Twins snap 4-game losing streak in 5-4 win over Guardians
Trevor Larnach had a two-run single in a four-run first inning and the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. Matt Wallner and Royce Lewis also drove in runs in the first against Joey Cantillo (2-2), who struck out a season-high nine over 5 2/3 innings. Kody Clemens' bunt single in the eighth plated DaShawn Keirsey Jr. with an insurance run. The Guardians trailed 5-2 going into the ninth, but Brayan Rocchio's pinch-hit single off Michael Tonkin scored Nolan Jones and C.J. Kayfus. Erasmo Ramírez entered and retired Daniel Schneemann and José Ramírez in order to close out the win. Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak. Kody Funderburk (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings of relief, and Ramírez earned the save in his first big-league appearance since Aug. 30, 2024, with Tampa Bay. José Ramírez hit a two-run homer in the first and Schneemann had three hits for the second day in a row for Cleveland, which had won four straight. Kayfus doubled for his first hit in the majors, one day after being recalled from Triple-A Columbus. José Ureña, pitching for his sixth team in three years, started and gave up two runs in four innings for the Twins. Wallner and Clemens had two hits apiece.

WATCH as former Clemson baseball starter has career day at MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol
A former Clemson baseball starter had quite a day for himself Sunday at Major League Baseball's Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tennessee. Atlanta Braves outfielder Eli White, who played at Clemson from 2014-16, crushed two home runs in the Braves' 4-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The game was played at Bristol Motor Speedway, the crown jewel of NASCAR's short-track circuit that previously hosted a regular season college football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech in 2016. White was 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. He started his day with a three-run blast down the left field line off Reds reliever Brent Suter that traveled 411 feet in the top of the second inning for a 3-1 Braves lead. Leading off the seventh inning, White went deep again with a 413-foot smash to left center off reliever Scott Barlow to cap the Braves' scoring. For White, now in his sixth major league season, the home runs were his fifth and sixth of the year. He's up to a career-high 24 RBIs for the year, and his four RBIs Sunday were a career high for one game. White's seventh-inning blast tied his career high for most home runs in a season, and his batting average rose to .254 through 76 games this season. A product of Wren High School in Piedmont, South Carolina, White has already played in more games this season than his previous high of 64 with the Texas Rangers in 2021. He was an 11th round pick by the Oakland Athletics in the 2016 MLB draft after hitting eight home runs and 22 doubles across three seasons at Clemson. Julio Rodriguez sets MLB record with 20+ home runs and steals in 4 consecutive seasons as Mariners beat Rangers
Julio Rodriguez homered to become the first player in major league history with 20 or more home runs and 20 or more stolen bases in each of his first four seasons, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 on Sunday. Rodriguez hit a two-run shot in the third inning — his 100th career homer — and the slugging and speedy center fielder also added his 21st stolen base of the season after singling in the fifth inning. Jorge Polanco added a solo shot in the second and shortstop J.P. Crawford smacked a two-run blast in the fourth against Rangers starter Jacob deGrom (10-4), who became the fastest pitcher in major league history to reach 1,800 career strikeouts by games and innings on Sunday. The Rangers kept things close by pushing across three runs against Mariners starter Logan Evans (5-4), but only tallied one run against the Mariners bullpen before closer Andrés Muñoz locked down his 25th save of the season. Sam Haggerty pinch-ran for Joc Pederson with one out in the ninth inning and attempted to steal second base while Wyatt Langford was batting. Haggerty was initially ruled safe, but following a replay review was ruled out. Langford struck out swinging immediately after to end the inning. Sunday was the first time deGrom has allowed three home runs or more in a game since Sept. 30, 2022, against the Atlanta Braves while he was a member of the New York Mets. Rangers left-hander Patrick Corbin (6-7, 3.78) starts Monday evening against the New York Yankees. The Mariners are off Monday, but right-hander Bryan Woo (8-6, 3.11) will start against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
