Broncos star suffers sickening head injury as he knocks himself out while trying to score a try - as Brisbane heap more pressure on under-fire coach
Brisbane won their fifth game in a row 26-14 at Robina on Sunday to stay fifth in the NRL standings and keep alive their top-four hopes.
But the victory was marred for Michael Maguire's side, as Brendan Piakura suffered a sickening head injury as he attempted to score a try.
The second-rower knocked on early while attempting to score after an Adam Reynolds kick.
The incident took place as he charged after the ball and slid to ground it while inside the in-goal area.
But his head crashed into the turf and he worryingly stayed down for several moments.
Several of the 23-year-old's team-mates quickly arrived by showed immediate concern as the forward lay on the ground with his head in the turf.
'He's not in a good way here, Piakura,' Fox League commentator Cooper Cronk said.
He failed his HIA and did not return to the footy pitch.
Brisbane will stay fifth in the NRL standings and keep alive their top-four hopes.
The last-placed Titans had chances to win but failed to ice the key moments.
It was a far from convincing display by the Broncos, who were error-riddled in the first-half. Luckily for them, their opponents were no better.
Walsh scored a try and set one up when the match was on the line, while centre Kotoni Staggs was a powerhouse and the best player on the field.
The scores were locked at 2-2 until the Broncos scored twice in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 14-2 halftime lead.
The Broncos finally went over in the 34th minute, and it was rookie 26-year-old prop Ben Talty who scored his first NRL try in just his second match.
Staggs swooped on a loose pass minutes later when it appeared the Titans would score, and back-rower Jack Gosiewski scored at the other end after a Walsh pass.
Walsh started and finished a long-range try after the break and topped it off with a back-flip somersault to boot to give his side a 20-2 lead.
Two tries to Titans centre Jojo Fifita inside nine minutes lit up the 24, 553 fans. An AJ Brimson grubber and a superb interchange between half Jayden Campbell and forward Chris Randall set up the four-pointers.
The Titans went close to levelling before Broncos hooker Billy Walters scored at the other end.
Speculation has been intense that Hasler is a dead man walking with his future prospects with the club, despite being contracted until the end of 2026.
His side played with commitment on Sunday, but also a lack of attention to detail.
Titans centre Brian Kelly had a shocker, with five errors costing his side dearly.

Collingwood veteran Jeremy Howe has opened up on the shocking aftermath of a devastating injury that left him taking so much medication he couldn't pick up his son. Howe suffered three separate breaks in his arm after he landed awkwardly during the Pies' round-one clash with Geelong in 2023, the pain of which he described as 'like a blowtorch to my arm'. And that was just the start of his problems. Surgery on the injury did not go according to plan and he had to return to hospital to treat an infection in the same arm, ultimately sidelining him for four months. 'It was the pills and the painkillers that got me the most,' Howe told Unfiltered with Hamish McLachlan. 'I've taken anti–inflams and I've taken pain relief to get through games flat-out – it's probably not ideal but it's generally what I've done. 'Taking so many antibiotics, painkillers, all at the same time, for a large period of time, 11 days in a row. 'I was in such a haze I had no emotion. I didn't know what I was doing. (My wife) Kahlia would bring (our son) Zander in and I couldn't pick him up, I wasn't allowed to touch him. 'I questioned everything - is this really worth this, is this what I want to be at 32? I'm not even capable of picking my son up. 'If I can't be a husband and I can't be a dad, footy just gets parked and that's genuinely when I thought I was going to scrap it.' Howe, who has likened the trauma from his brutal arm injury to that of a car accident, says he still has nerve damage. 'I've got no feeling in my thumb,' he said. 'I don't know when that will come back.' Howe was kept on 'about a dozen' antibiotics for a long while after his accident so that the infection didn't return, and that created its own problems. 'I was taking so many antibiotics and the strength of what they were, my gut started eroding from the inside and ended up having to go back into hospital and getting more pills trying to fight what the other antibiotics are doing while I'm still playing,' he said. 'I was questioning, is this really worth doing this? I don't want to be 40 and all of a sudden my intestines are gone. Cooked. 'I managed to wean myself off the antibiotics... It was either stop playing and get the metal out or scrap the antibiotics and pray the infection never came back. 'So we just stopped the antibiotics... and it (the infection) never came back. 'I got off them and it instantly made me feel better. And I managed to win a flag at the end of the year.' In March 2025, the footy star and his wife welcomed their second child into the world just 24 hours before the Magpies' season opener against GWS. The delighted couple shared the news that three–year–old son Zander now has a baby brother named Saxon.

Moesha Johnson wins Australia's first 10km open-water swimming gold at world championships
Moesha Johnson has won Australia's first 10km open water world title as compatriot Kyle Lee opened the team medal tally with bronze in the men's race. It is Australia's fifth open water world title over all distances with Johnson and Lee in the quartet that will defend the mixed-team title at the Singapore world aquatics championships. The water temperature was 30C and conditions were described on social media as 'human soup'. There were also two postponements for the 10km events because of water quality concerns. Johnson, who claimed silver in the same event at the Paris Olympics, won in two hours seven minutes 51.30 seconds. It is also her first individual open water world championship. She finished 4.40 seconds ahead of Italian Ginevra Taddeucci and Lisa Pou from Monaco won bronze. Fellow Australian and Paris Olympics teammate Chelsea Gubecka finished ninth. The two open-water events were postponed at Palawan Beach on Sentosa Island, south of Singapore, because of the dirty sea water. Organisers then said water samples collected on Tuesday afternoon had shown a 'significant improvement' and went ahead with Wednesday competition. 'That was definitely harder than Paris,' Johnson said. 'The heat, 36-hour delay, the strong currents … that was one of the hardest circumstances and open water conditions I have been part of. 'Since the Olympics I have tried to embrace every opportunity and race with the feeling that I have nothing left to prove … I've had back-to-back illnesses but my family and faith got me through. 'And to all those that finished today … hats off to you. All open water skills were on display today. German Florian Wellbrock won his sixth open-water world championship, clocking one hour 59 minutes 55.50 seconds.
