Claressa Shields retained her undisputed heavyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Lani Daniels in Detroit, Michigan. The American, 30, was levels above New Zealander Daniels in a largely one-sided contest, held in front of a reported 15,000 fans at the Little Caesars Arena. Daniels offered little attacking intent early on, staying on the back foot and largely evading Shields. "I thought she wanted to fight, but she didn't really engage until the last three rounds," Shields told broadcaster DAZN. "She was very tough and tricky toward the end, but I know I won every round." Could shock bout with Laila Ali be next? A two-time Olympic gold medallist, Shields became a five-weight world champion earlier this year when she moved up to heavyweight and unified the division by defeating Danielle Perkins. She is a three-weight undisputed champion, having previously held all four belts at middleweight and light-middleweight. Claressa Shields retained her undisputed women's heavyweight championship with a commanding unanimous decision over Lani Daniels on Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The judges scored the bout 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91 in favor of Shields, who improved to 17-0 (3 KOs). It marked the third straight main event appearance in Detroit for the 30-year-old Flint native and two-time Olympic gold medalist, who remains the only boxer in the four-belt era to become an undisputed champion in three different weight classes. DETROIT (AP) — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled twice and scored a pair of runs as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the slumping Detroit Tigers 6-2 Friday night. The American League-leading Blue Jays are 7-1 since the All-Star break, while the Tigers have lost five straight and 11 of 12. José Berríos (7-4) picked up the win, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. Keider Montero (4-3) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in four-plus innings. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second when Wenceel Pérez singled, stole second and scored on Dillon Dingler's double. Addison Barger's RBI double made it 1-1 in the fourth and he scored with two outs on a throwing error by Javier Báez. The Blue Jays then took control with a four-run fifth. Nathan Lukes and George Springer started the inning with singles, and Guerrero hit an RBI double. Bo Bichette's two-run double made it 5-1 and Alejandro Kirk's single off reliever Tyler Holton gave Toronto a five-run lead.
