Cabinet to meet twice a month to accelerate policy implementation
Hyderabad: In a bid to resolve pending administrative issues at higher level and accelerate the implementation of the welfare and development programmes in the state, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is said to have decided to hold one state Cabinet meeting every fortnight. Accordingly, there will be a second Cabinet meeting later this month.
It is likely that Cabinet meetings are held on the first and third Saturday every month. During these meetings, the Cabinet will review every pending issue in every department and expedite policy making.
Sources said that the next Cabinet meeting will also discuss the report submitted by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) on the multi-purpose Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. It would also discuss recommendations made by the Vigilance Commission against the irrigation officials involved in the construction of the project.
In the marathon meeting held on Friday, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy made a power point presentation on the NDSA report and the status of three barrages – Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla, which were damaged.
Officials said that the Chief Minister will take a call on the NDSA and Vigilance Commission reports in the next Cabinet meeting.
Sources said that the ministers brought to the notice of the Chief Minister the development works that were pending due to administrative hurdles. In a quick response, Revanth Reddy asked his Cabinet colleagues to come up with an action plan and detailed notes on such important issues in the next Cabinet meeting.
The Chief Minister and ministers will also analyze the status of the progress of each scheme and development work in every Assembly constituency. They will rectify the pending issues, if any, immediately in consultation with the officials. If required, the Cabinet will also summon respective Secretaries to seek clarifications on the pending issues.
Issues like farmers' welfare, clearance of pending bills of the government and retired employees, Indiramma houses, issuing of ration cards, job recruitments, irrigation projects and investigation in the phone tapping case, Formula E race case and Kaleshwaram scheme will be included in the agenda of every Cabinet meeting from this month.
Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao has already been asked to prepare the list of the pending issues in every department and present the same in the next Cabinet meeting.

'Entire cabinet' took call on barrage sites, former finance minister Eatala tells Kaleshwaram panel
HYDERABAD: BJP MP and former finance minister Eatala Rajender on Friday told the Justice PC Ghose Commission of Inquiry that the decision to construct the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, including the selection of barrage sites, was taken collectively by the 'entire Cabinet' and not by the Finance department. The commission posed 19 questions to Rajender and cross-examined him for 20 minutes. The Kaleshwaram Commission has summoned Rajender, former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former Irrigation minister T Harish Rao for cross-examination. Harish Rao is scheduled to appear before the Commission on June 9 and KCR on June 11. Rajender, who served as finance minister from June 2014 to December 2018 during the BRS regime, told the commission that although a barrage was initially proposed at Tummidihetti with an estimated cost of `38,000 crore, it was later shifted to Medigadda due to objections raised by the Central Water Commission (CWC) and the Maharashtra government. He explained that Maharashtra had objected to the submergence of a large area, including a wildlife sanctuary, within its territory. The neighbouring state had also insisted on reducing the height of the Tummidihetti barrage from 152 metres to 148 metres. 'Project cost escalated following ryots' additional demands' Rajender said the government had planned to allocate 30 tmcft of water for urban drinking purposes, 15 tmcft for industrial use and another 10 tmcft for rural drinking water needs, in addition to targeting irrigation for 16.5 lakh acres. As the water availability at Tummidihetti was insufficient to meet these requirements, the source was shifted to Medigadda. He further stated that a Cabinet sub-committee — comprising the then Irrigation minister T Harish Rao, R&B minister Thummala Nageswara Rao and himself — was constituted by the then chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to vet the technical committee's report on the project and present it to the Cabinet.

TPCC chief accuses Eatala of shielding KCR, demands BJP clarify stand on Kaleshwaram corruption
HYDERABAD: Levelling serious corruption allegations against former BRS leader and ex-finance minister Eatala Rajender, who is now a BJP MP, after he deposed before PC Ghose Commission that is investigating the alleged irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday demanded that the saffron party clarify if Rajender's statement. According to him, it was in favour of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's family -- was personal one or party's official stance. In a press statement issued here, Mahesh Goud said that Rajender 'downplayed' KCR's role in the project, stating that the latter had tried to shift responsibility onto the state Cabinet, claiming that the decisions regarding KLIS were made collectively. Mahesh Goud said that it was absurd on the part of Rajender, who held the Finance portfolio during the BRS regime, to distance himself from the financial decisions made during that period. 'The whole country knows that there was massive corruption in the Kaleshwaram project,' he said. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah repeatedly stated that the Kaleshwaram project turned into an 'ATM' for the KCR family. Yet, Rajender's statement today clearly indicates collusion between him and KCR,' he added. The TPCC chief raised further concerns, questioning whether BJP leaders were also involved in the alleged corruption and whether Rajender's statement was somehow linked to kickbacks from the project. He demanded that the BJP clarify if these were the personal views of Rajender or part of the party's official policy. He suggested that Rajender's support for KCR was likely due to his own involvement in the Kaleshwaram project. He went on to criticize Rajender's claim that the estimates for the project had been revised due to public pressure. He expressed disbelief, implying that Rajender was still loyal to KCR and his party. 'Rajender has effectively acted as an advocate for KCR. It appears that KCR, Harish Rao, and Rajender have all conspired to give the same answers when questioned,' he added.

CM Revanth lays foundation for Rs 1,051 crore projects in Alair, including Gandhamalla reservoir, school, hospital
YADADRIBHUVANAGIRI: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stones for a slew of development works totalling Rs 1,051.45 crore in the Alair Assembly constituency, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on Friday. The projects aim to significantly boost infrastructure and public amenities in the region. Among the major projects for which foundation stones were laid is the Gandhamalla reservoir, a crucial undertaking with an estimated cost of Rs 574.56 crore. The CM also initiated the construction of a Young India Residential School, a project valued at Rs 200 crore, emphasising the government's focus on education and a medical college building at a cost of Rs 183 crore, promising enhanced healthcare facilities for the area. Further development initiatives include comprehensive works within Yadagirigutta Municipality, encompassing the construction of water, drainage, CC and BT roads, all to be taken up at a cost of Rs 25.50 crore. Connectivity will also see a boost with the construction of a high-level bridge in Kolanupaka village and Kalvapalli village costing Rs 7.50 crore and Rs 6 crore respectively. Administrative infrastructure will be strengthened in Motakondur mandal with the construction of Tahsildar, MPDO offices and a police station, a combined project costing Rs 8.25 crore. To support the agricultural sector, foundation stones were laid for 20,000 metric tonne capacity godowns in Datarpally village with an outlay of Rs 22.75 crore and 2,500 metric tonne capacity godowns in Aleru Market Committee at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore. Road infrastructure across the Alair Assembly segment will also see improvement with the construction of BT roads costing Rs 21.14 crore.
