Touch ‘n Go, Proton partner to roll out pre-fitted RFID in new X50
Under the agreement, every new Proton X50 will be pre-fitted with a Touch 'n Go RFID tag at the production line, enabling seamless access to Malaysia's extensive RFID-enabled highway network.
In a joint statement, the companies said the initiative underscores their commitment to providing smarter and more convenient driving experiences for Malaysians.
'It's about instant gratification. You drive your new Proton X50 off the showroom floor with RFID already installed, just like that. This is not just about smarter mobility; it's about bringing real value and delight into everyday journeys,' Touch 'n Go chief executive officer Prabakaran Sangarajoo said.
He noted that the partnership between the two homegrown Malaysian companies showcases the potential of local champions working together.
'It's a move driven by purpose to create more seamless experiences for the people we serve, and to make everyday mobility feel easier, faster, and more intuitive. Touch 'n Go is proud to co-create this milestone with Proton for Malaysians, by Malaysians.'
Meanwhile, Proton Edar deputy CEO Zhang Qiang said the Proton X50 has been the company's star product in its SUV range, with more than 140,000 units produced to date at the Tanjong Malim plant.
'With the launch of the all-new Proton X50, we have taken a quantum leap forward to improve the purchase value for customers by offering a new design and new technologies while keeping the price unchanged.
'By partnering with Touch 'n Go, Proton is adding another new feature that fits perfectly with the model tagline of Intelligence That Amazes,' Zhang said.
Aside from the Proton X50, the partnership between the two companies could be extended to other models in Proton's line-up, offering buyers the same seamless driving experience.

Curry Puffs And Dreams: Building An Accounting Firm From RM300 Beginnings
Subscribe to our FREE A yellowed employment letter tells the story of humble beginnings that many Malaysians can relate to. 35 years ago, a young man received his first salary as an Audit Assistant at a Kuala Lumpur accounting firm – RM280 plus RM20 Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), totalling RM300. That man, Koh Teck Peng, is now the founder and group principal of an accounting firm in Johor Bahru . How tough were those days? There was no bank transfer back then, Koh recalls. Every month, I'd walk to UMBC Bank – now RHB – queue up, and hand my paper cheque to the counter lady with a smile, saying this is my allowance.' The bank teller would stamp it, count out the cash, and hand it over. That was my monthly ritual. Life on RM300 a Month His daily routine was gruelling but purposeful: Daytime : Working hard at Evening: Rushing to Systematic College for Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) classes Night: Studying until late Weekends: Cramming at ACCA headquarters near his office, occasional movies at Bukit Bintang Meals: Dinner often just a roadside curry puff Commute: Squeezed into mini buses with drivers racing like F1 racers Daily Load: Carrying audit files in one hand, pirated Despite the tight budget, there was time for fun. Someone suggested we learn ballroom dancing – not K-pop or hip hop, but waltz, cha-cha, and twist. A bunch of accountants dancing was absolutely hilarious! What was RM300 worth in 1990? Not much, but enough, Koh says earnestly. Most importantly, a company was willing to hire him and give Koh a chance to prove himself. 35 Years Later Today He emphasises that the small UMBC bank check, though modest in amount, changed the trajectory of his life. His senior colleagues were patient, correcting his mistakes in ticking, vouching, and referencing without embarrassing him. Looking back 35 years later, he adds: 'If I could walk to that same bank counter today, I'd still say 'This is my allowance,' then add: 'It changed my life.'' After a year and a half in KL, Koh returned to Johor Bahru in 1992. His parting question: 'Guess what my next salary was?' READ MORE : Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . 80 per cent road accidents caused by careless drivers, not poor road conditions
Road users must realise their actions don't just endanger themselves, but everyone else on the road. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi with Sinar Daily Editor Tasnim Lokman during Sinar Daily's podcast entitled 'Billions Spent but Are Our Roads Any Safer?'. - Photo: FACEBOOK / ALEXANDER NANTHA LINGGI SHAH ALAM – Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has urged Malaysians to take greater responsibility behind the wheel, revealing that over 80 per cent of road accidents in the country are caused by driver negligence rather than poor road conditions or weather. Citing data from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), Nanta said Malaysia recorded about 500,000 road accidents each year, with around 12,000 cases involving serious injuries or fatalities. Of the roughly 6,000 annual road deaths, around 4,000 involved motorcyclists, he added. 'These figures are high and people often ask if it's because of the road conditions. The fact is, Miros studies show slightly more than 80 per cent of accidents are due to the carelessness of drivers themselves. "Only 13 per cent are linked to road conditions or weather, such as slippery roads from heavy rain," he said during Sinar Daily's podcast entitled 'Billions Spent but Are Our Roads Any Safer?'. He stressed that many accidents could have been avoided if road users adhered to traffic laws, especially speed limits that were set scientifically to suit road conditions. 'If the maximum speed limit is 60 km/h, it's there for a reason. Exceeding it might still be safe to a point, but your control over the vehicle decreases, especially on roads with turns or downhill stretches,' he explained. Nanta also warned against the growing trend of drivers using mobile phones while driving, calling it extremely irresponsible. "You might think replying to a WhatsApp message is harmless, but if you hit someone and they die, you'll carry that guilt for life. "Our road users must realise their actions don't just endanger themselves, but everyone else on the road," he said. More Like This
