New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers entered the league with ludicrous expectations. With a natural comparison to Odell Beckham Jr., an argument to be the best receiver in a historic pass-catching class, and the burden of elevating a broken offense, the spotlight was instantly on the No. 6 pick.

Then he outperformed virtually every projection.
In his first month as a pro, he logged two 100-yard games. He missed two games with a concussion before returning to his massive role in the passing game.
By season's end, Nabers received the second most targets in the sport (170), behind only Cincinnati Bengals dynamo Ja'Marr Chase, who won the receiving triple crown.
Subsequently, Nabers is a consensus top-10 receiver, presumably tasked with repeating his 2024 performance before being viewed as the same caliber of receiver as Chase and fellow LSU icon Justin Jefferson. However, there's a real argument that Nabers is already one of the five best receivers in the sport, and the Giants star is poised to improve in 2025.

The biggest piece of that puzzle is, of course, an upgrade under center. Veteran Russell Wilson isn't going to take home any hardware at the NFL Honors in February, but the jump from bad to average can be almost as significant as the leap from average to great.
Wilson has an effective deep ball and does his best work while distributing to the perimeter. Both of those marks mesh well with Nabers' usage, and the quarterback's early praise is a good sign for their budding connection.
Moreover, Nabers had historic usage for a rookie receiver. He was viewed as an elite receiver by head coach Brian Daboll, and each of New York's passers seemed to agree. Better quarterbacking might lend itself to others receiving more targets. But Nabers is set to see far more efficient targets in his second season, allowing him to improve upon his 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns.
Nabers doesn't have to see as many targets as last season to produce as much as he did in Year 1. Yet, Daboll's willingness to funnel targets to him is emblematic of Nabers' talent and the trust he's earned.

There's no reason why that's going away any time soon. And as the Giants offense improves and there are more opportunities to score, there will be plentiful reasons to view Nabers for what he is—one of the best players in the sport.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder won their first NBA title with a heavy dose of an old standby –- their stingy defense. The Thunder, who led the league in defensive rating in the regular season and the playoffs, turned in another gem in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, a 103-91 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night. Oklahoma City held the Pacers to 41.4% shooting in the deciding game, far below the 48.4% Indiana shot in the playoffs overall. The Thunder forced 21 turnovers and blocked eight shots. 'You have to really grind it out,' Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. 'It's an endurance race. You have to be able to win in the mud. You have to be able to win ugly, have to be able to gut it out. That's what we did. The team did an unbelievable job of that.' The defensive effort, combined with another strong offensive performance by Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, put Oklahoma City over the top. The Thunder became the youngest NBA champions since the 1976-77 Portland Trail Blazers, with an average age of 25.68 years. 'It's one of the biggest moments in city history,' Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said. 'We've achieved sports immortality, and that will open doors in our community far beyond basketball for years, decades to come. It's a very, very special day we can build upon forever.' Chet Holmgren led the way with five blocks, the most by a player in an NBA Finals Game 7 since blocks were first recorded in the 1973-74 season. 'Honestly, I never really play for records,' the 7-foot-1 forward said. 'I never play for stats. All that will be forgotten. But us winning is forever. It's immortal. I'm just so happy we were able to do that together as a team.' Thunder guards Lu Dort, Alex Caruso and Cason Wallace each had three steals. Indiana played most of the game without guard Tyrese Haliburton, who suffered a lower right leg injury in the first quarter. Bennedict Mathurin did his best to help the Pacers stay in the game with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Another spectacular effort by veteran TJ McConnell prevented Oklahoma City's swarming defense from being even more dominant. 'Their pressure can really get to you, but I was just trying to be aggressive and had some uncharacteristic turnovers, but that happens,' McConnell said. 'Just proud of the fight. We fought to the end. Credit to OKC. They are just really good.' Pascal Siakam, who had caused problems for the Thunder throughout the series, was held to 16 points on 5-for-13 shooting. Dort, an All-Defense first-team selection, gave Indiana credit for hanging tough. 'I mean, they're a great team,' he said. 'They've got great players. Kelvin Beachum says there is no room for excuses for the Cardinals in 2025. They have the talent and now have to perform. Entering the 2025 season, the Arizona Cardinals find themselves in a critical moment. Head coach Jonathan Gannon led a competitive and scrappy four-win team in 2023. In 2024, after being atop the NFC West last in the season, they faded and finished with an eight-win season. This is the year they should take the next step and make the postseason. Fans feel it is the year. Coaches feel it is the year. Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum, entering his 14th NFL season and sixth with the Cardinals, didn't shy away from the topic. Appearing on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM during minicamp, he didn't shy away from what many would be afraid to say, calling it "the elephant in the room." "We've got to get things done here this year, and that's just the nature of the NFL," he said. "This is a performance-based business. This is year three of this regime. Playoffs are long overdue in some regards, and we gotta find a way." Beachum said it is something players need to be on board about. "You've got to talk about it, he said. "You can't be like, 'oh, we don't have this piece. We don't have this piece. We lack in here.' No, no, it is time out for all those things. "What is important is putting ourselves in a position to clock a ticket to be in the dance and then see what happens from there." He believes the Cardinals have the team to be able to do that this year, and he praised what general manager Monti Ossenfort did in the offseason, calling it "a superb job." "What about the offensive line? That box is checked. Well, what about the quarterback? Box is checked. What about the running back? Box is checked. Receivers, box is checked. DBs, box is checked. And then you spent a ton of money on the defensive line, and you drafted defensive line and you drafted corners. So like, what are we talking about?" He said the Cardinals can't use excuses for potential needs, whether it is at linebacker or a "somebody to take the top off" at receiver. "We've got to find a way to get it done. We've got to find a way to put ourselves in playoff contention." Beachum understands the urgency the team must have. He is entering his 14th season. He doesn't know how many seasons he has left.
