Connor Zilisch injury update: NASCAR driver falls after winning Xfinity Series race

Connor Zilisch's celebration of his NASCAR Xfinity Series win on Saturday, Aug. 9, quickly turned into a scary moment. While in Victory Lane following the Mission 200 at The Glen, the 19-year-old JR Motorsports driver placed his right foot on the roof of his No. 88 Chevrolet and his left foot on the window. He then appeared to lose his balance, with his left foot getting caught inside his car and twisting as he fell hard to the pavement. Zilisch did not immediately move. Medical personnel put him on a backboard and loaded him into an ambulance. He was transported to the infield care center before being moved to a local hospital for further evaluation. It was later determined he broke his collarbone. Connor Zilisch injury update Zilisch was released from the hospital Saturday evening. He offered his own update on social media. At Watkins Glen, he earned his sixth victory of the season. He remains one of NASCAR's most talented prospects and is expected to jump to the Cup Series full-time next season. Zilisch was scheduled to run the Cup Series' Go Bowling at The Glen for Trackhouse Racing on Sunday. He qualified 25th early Saturday afternoon. But Trackhouse released a statement Saturday night announcing it was withdrawing Zilisch's entry. Each car on the inside row that lined up behind Zilisch will move up a row. Austin Hill sparks major Watkins Glen wreck draws criticism from McDowell after late-race contact

Austin Hill triggered a multi-car crash in Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International, drawing criticism from competitors, Fox News reported. With nine laps to go, Hill was battling Michael McDowell, Zane Smith, and Sam Mayer as they chased race leader Connor Zilisch. Coming out of Turn 5, Hill made contact with the rear of McDowell's car, sparking a chain reaction involving multiple drivers. Hill accepted responsibility for the contact but framed it as part of hard racing. 'Just two guys going for it. Nothing malicious, as much as everybody wants to make it more than it is,' Hill told Frontstretch. He explained he was trying to close in on Zilisch, who was pulling away, and believed he had a chance to catch McDowell off guard. 'I had a massive run off the Carousel… I thought I could get to his left side,' Hill said. While Hill described the move as aggressive competition, McDowell offered a different view. He said Hill had been bumping him for the previous two laps. 'He turned me for sure… there is no way he was gonna get alongside me,' McDowell told Though he did not accuse Hill of intentionally hooking him, McDowell said Hill chose 'not to lift' and forced the spin. He stressed the move was not the same as a dangerous right-rear hook on an oval track. The incident comes weeks after NASCAR suspended Hill for one race following a crash at Iowa. As of Sunday, it remains unclear whether additional disciplinary action will be taken, according to Fox News. The Mission 200 at The Glen continued without Hill in contention, and Zilisch maintained his lead to the finish.

Controversial NASCAR driver sparks horrific mass car wreck... on return from suspension over past crash

The NASCAR Xfinity Series Mission 200 descended into chaos after one driver sparked a massive car wreck on Saturday afternoon. In worrying scenes at Watkins Glen International, Austin Hill attempted to pull up alongside Michael McDowell as they battled for second place on Lap 74. However, the two cars ended up colliding after they both ran wide, with McDowell's car slamming into the guardrail before spinning out into the middle of the track. The crash had major knock-on effects for the rest of the drivers who were unable to slow down in time and, in the end, over a dozen of the drivers were affected. The red flag was quickly displayed and lasted for over 45 minutes as officials repaired the guardrail and dragged several cars away from the incident. Afterwards, McDowell took aim at Hill for his role in the crash. He said: 'He turned me for sure. I mean, there is no way he was gonna get alongside me. 'I got around him cleanly on those restarts, and there at the end, like I said, I'll have to get a better view of it. But to me, he wasn't alongside me. Just got to my rear bumper, turned me sideways. 'I'm not talking like he intentionally hooked me. He doesn't need a penalty for that. Just, there was no way he was gonna finish the pass there, and he just made a decision not to lift and to turn me'. Hill swiftly responded. Explaining his perspective of the crash, he said: 'Just two guys going for it. Nothing malicious, as much as everybody wants to sit there and try to make it more than it is. It was just two guys racing it out. 'I was trying to get by the 88 [Connor Zilisch] as quick as I could because the 88 was driving away from us and thought that we could maybe have a shot at racing with him and racing for the win there. I had a massive run off the Carousel. I kind of thought I was trying to catch [McDowell] off guard and get to his left side. 'The grass was coming up in front of us. I had to get to the right. I was kind of hoping he was going to move to the right and kind of give me some room, and it just didn't happen. 'But if everyone wants to blame me for it, I'll take the blame for it. I mean, I could have lifted and lived to fight another corner, and unfortunately, that's not what happened and it wrecked a lot of race cars. 'So didn't want to come back from what we had going on the last two weeks and have this happen, but heck, it's racing. I mean, things like this are going to happen.' The incident comes just one week after Hill returned from a suspension for causing a crash at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hill was served the temporary ban after colliding with Aric Almirola and sending his rival into the outside wall. The suspension meant that Hill lost all 21 playoff bonus points in a major hit to his title shot. Elsewhere on the day, NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch broke his collarbone in a post-race victory celebration that went horribly wrong. The promising 19-year-old driver won the NASCAR Xfinity Series Mission 200 in Watkins Glen, New York on Saturday, surviving 82 laps against 37 other cars without injuring himself. Things turned far more dangerous for Zilisch in victory lane afterwards as the North Carolina native struggled to extract himself from his No. 88 Chevrolet. As he attempted to hoist himself onto the roof of the car while holding a drink sponsor's can, Zilisch slipped. Although he nearly caught himself, Zilisch's foot was still stuck inside his driver's side window, preventing a clean escape. Instead, Zilisch came crashing down to the pavement, where he lay motionless as horrified onlookers slowly moved in to check on him.

NASCAR Fans Praying For Connor Zilisch After 'Terrifying' Fall On Saturday

NASCAR Fans Praying For Connor Zilisch After 'Terrifying' Fall On Saturday originally appeared on The Spun. Saturday at Watkins Glen was a bittersweet moment for JR Motorsports' Connor Zilisch. Moments after entering victory lane following his thrilling win in New York, things took a terrifying turn when he fell off his car while celebrating and landed hard on his head and neck area. The loud celebrations at the Mission 200 turned dead silent as medical professionals rushed over to Zilisch to help him. It appeared that Zilisch slipped on a safety netting draped over his window but as he fell it got caught and he was unable to brace himself, hitting the ground with all of his weight. NASCAR reporters on the scene filmed Zilisch being loaded into an ambulance. Thankfully, he appeared to have movement in his extremities and was able to sit up on his own power. "#NASCAR … Xfinity winner Connor Zilisch is loaded into an ambulance to go to the care center after falling in victory lane. He sat up in the ambulance," NBC Sports' Dustin Long reported. Thoughts and Prayers NASCAR fans quickly started sending Zilisch all of the best as he gets treated for any potential injuries: "That's literally the worst way to fall too holy (expletive). The way his leg got caught in the window and flipped him upside down head-first was just brutal man, and it didn't look like his leg bent right either," one stunned user replied. "Hopefully he's okay," wrote another. "(Praying) hope he's ok after that I've never seen anything like that before," a third wrote. "You can tell he almost lost his footing a few seconds prior because of the window net sliding. Drivers please start tucking your window nets inside of the car, letting them hang out the window like this is a genuine safety hazard. Hope Connor's okay, what a brutal fall..." "Terrifying. Always worried if anyone would ever slip up on the window netting in a celebration… and this is worst case scenario. Hope @ConnorZilisch isn't too badly hurt from this. He is a super talent." NASCAR and JR Motorsports have released statements making it clear that he is awake and alert, but he is still undergoing testing at a local hospital as an added precaution. "UPDATE: ConnorZilisch has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation following today's Xfinity Series race. He is awake and alert," NASCAR posted on X a short while ago. "As stated in the media center by NASCAR, ConnorZilisch is awake and alert and being transported to a local hospital for further evaluations," JR Motorsports also posted on X. Momentum stopped? Zilisch had been on an absolute tear in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season. Since late May he has enjoyed 11 straight top-five finishes, winning five of those races in the process. It's still a dead-heat for the top of the table though. He's been tied with JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier, but today's results should see him move ahead as the Xfinity Series playoffs approach. Fortunately, every indication right now indicates that the worst possible outcomes are not going to be the case. Being mobile and alert are the two main things he's already achieved. We wish Zilisch all the best as he recovers.
