After back-to-back finishes on the regional scene, he picked up a win on Dana White's Contender Series, and then finished Lucas Alexander in his February debut. ... Naimov (12-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) looks to keep the momentum going after a unanimous decision over Kaan Ofli in February, which was a successful rebound from his first setback in the UFC.

Kicking off the main card in Joe Silva-like fashion is a featherweight attraction between Muhammad Naimov and Bogdan Grad.
Naimov's resume is a deceiving one when you factor in everything from his opportunistic style to his favorable fortunes with fouls and injuries alike. And though I suspect that Naimov's not far from being audited again, I don't think it comes here.
Grad, who looks like a muscled-up version of Edward Furlong in "American History X," can make fights ugly and work his way back into them if he's allowed to stick around. However, Grad also has some porous striking defense to go along with some plodding footwork and linear advances that I see running him right into a Naimov counter hook.
The pick is Naimov by knockout in Round 2.

When he face a real middleweight, a really heavy middleweight, he's going to have some problems. He's going to look boring. All the other fights, he was in exciting fights because the guys couldn't handle him. Even (Robert) Whittaker. "Remember my fight against (Yoel) Romero? Romero is a high-level wrestler and very good also. He couldn't put me down. He tried four or five times, he (took me down) once at the end of the second round, like 10 seconds left to finish, but he couldn't keep me there. The same when I fight Khamzat. The same is going to happen. He could not hold me down. Even if he takes me down, I don't think I'm going to stay on my feet the whole time against him. I think he can put me down, but he will not keep me there." Costa, who recently returned to the win column by defeating Roman Kopylov at UFC 318, had a final message for Chimaev. "Motherf*cker, look, you know who I am. I'm coming for you," Costa said. "You can hide as much as you want. I know how to fight you. You're going to rush as you always do. You're going to do your sh*t thing. You're going to shoot on my legs. I know that, I expect that, I'm ready for that, but then guess what? We have five rounds. "I'm going to (make) you pay for every time you shoot on my legs. That's what my coach Eric (Albaraccin) taught me to do. I'm going to make you pay. Then when we're back on the feet, I'm going to hurt you so badly you want to give up, but I will not let you give up. I will hurt you until the referee stops the f*cking fight. I'm coming for you. Gable Steveson sets date for his MMA debut originally appeared on The Sporting News For Gable Steveson, the next mountain to try and climb and conquer will see him enter the cage. The former NCAA Division I wrestling national champion has signed on the dotted line to make his mixed martial arts debut. Steveson will square off with Braden Peterson on September 12 at Legacy Fighting Alliance 217. The bout, confirmed by ESPN, will see him compete in Minnesota from Mystic Lake Casino, with the card streaming live on UFC Fight Pass. He finished as a five-time All-American, twice winning the Dan Hodge Trophy, which goes to the top wrestler. During his break, he signed with the WWE while also attempting to make the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. Along with spending time with former UFC champion Jon Jones, Steveson trains out of the Syndicate MMA gym in Las Vegas. Steveson's opponent, Peterson, owns a 1-0 record and competes out of Montana. Sean O'Malley clarifies 'no plans as of now' to retire, targets December return
Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley cleared the air surrounding his comments on possibly retiring early. In a recent episode of his "TimboSugarShow" podcast, O'Malley said it's possible he might never fight again. Tongue in cheek? Perhaps. O'Malley, 30, is coming off back-to-back title losses to bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili, most recently a submission setback at UFC 316 in June. O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) clarified that he fully intends to fight again. "I mean, you just never know, life comes at you fast," O'Malley told MMA Junkie. "There's no plans as of now to stop fighting, but just putting life into perspective, you never know what's going to happen. Every time I get on the mats and I'm training, I'm grateful for that session." O'Malley competed twice in 2024 and hopes to mirror that activity this year. "I'd like to fight again (in) November, December," O'Malley said. "Get one more in by the end of the year. I'm going to go talk with the UFC in two weeks. I'm going to sit down with Hunter (Campbell), chat with him, and see where their head's at and go from there." Having fought in Las Vegas 10 times throughout his UFC tenure, O'Malley would prefer the final pay-per-view of the year over November at Madison Square Garden. "Someday, maybe," O'Malley said of fighting in New York. "I'm not too set on it. Like, I'd rather fight – I don't know, we'll see. Either one. If it were up to me, I'd probably pick Vegas, but it ain't up to me. It's up to the UFC."
