Minister H.K. Patil reviews progress of various tourism projects in Kalaburagi
During the meeting held at the old Aiwan-e-Shahi guest house, Mr. Patil engaged with officials to assess the status of ongoing projects and sought updates on pending works.
Anusuyya M. Huggar, deputy director of the Tourism Department, said that the concept report for ₹83.5 crore has been prepared for the development of Ganagapura in Afzalpur taluk and submitted to the government for approval. She stated that once funds are released, all essential infrastructure for tourism development would be provided.
Additionally, a ₹100 lakh pilgrim accommodation project at Gattargi village is progressing. Officials also briefed the Minister on proposals submitted for the development of tourist destinations.
Mr. Patil promised that he would work closely with relevant authorities to expedite the release of funds for tourism projects. He also highlighted that the 2024-25 Budget included plans for water adventure sports and tourism activities at Chandramapalli reservoir, which have recently commenced.
The Minister added that several key tourist sites in Kalaburagi district were included under the 'Tourism Mitra' scheme, with 48 personnel appointed to assist visitors.
Mr. Patil added that unemployed individuals would receive four to five months of skill development training, and ₹5 lakh financial assistance for mobile canteen operations under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) for Scheduled Castes and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) to Scheduled Tribes.
Three new proposals have been submitted, including land allocations for tourism activities in Atanur in Afzalpur taluk (2 acres, 30 guntas) and Kesartagi in Kalaburagi taluk (3.5 acres).
Officials informed the Minister that ₹1,359 crore has been sanctioned for tourism projects across six implementing agencies.
Rajaram, assistant director of Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, said that the discussions were on in his department for heritage conservation efforts at Nagavi's 60 Pillar temple, Nandeshwara temple, Kari mosque, Sanjeevini Anjaneya temple, and archaeological exploration at Madhusudana temple.
He added that a detailed project report was submitted for Kanaganahalli Information Centre in Chittapur taluk, with site inspections conducted by Dwijaa Associates and IDIC Bengaluru.

SC orders SIT probe into Noida land compensation payout irregularities
The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered an SIT probe into alleged irregularities in payment of compensation to land owners by Noida Authority, which in several cases was 'exorbitant' highlighting the nexus between senior officials and land owners. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi ordered a new special investigation team (SIT) of three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, replacing the earlier SIT, which highlighted the irregularities in the land acquisition compensation payouts. The apex court also directed that there will be no project development in Noida without prior Environmental Impact Assessment and approval by the court's green bench, which hears environmental cases. In January this year, the court had constituted an SIT of three senior IPS officers from the UP cadre to investigate the 'overall functioning' of Noida Authority. The SIT report found that in at least 20 cases, land compensation paid to certain beneficiaries exceeded legal entitlements. It also named errant Noida Authority officials and raised concerns about potential collusion, centralised power, and a lack of transparency in the administrative operations of the authority. The SIT report also highlighted that major decisions were being taken without public oversight or updates. The court is currently hearing the anticipatory bail plea of a law officer of Noida over charges of 'release of huge amount of compensation in favour of some land owners who, it was alleged, were not entitled to seek such a higher compensation for their acquired land.' The new SIT, formed by the court on Wednesday, is directed to register preliminary enquiries and, if they find credible evidence of wrongdoing, escalate to FIRs under appropriate legal provisions. The court said that this process must be overseen by a police officer of at least Commissioner rank, who will also file periodic status reports to the court. The court has also told the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary to place the findings before the Council of Ministers and appoint a Chief Vigilance Officer (from IPS cadre or deputed from the Comptroller and Auditor General) within four weeks. Additionally, a citizen advisory board is to be constituted within the same timeframe. The matter has been adjourned for eight weeks, during which the SIT's report must remain under strict judicial supervision.

The visually-impaired persons are at the highest risk of dog bites as their primary support, their canes, are seen as threats by the dogs," it said. The bench also said there is no way one can identify or classify between a rabies-carrying dog and other dogs. "It is often said that 'no person is above the law'. However, of equal significance is the flip side of that maxim -- 'no person is below the law' either," it said.

HC dismisses plea for National Centre for Ageing in every district
Madurai: The Madras high court has dismissed a public interest litigation seeking the establishment of a National Centre for Ageing in all districts across the state. The petition, filed by K K Ramesh of Madurai, claimed that many elderly parents are neglected by their children and sent to homes that often lack proper facilities and medical care. He sought a court direction to set up such centres in every district. A division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice A D Maria Clete noted that welfare schemes for senior citizens are already being implemented by both the state and central governments. The adequacy or number of such centres, the judges said, is a policy matter for the government to decide and cannot be determined by the court. The bench therefore dismissed the plea.
