Hyderabad: Finance Commission Secretary Smita Sabharwal made interesting comments after the government removed her from the Tourism Department stating, 'One has the right to their actions but not to its results.'
Taking to X, Smita Sabharwal quoted a verse from Bhagawad Gita, stating, 'Karmanye vadhikaraste, ma phaleshu kadachana". She said that she strove hard in the Tourism Department for the last four months in bringing accountability. 'Karmanye vadhikaraste, ma phaleshu kadachana" #IAS. Spent 4 months in Tourism. Did my best! Brought in the long pending Tourism Policy 25-30, a first for the State. Will create a solid frame for direction and investment in neglected tourist circuits. Revamped the working style of the dept and tried to infuse accountability. Laid the foundation for the logistics and planning- for a global event which I am sure will open doors to many more! Pleasure and honor,' said Smita on her transfer.
Recently, Sabharwal made a comment on social media questioning the government's stance on the Kancha Gachibowli land allotment issue in the suburbs of Hyderabad, which had become a topic of discussion. It is said that she was removed for posting against the government. She had received a notice from the police for re-tweeting a post on the Kancha Gachibowli issue.

Tour operators meet J&K CM, discuss ways to promote tourism
A delegation from the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss the revival of tourism in the State, which has been affected following the Pahalgam terror attacks. The 30-member delegation was led by Ravi Gosain, President of IATO. Mr. Abdullah assured the delegation of the safety and security of the tourists and urged them to spread the word that Kashmir was safe to travel to. Also present at the meeting were Yasha Mudgal, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Tourism Department and Raja Yaqoob Farooq, Director Tourism – Kashmir, the IATO said in a statement. The delegation met the CM as part of three-day 'Rubaroo Jammu and Kashmir' campaign by the IATO. 'It was important to assess the ground situation and during our three-day tour, we found the State as safe as any other place. Besides, we have assurances from the highest echelons of the government and that gives us all huge confidence and I am sure tourist flow to the State would be back to normal in times to come,' Mr. Gosain said. The IATO had earlier said that there was nearly 40% cancellations of tours following the Pahalgam incident. 'Obviously the sentiment was hit, but it is important to restore confidence and revive tourism. The visit is a step in this direction and we are completely satisfied with safety arrangements made by the government', Mr. Gosain added. The IATO is the national body of the tourism industry. It has over 1600 members covering all segments of Tourism Industry. It was established in 1982.

Court denies bail to man accused of cheating by impersonating Delhi CM's aide
Observing that 'economic offences are serious in nature,' a sessions court last week rejected a bail plea of a man booked for cheating a city-based businessman of Rs. 8.74 lakh under the garb of securing a tender for him claiming that he had a 'close acquaintance' with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. While an additional sessions judge passed an order on bail application by one Sunny Gupta on June 13, the detailed court order was made available on Monday. The Mumbai Police, through its Azad Maidan Police station had on May 7 arrested Sunny Bhadri Gupta alias Manish Singh under the offences of cheating and criminal intimidation, based on a complaint filed by a businessman Kundan Singh. As per prosecution, in March, this year, Singh met Gupta at a programme organised at a friend's residence in Andheri (West) area, where Singh informed Gupta about a print media tender issued by Delhi Tourism department, and that he was making efforts to secure the same. In response, Gupta allegedly responded that he had 'close acquaintance' with Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and assured Singh that he could arrange an introduction and assist him in procuring the tender. On March 26, Gupta allegedly told Singh that in order to secure the tender, it would be necessary to present gifts, expensive clothes, gold ornaments and cash of Rs 5 to 6 lakhs to the Delhi CM. The complainant further said that when he inquired whether the tender would be definitely awarded to him, Gupta gave an assurance and made a phone call in Singh's presence, purporting to discuss the tender. As per Singh, the bail applicant displayed caller ID on his mobile screen which showed the name 'Rekha Gupta,' which led Singh to believe that the applicant had genuine access and influence and which would indeed help secure the tender as promised. Thereafter, as per complaint, Singh paid Rs. 8.74 lakh to Gupta through different transactions including gifts, expensive clothes, gold ornaments and online payments and the transactions were allegedly carried out in presence of Singh's friend. On March 31, Singh and Gupta were to visit Delhi for work related to the concerned tender, however, as per complainant, Gupta did not accompany him. After reaching Delhi, Singh contacted Gupta, but did not receive any response, after which he returned to Mumbai. As per Singh, he then demanded returned money, but Gupta allegedly failed to repay the same and instead sent death threats to Singh, prompting him to lodge a police complaint. Gupta claimed that he never received any money from Singh and he was falsely implicated in the case, therefore he should be released on bail. After perusing submissions, the court noted that the amount in question was not received till date and investigation was still on. 'In such circumstances, if the applicant/accused is released on bail, there is a possibility that he may tamper with evidence which may hamper prosecution.. It is not proper to release the applicant/accused on bail at this stage,' the court held and rejected bail plea.

Minister H.K. Patil reviews progress of various tourism projects in Kalaburagi
H.K. Patil, Minister for Law, Justice, Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation, and Tourism, conducted his department's progress review meeting on Saturday regarding various tourism projects identified under the 2020-25 Karnataka Tourism Policy. During the meeting held at the old Aiwan-e-Shahi guest house, Mr. Patil engaged with officials to assess the status of ongoing projects and sought updates on pending works. Anusuyya M. Huggar, deputy director of the Tourism Department, said that the concept report for ₹83.5 crore has been prepared for the development of Ganagapura in Afzalpur taluk and submitted to the government for approval. She stated that once funds are released, all essential infrastructure for tourism development would be provided. Additionally, a ₹100 lakh pilgrim accommodation project at Gattargi village is progressing. Officials also briefed the Minister on proposals submitted for the development of tourist destinations. Mr. Patil promised that he would work closely with relevant authorities to expedite the release of funds for tourism projects. He also highlighted that the 2024-25 Budget included plans for water adventure sports and tourism activities at Chandramapalli reservoir, which have recently commenced. The Minister added that several key tourist sites in Kalaburagi district were included under the 'Tourism Mitra' scheme, with 48 personnel appointed to assist visitors. Mr. Patil added that unemployed individuals would receive four to five months of skill development training, and ₹5 lakh financial assistance for mobile canteen operations under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) for Scheduled Castes and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) to Scheduled Tribes. Three new proposals have been submitted, including land allocations for tourism activities in Atanur in Afzalpur taluk (2 acres, 30 guntas) and Kesartagi in Kalaburagi taluk (3.5 acres). Officials informed the Minister that ₹1,359 crore has been sanctioned for tourism projects across six implementing agencies. Rajaram, assistant director of Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, said that the discussions were on in his department for heritage conservation efforts at Nagavi's 60 Pillar temple, Nandeshwara temple, Kari mosque, Sanjeevini Anjaneya temple, and archaeological exploration at Madhusudana temple. He added that a detailed project report was submitted for Kanaganahalli Information Centre in Chittapur taluk, with site inspections conducted by Dwijaa Associates and IDIC Bengaluru.
