Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski responds to missing out on Pichichi to Kylian Mbappé

Frontman Lewandowski, for his part, is fresh off his latest goalscoring outing this evening.

After Barcelona made the trip to the Basque Country for a La Liga meeting with Athletic Club, the Pole notched both of his side's goals en route to a 2-0 triumph.
This, however, did not prove enough to get the Pole even within touching distance of Pichichi winner Kylian Mbappé.
After finding the net to the tune of a brace of his own against Real Sociedad on Saturday, Real Madrid's star summer addition took his tally for the campaign in Spain's top-flight to 31 goals.
Lewandowski, on the other hand, finished the campaign with 27 to his name.
After the latter led the race for the Pichichi throughout much of the term, he was in turn drawn on the situation post-match at San Mamés tonight.
And Lewandowski went on to admit:
'I feel a little sad that I couldn't win the Pichichi award. I struggled a bit to return to my best shape after my injury, but that's normal.'

Breakout Real Madrid starlet set to be called up for Osasuna meeting
A breakthrough member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is expected to be afforded a call-up for the club's season opener next week. That's according to El Chiringuito TV, who point towards Thiago Pitarch as the player in question. The name of youngster Pitarch has of course emerged as a prominent one in the chatter surrounding Real Madrid over the last week. This comes after word that the 18-year-old had been called up to first-team training in Spain's capital was quickly followed by confirmation that Xabi Alonso had been left dazzled by Pitarch's talents. As much culminated in the midfielder being handed a new Blancos contract this weekend. And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then Pitarch's sudden emergence looks set to be taken up another notch over the days ahead. As per a report from El Chiringuito TV: 'Pitarch will not play against Ibiza with Castilla. Extended until 2030, everything suggests that Xabi Alonso is counting on him against Osasuna.' Marcus Rashford makes Barcelona debut and Harry Kane lifts silverware in Germany
Marcus Rashford made his competitive debut for Barcelona off the bench as they launched their LaLiga campaign with a 3-0 win at nine-man Mallorca. Rashford, bidding to reignite his career after joining Barca on loan in July, was a second-half replacement for Ferran Torres in the 69th minute. Raphinha's early header and Torres' effort midway through the first half put Hansi Flick's side in control before Mallorca midfielder Manu Morlanes was sent off for his second yellow card. Mallorca were reduced to nine men before half-time when VAR upgraded Vedat Muriqi's yellow card to a red following his foul on Joan Garcia. Raphinha and Dani Olmo both hit the woodwork and Lamine Yamal added a third goal in stoppage time. Elsewhere in Spain, Nahuel Tenaglia's stoppage-time winner clinched Alaves a 2-1 win at Levante and Valencia were held 1-1 at home in their opening match by Real Sociedad. Harry Kane lifted silverware in Germany after he and former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz scored in Bayern Munich's 2-1 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup win over Stuttgart. Kane struck in the 18th minute, marking his first Supercup appearance with a goal and his seventh in five games against Stuttgart. Debutant Diaz, having been quiet for much of the night, then made sure when he ran on to Serge Gnabry's cross to head home from close range in the 77th minute, with Jamie Leweling's stoppage-time header merely consolation for Stuttgart. In Ligue 1, former Tottenham defender Eric Dier scored on his debut for Monaco as they made a winning start by beating Le Havre 3-1 at home. Dier, who joined Monaco as a free agent this summer after his contract at Bayern Munich had expired, headed home in the 61st minute after Gautier Lloris' own goal had given the visitors a half-time lead. Rassoul Ndiaye pulled one back for Le Havre before Maghnes Akliouche sealed the points for the visitors by adding their third. Nice exited the Champions League this week after a 4-0 aggregate defeat to Benfica and they slipped up in their Ligue 1 opener, losing 1-0 at home to Toulouse thanks to Djibril Sidibe's late winner. Lyon forward Georges Mikautadze struck the only goal in their opening game at Lens to secure his side a 1-0 win.

Lamine Yamal Scores Stunner in Barcelona's LaLiga Opener Win Over Mallorca
Barcelona began the defense of its La Liga title with a comfortable 3-0 win at Mallorca, scoring early and taking advantage of two first-half red cards for the hosts on Saturday. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, who led Barcelona's prolific attack last season, needed only seven minutes to impress again. Yamal's curling cross found Raphinha by the far post and the Brazil forward headed in from close range. Ferran Torres' shot from outside the area in the 23rd was a goal that drew complaints by Mallorca because one of its players was on the ground after being hit by the ball in the head in the buildup. Some Mallorca players stopped playing after their teammate went down, but the referee allowed play to continue. Mallorca immediately complained after Ferran scored. The hosts went a man down 10 minutes later when Manu Morlanes was sent off for a second yellow card for fouling Yamal on the run. His first yellow was for protesting Barcelona's second goal. The second red card in the 39th came from Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi hitting the head of Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia with his left foot while reaching up for a high ball. The referee changed the card from yellow to red after a video review. Yamal made it 3-0 in second half stoppage time by hitting the top corner. Barcelona, which won the league last season after scoring 102 goals, was without veteran striker Robert Lewandowski because of an injury. Newly signed forward Marcus Rashford went in as a substitute in the 69th. Garcia didn't have to work much on his Barcelona debut after being signed in the offseason on a transfer from city rival Espanyol. Regular starting goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is out after undergoing lower back surgery, and García started ahead of Wojciech Szczesny and Inaki Pena, who replaced Ter Stegen last season.
