Man Utd saw two bids rejected for the Cameroon attacker, the second of which was worth more than £60million.
But Brentford held firm on their demands to get £65m in a sale.
And their hardline stance has paid off with the club finally reaching an agreement.
Man Utd will pay £65m across four instalments, while a further £6m could be added in bonuses down the line.

Mbeumo gave the cold shoulder to the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle to prioritise a move to Old Trafford, despite those clubs being able to promise Champions League football.
THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..

Fernandes slams 'lazy' Man Utd team-mates and demands more signings

Bruno Fernandes slammed Manchester United for being "lazy" following their final pre-season tour fixture and demanded the club bring in fresh signings before the new campaign kicks off. United managed a 2-2 stalemate with Everton at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium to clinch the Premier League Summer Series, having previously beaten West Ham and Bournemouth. Fernandes, who played the full 90 minutes, opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Ruben Amorim's side let their lead slip twice, sparking a scathing reaction from the skipper. "It's improving, but it's not where we want it to be," said Fernandes. "It's a game of football, there's always passion there. Whatever happens, happens. There was nothing spicy there, it's normal, it is part of the game. "It's been positive [the US tour] and it's good to create a bond with the players. We looked a bit lazy today and we need to change that. I don't want to have a dig at anyone, but I think the club is doing the best they can in terms of all the financial situations they talk about. "I don't know about it, I'm not involved in that. But obviously it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here. We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up. I think that's what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.", reports the Express. United finished the previous campaign in a dire 15th position, representing their poorest showing in half a century, with Fernandes admitting that a transformation in approach and mindset was essential following such a catastrophic season. "At this football club you can't do anything wrong on the pitch and off the pitch, because it's too big worldwide and you get punished by that. "You get the attention of the media and your fans and you have to be aware of that. "At this club the culture here was winning and we need to bring that back. Not only the winning mentality that we need, and I think that's always been there, but obviously if you don't win you don't show it. "The club is trying to improve other things, the facilities have improved, we tried to improve the team, the staff, a lot of things. A lot of people have suffered from this, a lot of people who had been working at the club for many, many years had to go. "The fans are paying more for tickets and we appreciate all the effort they put in for us so now it's up to us to pay it back on the pitch." Amorim welcomed Fernandes' honest observations, suggesting that his skipper understands the monumental task ahead for United to resume challenging for major silverware. "I'm happy for the players to have that feeling," Amorim stated. "It's saying that they understand the situation. So it's a good feeling. It's understanding that in this club, everything is ups and downs. We understand that, but I prefer that feeling [the ups] than the other side."

Shelbourne may face Linfield rematch in European decider

Shelbourne could be on track for a rematch with Linfield for a place in the league stage of the UEFA Conference League. The draws for the play-off rounds of the Europa and Conference League were held today in Nyon. Should Shelbourne manage to overcome Rijeka in the third round of the Europa League, they would face the winner of Greek side PAOK and Austrian outfit Wolfsberger in the Europa League play-off round. The first leg of the tie with Rijeka is on Wednesday. However if Shels were to lose, they would drop to the Conference League and take on the winner of the third-round tie between Linfield and Faroe Islands outfit Víkingur. Joey O'Brien's side defeated Linfield in the first round of Champions League qualifying, winning 1-0 in Tolka Park before a 1-1 draw in Belfast. Shamrock Rovers may also face Northern Irish opposition in the play-off round in Larne, but the most likely opponent is Portuguese side Santa Clara. The Hoops are in the third round of the Conference League with a tie against Kosovans FC Ballkani starting on the Thursday. The winner of that tie will take on the winner of Larne v Santa Clara. St Patrick's Athletic also learned their potential play-off opponent. If the Saints overcome Turkish giants Besiktas, they will meet the winner of FC Lausanne-Sport (Switzerland) and FC Astana (Kazakhstan) Celtic have been drawn against Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan or Slovakian side SK Slovan Bratislava in their Champions League play-off tie. Brendan Rodgers' side reached the knockout round play-off stage of the competition last season from the 36-team league phase, where they lost 3-2 on aggregate to German giants Bayern Munich. Rangers will take on Austrian side Salzburg or Club Brugge of Belgium in the play-off round if they get through their third-round qualifier against Viktoria Plzen.
