Chinese national arrested after allegedly assaulting KLIA immigration officer in scuffle over missing entry records
In the 7.40 pm incident, the woman, who was with a man and two children, approached the counter for immigration departure inspection when the officer on duty found that they had no records of entry into Malaysia, and referred the matter to the supervisor for further checks.
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the suspect was dissatisfied when told to let other passengers through while the checks were being done, before hurling abuse at the officer, pulling her headscarf and pushing her head towards a pillar in front of the counter.
'A brief scuffle ensued, and the suspect refused to calm down even when instructed. AKPS enforcement officers then called in the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team to diffuse the situation,' the AKPS said in a statement today.
Following the incident, the officer sustained swelling around her left eye, a headache on the right side of her head and body aches and was referred to Cyberjaya Hospital.
A police report was made, and the suspect is under police custody for investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their public functions, Section 332 for injuring a public servant and Section 353 for using criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duty. — Bernama

Vape products worth RM316,000 seized in Perlis as ban takes effect
The sale of vape and electronic cigarettes has been banned in Perlis since Aug 1. PETALING JAYA : Police have seized vape products worth nearly RM316,000 in Kangar, Perlis, as the ban on selling vape and electronic cigarettes takes effect in the northern state. Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Azmi Abu Kassim said this followed raids on two premises in Kangar on Friday in collaboration with the municipal council. They were acting on public complaints about vape products being sold despite the ban, which took effect on Aug 1, Berita Harian reported. Azmi said 2,083 units of devices and vape liquids worth RM104,150 were confiscated in the first raid, and 4,235 units worth RM211,750 were seized in the second operation. The local council also issued compound notices to the caretakers of the premises for violating the Local Government Act 1976. 'All the items seized are believed to have been for sale, despite the Perlis government enforcing a ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes and vapes since Aug 1,' he said.

The attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's 12-year-old son occurred at a shopping mall in Putrajaya last Wednesday. PETALING JAYA : The federal police's criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation into the attack on Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's 12-year-old son on Aug 13. The former economy minister said CCTV footage showed that two men, dressed in black with their faces fully covered by helmets, had followed his wife's car on a motorcycle before the incident. His son, who was dragged and stabbed with a syringe, was rushed to hospital for treatment and a checkup. The assailants escaped. The former PKR deputy president suspected that the attack was planned, and that his wife was likely observed by the assailants for a few days before the attack was carried out. Rafizi said his son will need to undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility that he was injected with anything dangerous.

Unrealistic to cut ties with only Akmal, says DAP man
V Papparaidu urged DAP Youth leaders to keep calm as Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh is already under police investigation. PETALING JAYA : A member of the DAP leadership has played down calls for the party to sever ties with Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh over his actions in the Jalur Gemilang issue, but promises that the matter will be discussed by the top leadership. DAP central executive committee member V Papparaidu said it would be unrealistic to expect the party to cut ties with Akmal without affecting its wider relationship with Umno, which could hamper the stability of the unity government, of which Umno is a key partner. 'Political relationships are complex and interconnected, and any action we take must be carefully weighed so as not to jeopardise broader cooperation and stability,' he told FMT. Nonetheless, Papparaidu said he would ensure that the proposal, raised by the Penang and Negeri Sembilan DAP Youth, would be brought to the CEC. 'Every view from the grassroots is valuable, and it is important that such perspectives are given a proper platform. However, we always follow our secretary-general's guidance and advice to ensure our party's discipline is maintained at all times,' he said. He urged DAP Youth leaders to keep calm and be patient since Akmal was already under police investigation over a Facebook video concerning the flag issue, in which he allegedly made statements that could disrupt public peace. Akmal is under investigation for sedition and criminal intimidation over the video, which is related to a hardware shop owner in Penang who accidentally hung the Jalur Gemilang upside down. Akmal laughed off the threat to sever ties with him and dared DAP to do so, saying such a move would inadvertently mean ending its relationship with Umno. FMT has sought comment from DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook. Papparaidu said all politicians should let the police take the lead on the issue. He, nonetheless, took a swipe at Akmal for warning about taking things into his own hands if no punitive action is taken on the hardware shop owner. 'Akmal has attempted to pressure the police by setting an arbitrary time frame for action, which can be interpreted as a threat against the authorities. 'It is important that we continue to uphold the rule of law, respect due process, and maintain discipline in our political actions,' said Papparaidu, who is a Selangor executive councillor.
