Ravenshaw University revokes order on women students' stay

Railway trackman killed, another injured in Maoist IED blast in Odisha's Sundargarh
ROURKELA: A railway trackman was killed and another injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Maoist operatives went off on the railway tracks under the K Balang police limits of Rourkela Police District (RPD) on Sunday forenoon. The deceased trackman, Atua Oram (37), and his injured colleague, Budhua Munda (35), were inspecting the railway tracks for possible sabotage when the explosion took place. The incident occurred on August 3, the final day of the Martyr Week observed by the outlawed CPI (Maoist) outfit. The blast site was located a few kilometres from Renjda station under K Balang police limits in Odisha's Sundargarh district, around 110 km from Rourkela and close to the Maoist stronghold in the dense Saranda forest of Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district. The injured person has been shifted to a private hospital at Rourkela for critical treatment. Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwahi rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. The SP said the IED blast occurred around 10 am on Sunday, resulting in the death of a South Eastern Railway (SER) employee and injuries to another, who has been shifted for treatment. He added that information about Maoist posters being pasted in the area was received around 11:30 pm on Saturday, following which a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)-based track scanning began on Sunday morning.

Hussain, a resident of Lathigaon village in Kathigorah, Cachar district, Assam, was returning home on August 1 when he was allegedly slapped mid-air by a co-passenger. He was reportedly experiencing a panic attack when the incident occurred. According to video footage circulating on social media, Hussain appeared to suffer a panic attack while walking through the aisle. Flight attendants tried to calm him, but an unidentified passenger seated nearby allegedly slapped him forcefully in full view of others. The act was immediately condemned by both passengers and crew members. Meanwhile, back home in Katthigorah in Cachar district of Assam, his wife, Sufiana Begum, told News18 how the family got worried after not finding Hussain at the airport when they went to receive him. 'The last call he made was from the airport. He told me that security checks were done and asked me to come receive him at Kumbhirgram Airport. The flight landed at 1:45 PM. Everyone came out, except him. He just vanished. We haven't eaten or slept. I want justice. He is helpless, we are helpless. Please help us," expressed Sufiana Begum tearfully. Puri teen set on fire dies at AIIMS-Delhi, police rule out anybody's involvement in case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (PTI) The 15-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire by three unidentified miscreants in Odisha's Puri district a fortnight ago succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Delhi, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday. She was allegedly intercepted and abducted by the three persons who poured an inflammable substance and set her ablaze, her mother stated in an FIR at Balanga police station. She had sustained over 70 per cent burn injuries. She was rushed to Pipili community health centre on July 19. Later in the day, she was shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and airlifted to AIIMS-Delhi the next day, where she underwent at least two surgeries and skin grafting. Odisha Police, in the presence of a magistrate, had recorded her statement on Friday. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the state capital in the wake of the girl's death. Dukhisshyam Senapati, a villager who first saw the burning girl and doused the fire on her clothes, quoting the victim had said that three people had abducted her and set her on fire after pouring inflammable substance on her. However, Odisha Police, after a 15-day-long investigation claimed that no other person was involved in the case. 'Deeply saddened by the passing of the Balanga incident victim. Despite the best efforts of doctors at AIIMS-Delhi, her life couldn't be saved. May her soul attain sadgati and God bless the family with immense strength in this difficult time,' Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati said in a X post. Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das also expressed his condolences and demanded the arrest of the three culprits involved in the burning of the girl within seven days. 'We will gherao the DGP office if the culprits are not held within seven days,' Das said. Though 15 days have passed since the girl was set on fire, police have not been able to nab any of the culprits involved in the case, he said. Meanwhile, sources said Puri police has deployed some personnel near the deceased girl's house and also at Balanga town. Police have also tightened security in Bhubaneswar and sealed the roads in front of CM's residence. The incident had sparked outrage as it came close on the heels of a 20-year-old college student resorting to self-immolation and succumbing to 95 per cent burn injuries in Balasore over a sexual harassment incident.
