Blue Birds secure victory against Jomo Cosmos in regional league
Read more: Blue Birds draw again in their battle to the top eight
The Blue Birds asserted their dominance early, with their player, Mpho Ngobeni, breaking the deadlock in the first half, capitalising on a well-worked opportunity to give the Blue Birds the lead. Despite pressure from Jomo Cosmos in the second half, the Blue Birds held firm, denying their opponents the opportunity to score.
Coach Malvin Khumalo praised his team's performance and consistency, referencing their previous 1–0 win over Panorama Ladies on August 9. 'Today, we kept a clean sheet, getting a 1–0 win. It shows consistency, in terms of what we are trying to achieve.'
He acknowledged missed opportunities in front of the goalpost but remained optimistic about the team's growth. 'We are still at the development stage with this team. They will get it right.'
Khumalo highlighted the need for composure in the final third, emphasising that the team must learn to convert chances. However, he lauded his defensive structure, which has been a cornerstone of their campaign. 'Defensively, we have been solid the entire season. We haven't conceded a lot of goals.'
He said that players deployed in defensive midfield roles were naturally defenders. 'One is a left back, so the idea to defend is there.'
On the other side, Jomo Cosmos coach Bricks Nxokoane reflected on a performance riddled with errors. 'I think we gave them a soft goal. Secondly, we don't have that fighting spirit. In the second half, we tried to create chances but couldn't convert. In the midfield, we were losing balls like nobody's business.'
As the league progresses, Khumalo said the Blue Birds will need to work on their composure, to help players covert chances into goals, while Jomo Cosmos will look to regroup and address their midfield vulnerabilities.

Analyst sends a warning to Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs supporters are smiling again. Two wins from two, first a 2-0 win over Stellenbosch, then a 1-0 grind past Polokwane City. The results duly awakened the Amakhosi swagger back to Naturena. But while the vibe is good, former Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United skipper Bongani Khumalo has sent out a reality check. Speaking on SuperSportTV's ExtraTime , Khumalo admitted Kaizer Chiefs are showing signs of a team that can compete, but warned that the foundations are still fragile. Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Second striker and new winger 'It is very good (Kaizer Chiefs' recent form), but it is important for the players to keep their feet on the ground,' Khumalo said. Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi at the FNB Stadium after facing Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership. Image: The Citizen 'It is a very long season; it is not a cup competition. So as much as there is joy and there is ease in how they have started, there is still a lot of work to be done. The performance against Stellenbosch was not a great performance, but it was a wonderful result. Confirmed: Kaizer Chiefs will sign another striker 'This time [against Polokwane City], the first half was not great, the second half was a lot better. 'So there are signs that something is brewing, so it is important that they remain calm and most importantly, stick together and see it through,' the former Bafana star added. Next is Richards Bay's visit to the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night. The Natal Rich Boyz are still looking for their first point after losing 2-1 and 1-0 to Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows, respectively. Is Springboks' Rugby Championship title defence already over?
Before the opening round of the Rugby Championship, the Springboks would have been widely expected to secure a bonus-point victory over the Wallabies at Ellis Park to start their title defence with momentum and confidence. Instead, the Springboks are reeling from a shock defeat, which also saw them fail to even collect a losing bonus-point. By contrast, the All Blacks secured a full five log points with a big win in Argentina. The Springboks now simply have to bounce back in their 'rematch' against Australia this weekend, but even if they can achieve this, they will then need to navigate extremely challenging fixtures against arch-rivals New Zealand. Besides the improvements the All Blacks have made over the last year, they will also be excited by the prospect of facing the Springboks at their home fortresses in Auckland and Wellington. From there, the Springboks will welcome Argentina to Durban before finishing the tournament against the same opposition in London, where this neutral venue could add an air of unpredictability to proceedings. All in all, it looks set to be extremely difficult for the Springboks to get their Rugby Championship campaign back on track, with even one more defeat almost certain to bring an end to any hope of a title defence. 'We still want to win the Rugby Championship,' prop Ox Nche insisted. 'Next weekend is a must-win Test (against Australia in Cape Town), and we have to get as many points as we can.' REMINDER OF THE REMAINING SCHEDULE FOR 2025: 23 August: vs Australia, Cape Town. Kick off: 17:10 . . 6 September: vs New Zealand, Auckland. Orlando Pirates news: Sebelebele's rise and Mashiloane's stuggles
Orlando Pirates' new signings have been hit and misses so far this season. The likes of Sipho Mbule, Oswin Appollis and Kamogelo Sebelebe have impressed so far, while the likes of Tshepo Mashiloane have struggled. In the four matches Pirates played, they have won once this season. Against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final first leg, Sebelebele scored a late goal to secure a draw. 'It was not an easy game, and it was my first time starting,' The Bucs attacker told OP TV. 'So, it wasn't easy, but I pushed. After they [Sundowns] scored, I still didn't give up. I had a feeling we would score and win the game. 'Unfortunately, we didn't win this game, but we will try and push so that we can win the second leg. 'And we couldn't afford to lose this game because it would've meant that we lose two games in succession. 'So, we have to come back and win. This is Orlando Pirates. 'The Orlando Pirates that people know has to make a comeback.' Former TS Galaxy head coach Dan 'Dance' Malesela has weight in on Mashiloane's struggles at Pirates. 'When you embark on a new journey, people will always question everything you do,' Malesela tells KickOff. 'Players improve with game time, and sometimes we are too quick to criticize them without giving them a chance. 'I've said it before: Tshepo's only challenge at Pirates will be dealing with crosses. It's an issue he faced here with us, too. He needs to improve his reading and anticipation of crosses. Other than that, he is a fine player,' he added. 'People should not rush to judge; they need to give others a chance. No one starts a new job knowing everything about the company. We all need time to adapt. 'I also encourage the senior players at Pirates to help guide him on how things are done during games at the club. 'The good news is that struggling to deal with crosses is a challenge that can be trained and coached.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
