‘Deadpool and Wolverine,' ‘Thunderbolts,' ‘The Last of Us' lead the 2025 Critics Choice Super Awards nominations
Deadpool & Wolverine, Thunderbolts, and The Last of Us are having a super good Wednesday.
The pair of Marvel Studios movies lead the film nominations for the fifth annual Critics Choice Super Awards, with six apiece including Best Superhero Movie. That top category is rounded out by Captain America: Brave New World, The People's Joker, Robot Dreams, and Venom: The Last Dance.

For television, HBO's zombie apocalypse drama The Last of Us leads the field with six bids, including Best Superhero Series, Limited Series, or Made-for-TV Movie. The other programs competing in that race are Agatha All Along, The Boys, Fallout, The Penguin, and Superman & Lois.

The Critics Choice Super Awards honor films and shows in four separate genres: action, superhero (which includes comic book and video game adaptations), horror, and science fiction/fantasy. While heroes are the stars of the show, there are also two categories for villains. This year's nominated baddies are: Austin Butler (Dune: Part Two), Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine), Hugh Grant (Heretic), Jack O'Connell (Sinners), Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts), and Denzel Washington (Gladiator II) for film; and Vincent D'Onofrio (Daredevil: Born Again), Michael Emerson (Evil), Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Takehiro Hira (Shōgun), Julianne Nicholson (Paradise), and Jesse Plemons (Black Mirror: USS Callister: Into Infinity) for television.
"The Super Awards continue to spotlight the incredible achievements in genre cinema and television. This year's slate of nominees truly blew us away with their performances and craftsmanship. These selections represent the very best of popular culture, and we can't wait to see who takes home the honors," Sean O'Connell, CCA director of the Super Awards, said.

Pixar exec says former boss Steve Jobs called workers anytime, even at 3 a.m. and on vacation—but it's a red flag he won't repeat
A Pixar executive said his former boss Steve Jobs would call 'at any time, day or night, three in the morning,' even if 'you're on vacation, doesn't matter.' It's a leadership trait he doesn't want to emulate at the $7.4 billion animation studio. Other CEOs like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have fostered company cultures that expected workers to be 'always on.' While Steve Jobs may be best known for revolutionizing tech with the iPhone and iPod, few people may know about his double life bringing beloved films like Finding Nemo and Toy Story to life. He was one of the three founding fathers of Pixar Animation Studios, purchasing the group from Lucasfilm in 1986. But in helping lead the iconic movie company, Jobs had a certain habit that would drive any employee up the wall. 'He would call—especially the producers—at any time, day or night, three in the morning, you're on vacation, doesn't matter,' Pete Docter, chief creative officer at Pixar who formerly worked under Jobs, said at Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies Gala last week. 'He wants to talk to you about it, you're on.' Docter assumed the Apple cofounder disregarded people's downtime because he was so passionate about the work—after all, Jobs was particularly skilled at problem-solving and relinquishing authority at Pixar to let the animators really shine. But Docter said the after-hours calling is one leadership trait he doesn't want to emulate, even though he slips up sometimes. Even though the late Apple CEO did not seem to respect staffers' personal time all too much, he did hold their work in deep reverence. Docter recalled how Jobs was 'pretty amazing at saying, 'this is not my business,'' and letting the creatives have control over their projects. Docter said Jobs carried a disposition that 'I'm not going to come in here and direct this movie or tell you what to do.' If it weren't for the financial backing, supportive leadership, and animation geniuses at the helm of Pixar, it might not be the filmmaking giant it is today. The studio's first movie was Toy Story, released in 1995—one of the most beloved films to come from Pixar, launching a five-film franchise, and counting. Pixar then went on to churn out hits like The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, and Up over the next 15 years. Under fierce competition to keep pace with the studio's immense popularity, Disney acquired Pixar for $7.4 billion in 2006. There were undoubtedly growing pains in scaling the studio, but Jobs had a particular talent in helping employees solve problems. Docter said he was able to understand issues quickly and provide guidance. 'He could walk into rooms where he knew nothing about what was going on…sit for about five minutes, and analyze what the conversation was really about.' the Pixar executive continued. 'I think that came from years of practicing.' The expectation that staffers should be 'always on' at the whim of their bosses is no new fad; it's often the culture of high performance, so businesses can 'move fast and break things.' Tesla leader Elon Musk is famous for sending out emails at odd hours, as early as 2:30 a.m., and expecting his staffers to match his intense work ethic. 'There are way easier places to work, but nobody ever changed the world on 40 hours a week,' Musk tweeted in 2018. Amazon is also known for fostering a pretty tough work culture. A New York Times article from 2015 reported that employees were expected to be on top of communication, even if emails came in past midnight. Ford's Theatre explores the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln and celebrates the American experience through theatre and education. During the Civil War, Ford's Theatre was one of Washington's top entertainment venues, giving Washingtonians a much-needed break from the realities of war. DC Studios Is Finally Making a ‘Mister Miracle' Animated Series
Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios have announced that the next adult animated series will be Mister Miracle. According to Deadline, which initially broke the news, Mister Miracle comic book writer Tom King (who is also producing HBO's Lanterns TV series) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer of the animated series. While no release date or cast announcements were coupled with the Mister Miracle's announcement, the show, which follows the eponymous DC character, will be based on the award-winning 2017 comic book series, created by King and artist Mitch Gerads. According to the logline for the series, Scott Free (AKA Mister Miracle) is a renowned celebrity known best for being the greatest escape artist alive. His latest stunt is to see if he can escape death itself. Naturally, things go 'horribly wrong' in Scott's 'perfect life,' he's built with his big, strong warrior wife, Big Barda. That thing being a war between their home worlds of Apokolips and New Genesis thanks to Mister Miracle's adoptive father Darkseid (yikes) seemingly finally getting his hands on the Anti-Life Equation, a weapon granting him power to rule over the universe. 'As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace,' says the logline. 'But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he's found with the woman he loves. It continues: 'And so begins the odyssey of Scott Free, Mister Miracle: a harrowing, hilarious, heart wrenching journey across the pitfalls of the ordinary and extraordinary as the son of God raised by the devil tries to save his family, his world, and maybe even himself.' According to a press release from Warner Bros, Mister Miracle will serve as Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios' second adult animated series. The first of which (supposedly, barring the Harley Quinn Animated series) is Creature Commandos, whose second season is in production. In tandem with the announcement of Mister Miracle, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation reaffirmed other recently greenlit animated series, including Starfire!, My Adventures with Green Lantern and DC Super Powers. While the news of a Mister Miracle series will come to many DC fans as a pleasant surprise, this isn't the first time DC has attempted to bring the comic book character to life. Back in 2018, DC announced director Ava DuVernay was set to direct a New Gods movie, which would've seen Barda and Miracle on the silver screen–a project that King was set to co-write on, but was ultimately scrapped in 2021. With DC Studios under James Gunn unveiling a revamped roadmap of sorts, featuring a new array of projects, Mister Miracle's return to the menu is a pleasant surprise for the ultimate wife guy's diehard fans.
