Tottenham are the most entertaining team in the 92 according to data... but which Premier League new boys are the most BORING? And where do Man United rank?

Daily Mail23-04-2025

As the season draws to a close, there will be some fans reflecting on a memorable year for their club, while others may be ruing missed opportunities or simply regretting another disappointing campaign.
But how exciting has the action been? Well, Mail Sport has you covered as we've crunched the numbers to see which teams have been involved in the most entertaining games and on the other hand, the most boring.
There is no exact science to this as teams with an impressively strong defence may have been penalised unfairly, while others who have endured dismal campaigns and conceded a bucket load of goals have been measured as more interesting sides to watch.
Given those in the EFL have played more matches than their Premier League counterparts, the data has been compiled by measuring the amount of cumulative goals (for and against) that each of the 92 teams have been involved in, before dividing that by the number of games played.
And, despite their promotion back to the top flight, Burnley have been measured as 'the most boring team' in the 92.
The Clarets have scored 61 goals this season, the fifth highest in the division, but it is their remarkable defensive record which stands out.
Scott Parker's side have conceded just 15 goals in 44 games and keeper James Trafford, who has been nominated for the Championship Player of the Season, has racked up an astonishing 28 clean sheets.
But with a cumulative goal tally of 76, Burnley's record of 1.73 per game is the lowest of any team in the 92.
The rest of the top five most boring teams in the 92 are Wigan (1.77 goals per game), Gillingham (1.91), AFC Wimbledon (2) and Stevenage (2.02).
The most boring Premier League team is Everton, who have an average of 2.24 goals in every game they're involved in, although that ranks them 16th in total.
Man United's record of 2.55 goals per game mean Ruben Amorim's side are the second dullest Premier League team, but the 42nd overall.
Meanwhile, behind Burnley, Wigan have been measured as the most boring side in League One, while Gillingham are the unfortunate holders of that accolade in League Two.
Elsewhere, Tottenham's chaotic season sees them languishing in 16th place in the Premier League after 18 defeats in 33 games.
However, Spurs fans have witnessed 112 goals in that time, a record of 3.39 each match, which makes them the most exciting outfit across the four tiers.
Wolves are the next most entertaining at 3.30 goals per game, while Peterborough United's 3.21 ranks them as the EFL's most compelling side to watch, as per the data.
Norwich and Plymouth (3.02) share that honour in the Championship at 3.02 goals per 90 minutes - and Swindon (3) are at the top of the tree in League Two.

Liverpool make huge new Wirtz offer in bid to strike British record transfer

Liverpool have submitted a new offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz - but are still below the German club's valuation of the player. The bid totals £113million with £100m initially and a further £13m in add ons. It would be a British transfer record, eclipsing the £107m that Chelsea splashed out on Enzo Fernandes back in 2023. But Bayer Leverkusen believe the German star is worth £126m (€150m). Talks are continuing between the clubs and will go on through the weekend. Liverpool do not want to pay the full asking price the Bundesliga side are looking for and are hoping to strike a compromise. Wirtz, 22, has made it clear to his club that he only wants to move to Anfield after Manchester City opted out of the race for his signature when it became clear his preference was Merseyside. Sporting director Richard Hughes is leading negotiations and is hopeful a deal can be reached in the coming days. Boss Arne Slot sees Wirtz as a player who can push Liverpool forward as they bid to defend the Premier League title and go for glory in the Champions League. He's seen as a talent who can make an instant impact but with the potential to become even better over the coming years. Personal terms won't be an issue once a fee is agreed and the player is waiting for the green light to head to Liverpool for a medical next week after Germany face France in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday. Rudi Voller, the former Leverkusen sporting director, speculated that progress on a deal was being made earlier this week. 'It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool,' Voller told DAZN. 'I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. [But with] transfers like this [it's] often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached. Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through. 'Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen but also for the national team. That's why he costs a few euros more.' Join our new WhatsApp communityand receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. It's claimed that the Blues approached Barcelona about swapping out-of-favour forward Christopher Nkunku for the 22-year-old talent. However, Barcelona officials have outright rejected the approach, with manager Hansi Flick keen to keep hold of the two-time Spain international. Barcelona are interested in bringing in a new forward this summer, but are thought to consider Liverpool winger Luis Diaz as their number one target - who has admitted he is talking to other clubs. Nkunku, 27, looks destined for a Stamford Bridge exit after making just nine Premier League starts under Enzo Maresca this season. Lopez has also struggled for consistent minutes at Barcelona, falling behind the likes of Dani Olmo, Raphinha and Gavi in the pecking order for the Catalan giants. However, he is still understood to be considered a crucial part of Barcelona's future - picking up 18 goal contributions across all competitions this season. Liverpool table latest offer for Florian Wirtz - but are STILL short of Bayer Leverkusen's £126m valuation as talks continue over move for the midfielder

Liverpool have offered £100million plus a further £13m in add ons for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz. Talks are ongoing between parties with the Germany international set on a move to the Premier League champions. The 22-year-old has made it clear that Liverpool are his choice so talks are continuing to find a middle ground over the next few days as Leverkusen hold out for more. The German star has been convinced by Arne Slot 's clear plan of where he will play in Liverpool's set-up as a No 10. Sources in Germany talk with certainty that Wirtz will soon complete a move to Liverpool with some suggesting next week will be a key period for the deal. And on Wednesday, Wirtz appeared to nod when asked by MailSport if he was 'excited for Liverpool ' after Germany's Nations League defeat by Portugal. If Liverpool accept Bayer's £126m demand, Wirtz would become the most expensive signing in British football, overtaking the £115m Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo. Their current offer, however, is short of that. Sources in Germany indicate that next week will be a key period for the negotiations between Bayer Leverkusen and Arne Slot's side A potential stumbling block for the deal had appeared in the form of a statement from Koln president Werner Wolf. Wirtz joined Koln as a child in 2010 before making the switch to Leverkusen 10 years later as a 17-year-old. According to FIFA's rules, any club that has played a role in a player's development between the age of 12 and 23 will receive five per cent of any transfer fee as 'training compensation'. Wirtz was at Koln for nine-and-a-half years from the age of seven and Wolf said his club are going to fight for what they feel they deserve. Five per cent of the fee would see Koln pocket more than £5million from what could be a record transfer. On Wednesday night, Wirtz scored the first goal of the game as Germany fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Portugal in the Nations League. This Sunday, he will line up against France in the third-place play-off.
