Ensure timely settlement of revenue disputes: U.P. CM to officials
In a high-level review of the revenue department on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to fast-track the timely settlement of revenue disputes and accelerate land record digitisation—calling them key to public trust, investment and transparent governance.
He emphasised a people-centric, tech-driven, and accountable work culture in the department. The CM instructed officials to expedite the digitisation of remaining land records and prioritise uploading urban land data to the online portal.
He called for a user-friendly redesign of the Revenue Board's portal and the creation of an integrated dashboard—from lekhpal to commissioner—for better monitoring and public benefit. Yogi also laid stress on displaying land use data of authorities in 'Khatauni' (landholding record) and simplifying the land use change process under Section 80 (of the U.P. Revenue Code) to ensure greater transparency.
Emphasising the need for full automation of transfer cases, the CM highlighted its potential to provide citizens with timely justice and ease. He also directed the implementation of technical intervention and transparency in the consolidation process, urging sensitivity in handling complex consolidation cases to avoid social disputes.
Yogi ordered that undisputed inheritance cases be resolved within 15 working days. The CM directed the mandatory resolution of all pending cases related to 'Khatauni', Aadhaar seeding, farmer registry, measurement, and 'Khasra' (plot details) investigation within the set time frame, with additional human resources allocated as needed.
The department reported the issuance of over 36 lakh caste, residence and income certificates last year, with 85% processed online within seven working days. The CM commended this progress and instructed officials to further enhance service delivery for greater effectiveness and transparency.
He praised the department for its swift response during natural disasters, noting that over 3.5 lakh affected families received assistance through DBT in 2023-24. Yogi also directed complete disposal of all pending applications under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Accident Welfare Scheme within the next 10 working days.

Caste census: Vokkaligara sangha welcomes re-survey, OBC federation criticises decision
A day after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced another socio-economic and educational survey (caste census) of Karnataka's population for the purpose of providing reservation to the backward classes, there were contrasting reactions from cate groups. The Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha, at a press conference, welcomed the setting aside of the controversial 2015 survey report, while the Karnataka State Backward Classes Federation criticised the decision. Earlier, the All-India Veerashaiva Mahasabha had welcomed discarding the 2015 survey report and said it would extend cooperation if the government conducts a fresh one. However, while welcoming the discarding of the old survey, Vokkaligara sangha president Kenchappa Gowda questioned the need for a new one. 'When the Union government has announced collecting caste data as part of the general census, what is the need for us to have another one? The new one has been announced for political compulsion,' he argued. He said the sangha is considering holding a survey of the Vokkaliga community that would include the collection of information such as land holding, education, occupation, and income. 'The matter will be placed for discussion before a committee on June 18.' However, general secretary of the federation Yennegere R. Venkataramaiah said it was a 'disappointing development' that the old survey report had been kept aside. 'This is a contradictory policy after announcing that it will be accepted. Dominant communities have always bulldozed the backward classes, and it has happened again,' he said, adding that the full survey report should be made public. On the new survey to be conducted, Mr. Venkataramaiah said Aadhaar or ration card has to be linked to individuals to prevent anyone from casting aspersions on the survey. 'The government should appoint a high-powered committee, including leaders of communities and elected representatives, to monitor the survey that should be completed within the deadline,' he added.

UP govt digitises National Family Benefit Scheme for transparency and ease
Lucknow, The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday said that its National Family Benefit Scheme designed to provide relief to poor and vulnerable families has been made more transparent, efficient and people-friendly. The eligible families now no longer have to make repeated visits for financial assistance. The entire process from application to payment is now digital and accountable at every stage, the government said in a statement. As per the new framework, the government will ensure that beneficiaries receive their financial aid within 75 days of applying, it added. In case of any delays, rather than dragging the case through lengthy procedures, approval will be obtained directly from the district-level committee to facilitate immediate payment. "This means that needy families will no longer have to wait for state-level approvals, bringing timely relief to those who have long awaited assistance," the government said. "To ensure effective implementation, district social welfare officers have been given key responsibilities. They must ensure that the applicant has not already received aid under the scheme," it added. Upon verification, the final list of eligible beneficiaries will be prepared and submitted before the approval committee within seven days, the government said. The approved list will then be uploaded to the portal with digital signatures. The funds will be transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Public Financial Management System . The government also noted that in case of budgetary constraints, the district magistrates can authorize payments as per treasury rules to prevent any delays in benefit disbursal. "Special provisions have been made for emergency circumstances. In such cases, the district magistrate and social welfare officer will verify applications using digital signatures, enabling instant payments upon approval," it said. A helpline number has been launched at the command centre for grievance redressal, where beneficiaries can register their complaints. The government said it has also prioritized widespread promotion of the scheme. The lists of beneficiaries and eligibility criteria will be publicly displayed during tehsil-level meetings. Additionally, hoardings, posters and handbills will be used to ensure maximum outreach so that more people can benefit, it added. On the technology front, improvements are also underway. Similar to scholarship schemes that require Aadhaar seeding confirmation, the Family Benefit Scheme will soon feature Aadhaar-based live verification to instantly check account status ensuring transparency and real-time tracking, it said. The government said it remains committed to reaching every needy household and simplifying their lives. Under the National Family Benefit Scheme, a financial support of ₹30,000 is provided to the dependent family member of a deceased earning head provided the family's annual income does not exceed ₹56,460 in urban areas and ₹46,080 in rural areas. "In FY 2024-25 alone, the government has provided benefits to 1,08,883 bereaved families, incurring a total expenditure of ₹326.64 crore," it added.
