting it done. So I don't think you can have enough talent in that room. I think we actually have one of the best rooms in the NFL, certainly that I've been around in my career from top to bottom.' Bagent, who grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia, set what was the NCAA's all-division mark with 159 career touchdown passes, and finished with more completions (1,400) and yards passing (17,034) than any other Division II quarterback. In 2021, Bagent won the Harlon Hill Trophy, Division II's equivalent of the Heisman. Ukrainian basketball fan, 14, wins front-row look at Winnipeg Sea Bears action
A teenage basketball fan who came to Manitoba from Ukraine is seeing his hoop dreams come to fruition as the winner of a Winnipeg Sea Bears prize pack that includes tickets to the CEBL's Western Conference final on Friday. Vlad Kovalenko, 14, was nominated for the prize by a counsellor at a local youth group, who said he's become a role model to many of the younger kids. 'Vlad came here a couple years ago and just meeting him and his family was really inspirational for me,' Nikolas Barrett of the Ukrainian Youth Association told 680 CJOB's The Start. 'We're helping newcomers and people in the Ukrainian community have a sense of family, and (Vlad) comes pretty much every single week — the kids look up to him already. 'Being able to have him there … it helps us. They want to talk to someone their age. Vlad's just a really good kid and helps out as much as he can all the time.'
