Culver City Is Losing a Hand-Pulled Noodle Destination

Eater6 hours ago

Bang Bang Noodles, a Chinese hand-pulled noodle shop, is closing its Culver location in the Citizen Public Market at the end of June. The restaurant, which specializes in Xi'an-style biang-biang mian, announced the closure in an Instagram post on June 22. Bang Bang's Downtown LA location will remain open.
Bang Bang Noodles was founded as a pop-up in early 2020 by chef Robert Lee, who had previously worked at restaurants in San Sebastian, New York City, and Los Angeles. In 2023, Lee opened the first permanent location for Bang Bang Noodles at Citizen Public Market, bringing his signature tingly cumin lamb noodles tossed in chile oil to the neighborhood. In the years since opening, the menu has expanded beyond just the cumin lamb noodles to include Xi'an tomato noodles and Szechuan garlic noodles.
After Bang Bang Noodles closes in Culver, those looking for a great bowl of hand-pulled noodles should try Noodle Art in the Original Farmers Market or LAN Noodle, which operates locations in West Hollywood and the San Gabriel Valley.
Shiku, a homestyle Korean stand in Grand Central Market from the team behind Baroo, is donating its proceeds from June to August to non-profits that support immigrants in Los Angeles. 50 percent of profits from this summer will be donated to the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).
Frogtown Mexican seafood destination Loreto is popping up at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel for the summer. The pop-up will take over the terrace at Calabra between June 20 and September 1. Expect crudos, ceviches, and seafood-topped tostadas, paired with mezcalitas, and more.

WhatsApp banned on House staffer devices

Messaging app WhatsApp has been banned on congressional staffers' government devices, the U.S. House's chief administrative officer (CAO) confirmed Monday. 'Protecting the People's House is our topmost priority, and we are always monitoring and analyzing for potential cybersecurity risks that could endanger the data of House Members and staff,' said Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindo in a statement shared with The Hill. 'We routinely review the list of House-authorized apps and will amend the list as deemed appropriate,' she added. Staffers were notified Monday via email, Axios first reported. According to the email obtained by Axios, the CAO told staffers the Officer of Cybersecurity determined WhatsApp is a 'high-risk to users due to lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption and potential security risks involved with its use.' Staffers are not permitted to download or keep the WhatsApp app on any House device, including phones and deskptops, and cannot access it through web browsers, the email stated. WhatsApp is owned by Meta, which also owns popular social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said the company disagrees with the CAO's characterization 'in the strongest possible terms.' 'We know members and their staffs regularly use WhatsApp and we look forward to ensuring members of the House can join their Senate counterparts in doing so officially,' Stone said in a post on X. 'Messages on WhatsApp are end-to-end encrypted by default, meaning only the recipients and not even WhatsApp can see them. This is a higher level of security than most of the apps on the CAO's approved list that do not offer that protection,' he added. It comes months after the CAO warned offices against using Chinese AI platform DeepSeek shortly after it took the internet by storm and roiled the confidence of American investors. A bipartisan group of senators later introduced legislation to ban the startup's products from government devices and networks.

New Stellantis CEO Shakes Up Executive Team in First Day on the Job

Filosa was hired in May after former CEO Carlos Tavares quit in December following conflicts with the of Stellantis (STLA) declined Monday as new CEO Antonio Filosa began his tenure by shaking up the automaker's leadership team. In his first day on the job, Filosa announced that he would remain as head of North America and American Brands, and CFO Doug Ostermann would be responsible for mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. More than a dozen other changes were included in the update. Filosa was chosen to take over the struggling company that owns the Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, and other brands in May, roughly six months after former CEO Carlos Tavares abruptly stepped down following conflicts with the board. Filosa said that the new lineup "draws on all that is best in Stellantis, leaders from within who bring a people-first mindset, a profound understanding of our brands, our products and our customers, best-in-class expertise and an entrepreneurial spirit that will be vital to our success." Filosa is faced with helping the "Big Three" automaker bounce back from slumping sales as it faced stiff competition, especially from Chinese rivals. In April, Stellantis reported first-quarter sales dropped 14% year-over-year to 35.8 billion euros ($41.2 billion) as shipments sank 9% and it had an "unfavorable mix and pricing." Stellantis shares, which slipped 1.3% Monday morning, have lost nearly 30% of their value this year. Seminary Alumna Awarded Prestigious Fellowship to Study Professional Ethics

CHICAGO, June 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- North Park Theological Seminary's (NPTS) Lauren Thurston MDiv '23 has been awarded a clergy-related Fellowship at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE). "As a seminary student, Lauren's attentiveness to the dignity and flourishing of all people was woven throughout all her work," said NPTS Theology Teaching Fellow Armida Belmonte Stephens, who taught Thurston. "As a pastor and leader, she is critically engaging important ethical questions, and her commitment to seeking God's glory and neighbors' good is clear. This fellowship is so very well deserved." As part of the program, participants spend two weeks in Germany and Poland exploring the constructs, current issues, and other factors that raise ethical concerns in contemporary professional work settings. In addition to discussions, students spend time touring sites of historic importance as they relate to the Holocaust. Specifically, FASPE investigates the ethical societal breakdowns that allowed Naziism to flourish in 1930s and 1940s Germany and the implications for today's workplace. "FASPE's distinctive approach is to examine the roles and behavior of individual professionals in Germany and elsewhere between 1933 and 1945 as an initial framework for approaching ethical responsibility in the professions today," according to FASPE's mission statement. The highly competitive fellowships are awarded to those in the fields of law, medicine, journalism, design and technology, and clergy and religious leaders. To qualify, clergy applicants must be enrolled in graduate school or preparing to work as a religious leader. FASPE welcomes applicants from all faith backgrounds.
