The Death of a Mother and Child in Rome Stumped Police, So They Called a TV Show
Investigators were stumped. There were no identifying documents, and the woman's body was so decomposed it would have been difficult for anyone to identify her visually. The gruesome case immediately brought sensationalist front-page headlines — 'Rome, horror in the park, woman and child dead' read one in Rome's daily La Repubblica. Il Corriere della Sera, in Milan, called it 'a whodunit in a park in Rome.'
The country was hooked; the police under pressure.
With few leads, and a media frenzy underway, investigators took an unusual step. A spokeswoman appeared on a popular television show called 'Chi l'ha Visto?' — or 'Who Has Seen Him?' — to ask for the public's help.
And viewers of the show, which looks for missing people, did what they had done for 37 seasons: They searched their memories for clues.
All the police had to go on was that the woman had four visible tattoos and that a preliminary autopsy had revealed the child was her daughter. People who frequented the park recalled seeing a young woman and child that may have fit that description in the company of a man.
What unfolded, over several weekly shows, was a sad tale of a young Russian woman's shattered dream of creating a life for herself abroad. With each revelation, the cachet of 'Chi l'ha Visto?' increased, as did questions about the police's lack of intervention when concerned passers-by had called them about the couple and the child.

Neighbors on high alert after 57-year-old woman stabbed multiple times in Towson
Baltimore County Police are searching for suspects after a woman was stabbed in the Towson area on Thursday. The assault happened just around 7 a.m. on Thursday, according to police. "It's very upsetting. It's extremely upsetting to think that somebody would come through... who would just disturb the peace," said Drew Luckenbach, a Towson resident. Nothing out of the ordinary typically happens here in the neighborhood by Glen Keith Boulevard in Towson, according to Luckenbach. Now, the neighborhood is on edge. "Yesterday morning, I was a little tired. I slept about a half an hour later than I usually do. And when I came out the door, there were police cars and an ambulance just leaving the scene right here," Luckenbach reported. According to Baltimore County Police, they arrived on the scene Thursday morning, just around 7, and found a 57-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. "Talking with the neighbors, I found out it was a woman I usually see when I wake up on time. I know nothing about her, I just say hi, give her a nice smile," Luckenbach added. Right now, it's not clear if the victim knew the suspects or if this was a random attack, but Luckenbach says that until they know, neighbors are on high alert. "Everybody is now thinking twice, watching behind their back, making sure doors are locked, making sure they're not by themselves," Luckenbach said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Metro Crimestoppers at 1-866-7lockup. According to Baltimore County crime data, there have been 119 victims of various crimes reported in the 21286 zip code area in 2025. The majority of those crimes are theft offenses, with 56 cases being reported. Assault offenses take the second spot with 22 cases and 33 victims within 2025. In December of 2024, a mass shooting in Towson left nine people injured and one person dead near their homes.

Two men missing from Inland Empire were members of same religious organization, investigators say
Investigators have released new details as they continue their search for a missing Tennessee man who was last seen at a coffee shop in Redlands in 2023. They say that they are now looking into the disappearance as a homicide. Emilio Salem Ghanem, who is believed to be in his mid-40s, was reported missing shortly after he visited a Starbucks on Redlands Boulevard on May 25, 2023, according to the Redlands Police Department. "A rented Nissan Frontier pickup that Ghanem was driving was spotted on surveillance video later that day in Grand Terrace," the release said. "Detectives have since recovered the rental truck along with other evidence." Police say that he rented the vehicle from a location in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is described as standing about 5-foot-7 and weighing approximately 130 pounds with hazel eyes and black hair. He was 40 at the time of his disappearance, police said. Police say that Ghanem was a member of "His Way Spirit Led Assemblies," a religious organization based in Hemet. They say that he left the organization shortly before he disappeared, and that he also worked for Fullshield, Inc. a pest control business owned and operated by the religious group. The business now operates under the name Maxguard, police said. While looking into his disappearance, RPD detectives learned that another man who was a member of His Way Spirit Led Assemblies was also reported missing in recent years. That case is being investigated by Claremont Police Department, who say that 49-year-old Ruben Moreno was reported missing in August 2019 and has not been seen since. They noted that he was also a member of the same religious organization as Ghanem. Moreno is described as standing 5-foot-6 and weighing about 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. Anyone who knows more is urged to contact RPD at (909) 551-4424 or CPD at (909) 399-5411.

His crimes were uncovered after he was found asleep in someone else's house
A man's crimes were uncovered after police found him fast asleep at a house with thousands worth of drugs next to him. Callum Williams was found to be playing a "significant role" in dealing cocaine on the streets. Cardiff Crown Court heard that on May 29, 2025, police officers were called to a house on Parker Road in Ely, which had been left unsecured. Officers didn't expect to find anyone there as the tenant was in prison but when they arrived they found Williams asleep on the sofa. Sophie Keegan, prosecuting, told the court that Williams, 30, said to officers that he had been out the night before and had slept there as it was one of his friend's houses. Williams told officers there was some cocaine there for his own personal use but said the rest of it was nothing to do with him. When the officers tested the white powder they found it was cocaine worth between £1,140 and £1,500. Upstairs in the house they found digital weighing scales and more cocaine, bringing the total amount to about 550g. The Nokia phone revealed messages relating to drugs sales and had the contact details of Williams' family members stored on it, suggesting it was his mobile. The court heard that Williams has 12 previous convictions for 19 offences and was last in court in 2017. He has only been in court for drug offences once before in 2011, relating to the possession of cannabis when he was a juvenile. Cora Sorensen, for the defendant, told the court that at the time her client had recently become estranged from his family and was homeless as a result. She explained he had also been in poor health and his face was injured at the time of his arrest. She added that since Williams has been in custody he has been trying to "avail himself of drugs" and for this reason his family were in court supporting him. Williams, of Heol Poyston, Caerau, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to the offence of possession and intent to supply cocaine. Don't miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here. Recorder Claire Pickthall said: "It's clear that you had an awareness of the extent of the operation and it's clear that you were dealing to street users." She added: "I accept that you are a cocaine addict and were in the depths of a cocaine addiction at the time." Recorder Pickthall sentenced Williams to four years and six months in prison of which she said he will serve up to half in custody before being released. A POCA hearing is due to be held at a later date. Get daily breaking news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here.
