Austin Hill sparks major Watkins Glen wreck draws criticism from McDowell after late-race contact
With nine laps to go, Hill was battling Michael McDowell, Zane Smith, and Sam Mayer as they chased race leader Connor Zilisch. Coming out of Turn 5, Hill made contact with the rear of McDowell's car, sparking a chain reaction involving multiple drivers.
Hill accepted responsibility for the contact but framed it as part of hard racing. 'Just two guys going for it. Nothing malicious, as much as everybody wants to make it more than it is,' Hill told Frontstretch. He explained he was trying to close in on Zilisch, who was pulling away, and believed he had a chance to catch McDowell off guard. 'I had a massive run off the Carousel… I thought I could get to his left side,' Hill said.
While Hill described the move as aggressive competition, McDowell offered a different view. He said Hill had been bumping him for the previous two laps. 'He turned me for sure… there is no way he was gonna get alongside me,' McDowell told NASCAR.com. Though he did not accuse Hill of intentionally hooking him, McDowell said Hill chose 'not to lift' and forced the spin. He stressed the move was not the same as a dangerous right-rear hook on an oval track.
The incident comes weeks after NASCAR suspended Hill for one race following a crash at Iowa. As of Sunday, it remains unclear whether additional disciplinary action will be taken, according to Fox News.
The Mission 200 at The Glen continued without Hill in contention, and Zilisch maintained his lead to the finish.

Angela Hill parodies McGregor DM controversy
UFC strawweight veteran Angela Hill, known as 'Overkill,' added her own twist to the ongoing Conor McGregor–Azealia Banks scandal with a humorous post aimed at UFC broadcaster Laura Sanko. On X (formerly Twitter), Hill shared a mock direct message she sent to Sanko that included a photo of herself squatting with a kettlebell hanging between her legs, accompanied by the caption, 'Lifting weights.' The post was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the explicit image Banks alleges McGregor sent her, which reportedly featured a similar pose involving a weight. The parody quickly gained traction among MMA fans and fighters alike. Supporters praised Hill's comedic timing and willingness to poke fun at a viral situation that's otherwise been met with criticism and concern. Comments flooded in, including, 'Lmfao! Well played,' and 'Angela Hill wins the internet.' Lmfao!! Well played — Brian Nicholas (@bizzleBri44) July 14, 2025 I saw this before I saw the Conor shit and was like 'oh that's so sweet Laura and Angela send each other motivational progress pics.' I wish I never learned the context. 😂 — elise blagojevich (@eliseblago) July 14, 2025 Hill, who is scheduled to face Iasmin Lucindo at UFC Vegas 109 on August 9, has built a reputation not only as a seasoned fighter but also as one of the sport's more candid and witty personalities on social media. While neither McGregor nor Sanko have responded publicly to the post, Hill's lighthearted take has added a satirical angle to a controversy that has dominated headlines across MMA circles.

Jemele Hill and Kate Fagan return to ESPN's Around the Horn for final appearance
Two popular ESPN alumni, Jemele Hill and Kate Fagan, are set to return for one last appearance on Around the Horn this Thursday, May 9, 2025. Their one-day comeback comes as part of a sendoff for the iconic debate show, which is set to air its final episode on May 23 after over two decades on air. Both Hill and Fagan were fan favorites during their original stints on the program. Hill worked at ESPN from 2006 to 2018, serving as a columnist, SportsCenter anchor, and co-host of His & Hers. Fagan, a former basketball standout, was with the network from 2012 to 2018, contributing across ESPN platforms including espnW, Outside the Lines, and The Magazine. Around the Horn, which premiered in 2002, has long featured rotating journalists debating the day's biggest sports stories. The program's longevity has made it one of ESPN's most enduring daily shows. Executive VP David Roberts praised the team behind ATH, stating, 'That kind of longevity in media is incredibly rare.' No permanent replacement has been announced for Around the Horn's 5 p.m. ET slot. Beginning May 26, a special 30-minute edition of SportsCenter will temporarily fill the time slot. As ESPN prepares to bid farewell to a major part of its afternoon lineup, the return of Hill and Fagan offers a nostalgic moment for longtime viewers of Around the Horn.
