NDTV4 days ago
New Delhi:
Shots were fired at comedian Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada's Surrey for a second time this month.
Two gangs - Gurpreet Singh alias Goldy Dhillon, and Lawrence Bishnoi - in posts on social media claimed responsibility for the attack.
At least 25 gunshots were heard in the purported video of the attack that surfaced on social media.
A voice was also heard saying in the video, amid the crack of the gunshots, "... We had called the target, but he didn't hear the ring, so we had to take action. If he still doesn't hear the ring, the next action will be taken soon in Mumbai."
The Mumbai Police and other security agencies are looking into the matter, sources said.
The first attack at the comedian's newly opened Kap's Cafe happened on July 10, when some employees were still inside. No one was injured in the firing. At least 10 bullet holes were found in a window at the cafe, while another window pane was shattered.
Kaps Cafe has said they will stand "firm" against violence to keep the place a symbol of "warmth and community" for its visitors.
The local police said they were aware of reports in the Indian media that claimed a Khalistani separatist took responsibility for the July 10 shooting.

Music composer Dony Hazarika, known for his contributions to Assamese music, Hindi television, and Bollywood projects, is mourning the loss of his mother after a tragic road accident in Mumbai. His 77-year-old mother, Sultana Kishore Ahmed Hazarika, died on Sunday when the Uber vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a stationary crane. The collision, which occurred between Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk and the JVLR signal, also injured the family's caretaker and left the composer shaken. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, booking both the Uber driver and the crane operator for negligence. According to Vikhroli police, the incident occurred between Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk and the JVLR signal when Hazarika was travelling from his Goregaon studio to Thane with his mother and their caretaker, Kaderun Nisa. Police said the Uber driver crashed into a crane that had been parked without any signal or parking lights. 'The Uber hit the crane from behind, injuring everyone inside the cab. Sultana's injuries were severe, and she was unable to speak after the accident," a police official stated. Bystanders assisted in rushing Sultana to Fortis Hospital in Mulund, where doctors declared her dead before admission. The caretaker also sustained injuries in the collision. Legal action Vikhroli police have filed a case against the Uber driver under sections 106(1), 125(a), 125(b), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for negligent driving. The crane operator has also been booked. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Anushka Sharma Texted R Madhavan After He Shared AI Clip Of Cristiano Ronaldo Praising Virat Kohli

R Madhavan admits he was fooled by a deepfake video of Cristiano Ronaldo praising Virat Kohli. Anushka Sharma had to step in. Even celebrities aren't safe from today's AI deepfake videos. Actor R Madhavan recently shared how he was tricked by a rather convincing fake video showing football star Cristiano Ronaldo praising Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. So real was the clip that Madhavan shared it proudly — only to be corrected by Virat Kohli's wife, actor Anushka Sharma, who warned him it was AI-generated. In a chat with Zee TV, Madhavan recalled, 'Yeah, in fact, one of the Reels that I saw had somebody praising Virat Kohli to high heavens. In fact, I think it was Ronaldo…how much he enjoyed watching Kohli bat and how much of a legend he thought he was. And I proudly forwarded that, I put it on Instagram and then I got a message from Anushka saying bhai, it's a fraud, it's AI." He admitted it was embarrassing but acknowledged it as a valuable lesson on verifying what we share online. 'It's really embarrassing, like, oh! So even somebody like me who is pretty aware was completely taken away. And then, when she told me the flaws, I realised, arey haan, yeh to bada gadbad hain (yes, this is an issue). So one has to be very careful that whatever you're forwarding is very credible." On the work front, Madhavan was recently seen in Aap Jaisa Koi with Fatima Sana Shaikh and in Test alongside Nayanthara and Siddharth. His latest film, Hisaab Barabar, directed by Ashwni Dhir, premiered at the 55th International Film Festival of India in November 2024. The film follows a railway ticket checker exposing corruption through suspicious bank transactions. Anushka Sharma's much-anticipated film Chakda Xpress, a biopic on cricketer Jhulan Goswami, has reportedly been shelved, disappointing both fans and the cast. Co-star Renuka Shahane shared her sadness over the news, applauding Anushka's commitment to the role and the film's importance in highlighting women's sports. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is in the UK, preparing for a comeback to One Day International (ODI) cricket. Having retired from Test cricket in May 2025, Kohli has restarted training in London as he readies himself for India's upcoming ODI series against Australia this October.
