UP cop held in Delhi for stealing bike to repay gambling debts
Deputy commissioner of police (east) Abhishek Dhania identified the accused as Mohammed Mohseen, 27, posted with the 44th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Meerut. He was apprehended during a patrol in Rajdhani Enclave Market earlier this week, when police recovered two master keys used to unlock motorcycles from his possession.
During interrogation, Mohseen, a 2019-batch official and resident of Baghpat, allegedly confessed to stealing a Hero Splendor from Preet Vihar in May. CCTV footage from the date of the theft allegedly corroborated his presence, Dhania said.
Investigators later traced the stolen motorcycle to a man in Meerut, who told police he had bought it from Mohseen via social media. The bike's engine and chassis numbers had been tampered with, police said.
According to Dhania, Mohseen is married, addicted to gambling, and has previous cases of vehicle theft against him. 'He targeted parked two-wheelers in Delhi using master keys, then sold them in UP through personal contacts and social media. He wanted to pay off his gambling debts,' the DCP said.
Police said that Mohseen was arrested under sections of thefts of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, adding that further investigation is under way.

Mathura turns into fortress for Janmashtami, vehicles entry banned in city
Mathura (UP), Aug 15 (PTI) Mathura on Friday transformed into a virtual fortress on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, with thousands of police personnel deployed across the city to ensure the safety of lakhs of devotees. District authorities divided the city in four zones and 18 sectors, deploying more than 5,000 police officers and personnel. With the three-day Krishna Mahotsav underway, the entry of all heavy vehicles into the city has been banned. In addition, due to heavy footfall on routes leading to the Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple, the movement of vehicles has also been restricted, officials said. Social media activity is under strict watch, and the inner area of the Janmasthan temple has been designated a red zone with extra police presence. The yellow and green zones around it are manned by plain-clothed personnel, including women officers. Barricades have been set up at multiple points, where police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) teams are screening visitors to prevent the entry of unwanted elements, they said. Entry to the temple is now through the northern gate (Govind Nagar side), while the main gate is being used for exit. Mobile phones, key rings, wristwatches, and any electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside. Devotees have been advised not to carry items like shoes, bags, matches, lighters or umbrellas to the temple, and to leave them safely at their accommodation to avoid difficulties during the exit, which will be from a different point. The Krishna Mahotsav 2025 began in the morning with a grand procession from the Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple, featuring 300-�400 folk artistes performing along the route. The procession started from the main gate, passed through Deeg Gate, Roopam Cinema Tiraha, Govind Nagar police station, Mahavidya Colony, and Potra Kund, before returning to the main gate. Railways have extended services and added temporary halts to accommodate the influx of devotees arriving from Delhi, Bhopal and other cities. Several trains will run to Mathura until August 18. Additional temporary halts have been provided at Bhuteshwar station for multiple long-distance trains, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-�Amritsar, Korba-�Amritsar, Puri-�Yoganagari Rishikesh and Agra Cantt-�New Delhi. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has also increased buses frequency between Mathura and Agra to meet the surge in passenger demand. Khanna: No involvement of state govt,its machinery in Fatehpur incident
Lucknow: Responding to the Opposition's allegations over the Monday's Fatehpur incident, finance and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna on Tuesday told the state assembly that neither the govt nor any part of its administrative machinery was involved. Dismissing allegations as "completely unfounded," he asserted that the state was committed to maintaining law and order and anyone taking the law into their own hands would face strict punishment. Khanna emphasised that the FIR itself showed the govt was acting promptly. "The law is doing its work, and anyone attempting to bypass it will face due judicial process," he stated, adding that maintaining law and order under all circumstances was the govt's top priority. He also suggested that the opposition was trying to give the incident a political colour, while police acted swiftly to initiate proceedings without delay. "The govt has reinforced police presence in the region with personnel from 10 police stations, two companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and the full administrative apparatus deployed. A total of 160 people, including the 10 named accused, have been booked. Authorities are engaging both sides in dialogue to restore calm, with action to follow once the situation stabilises," he said later. Earlier, SP members jumped into the well of the House immediately after the Question Hour got over and resorted to sloganeering and vociferous protest alleging inaction by the government over Fatehpur incident. Otherwise smoothly running House saw pandemonium as leader of opposition Mata Prasad Pandey while raising the issue alleged that the incident at Fatehpur took place at the behest of some BJP leaders. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present when the SP members expressed dissatisfaction over Khanna's reply, and started protesting. Speaker Satish Mahana while trying to pacify the agitating SP members urged them to get back to their seats as he was ready to hold discussion on the issue. He said that despite the fact that he was ready to give opportunity to the SP members to speak on the issue, they were are reluctant. "The Opposition seems not ready to listen to the answer that the government will give on the issue," the Speaker said. Despite regular requests by the Speaker, the SP members stayed put in the well, resorting to sloganeering. Unable to pacify the agitating members and amid prevailing din, the Speaker directed the members to rush through the day's proceedings. Even as the protest by the SP members went on for around one hour, Mahana repeatedly maintained that he was ready to hold a discussion on the issue during the adjournment motion as one of the SP members had already given the notice on the issue. Assuming that the discussion would take place immediately, the SP members went back to their seats. SP chief whip Kamal Akhtar stood up and said that the mausoleum existed on the land for over 100 years, yet there were efforts to raze it. Intervening, the Speaker said that the matter would be taken up later during the adjournment motion. The SP members, however, demanded that the adjournment motion be taken up on priority basis and again jumped into the well. The Speaker, meanwhile, asked the treasury benches to carry forward with the day's proceedings. Interestingly, even after the day's business got over, the Speaker urged the SP members to get back to their seats and hold a discussion on the issue and allow the government to give an answer. Tension mounts in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur as mob vandalises tomb
Tension mounted in Fatehpur on Monday (August 11, 2025) after Hindu organisations, including the Bajrang Dal, attempted to offer prayers inside an old tomb in the Abu Nagar locality under the Kotwali Nagar police station, claiming a temple previously existed at the site. Around 1,000 members of right-wing outfits carrying saffron flags barged into the tomb, with some vandalising the structure with sticks. It led to a confrontation with the opposite side. The district administration was forced to deploy police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in a hurry. The police erected barricades around the structure and neighbouring places to control the situation. Locals said several people chanting 'Jai Shree Ram' climbed onto the roof and installed a saffron flag. The local administration brought in reinforcements from the Radha Nagar, Husainganj, Malwan, and Jahanabad police stations. 160 people booked 'The crowd gathered at the disputed tomb site under the Kotwali Nagar police station area has been pacified by persuasion, and the miscreants have been identified. A case has been registered against 10 named and 150 unknown miscreants who forced their way into the structure and vandalised the site under relevant sections of law at Kotwali Nagar Police Station, and teams have been formed to arrest all the accused. The accused will be arrested soon, and legal action will be taken,' said Anoop Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), Fatehpur. The controversy began after members of the local Bajrang Dal, Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti, and other Hindu outfits said the structure was a temple to Thakurji (Lord Krishna) and Lord Shiva, allegedly over a thousand years old, and had a Shivling. Plans to perform prayers at the site had been announced earlier. Some local BJP leaders also supported the announcement. 'We will offer prayers here at noon. The administration will not be able to stop us. In the Hindu religion, no one can take away your right to offer prayers. It is our temple, which they are referring to as a tomb,' Dharmendra Singh, a Bajrang Dal activist, said this morning, before the tension started.
